Flash mags=future?
« on: August 21, 2012, 12:14:36 PM »
So I found out about these new flash mags about a month or 2 ago. They seem like a great idea, and now I found out that the 2 available before has now turned into 5, including AK mags. I'm wondering if any of you have a flash mag and if so, how is it? Might they be the future of high caps?

Discuss.

flash mags are hicap mags but instead of using a normal winding wheel at the base of the mag there is a trap door you open it and there is a string that self retracts you pull it a few times and you can go through an entire highcap without having to wind it again

Seems kinda cool. I've never liked Hi Caps to begin with though, I don't find them realistic enough, I'd much rather go through two or three Mid-Caps then use a Hi-Cap. I actually run five mids and one hi as a back up.

But back on the Flash Mag subject. I suppose for those people who actually use Hi's it could be beneficial, but it would take some time for them to become the new 'standard' hi cap.

Flash mags seems to be for lazy people.
1. just wind your hicap till it double clicks and you just did what a flash mag does, only it takes a little longer.
2. some of those hicaps with the winding tool thingy on the side pretty much perform the same thing as a flash mag just a bit less complex.

I have owned a bravo flash mag and you have to be careful on all flash mags not to overwind or you break them.

Its an interesting take on the whole hicap thing but in my opinion there not all that worth while. Although I will admit the bravo flash mags had a nice steel shell.

That's good to know. I always assumed overwinding a regular hi cap would mess it up.

Most mil sim games will not allow them or any other high caps. I know we do not at our games, nor does Team Phantom at theirs IIRC. Nor does lion claws. They are discouraged from use at other many other hosts games too.

Ok, for all the mil-sim fanatics, I'm aware that high caps are unrealistic. Thing is, I don't care. If I wanted to know about real caps, I wouldn't have made a topic about flash mags. Not bashing on mil-sim, just don't think this is the place to talk about it.

Me and my group don't play at those kind of places. We stay in our town and go to the Pit.

I'll stick to my regular winding hi-caps. I've had one particular M4 hi-cap for 8 years and it still works without issues.

I've seen other players break flash mags by over-winding or pulling the string out.

Its just another fancy magazine. it just has more parts to break.
brad on my team has bought all 3 brands, theres lonex, Echo1 and this other odd Brand thats says DC or some crap on the bottom.

one out of all of his brands have broken. same spot right where the spring attaches to the winding wheel. some within a day of owning.

my personal opinion?
garbage, for lazy people that think there cool because they can pull a string that hangs out of there magazine, to wind it.

its like putting a string on a Corvette's dash board to open the gas door, when you pull it.
because your too lazy to use the key on your key ring. and then telling your buddys your corvette is faster than theres because of that

i have tested and i can  prove this any day. they feed at the exact same rate as a standard high cap. they will max at about 80-85 bbps and the only way to fix that is to run a .2 bb because there lighter, and can actually feed faster because of that.

hater?? no. i like things that work reliably

you can not hurt a high cap by "overwinding" that loud click that you hear at the end of the wind, is the spring getting smaller and slipping to the next latch. it is a safegard that is built into the design.
never underestimate the things you dont know.

That's not to say that those people don't use high caps either, but mid cap mags are the de facto standard for the more legitimate, large scale games that the AA regs/vets go to. There's a reason for them using it, and its not to create the impression that mil-sim players are better than speedballers.
