AEG's / UTG/KART M14
« on: August 31, 2007, 07:19:25 PM »
I know that this is a fairly cheap gun, So its not like I am expecting CA/TM quality... With that being said I have a few questions about the gun that I have not been able to get a strait answer to online...so I am asking anyone here who has owned the gun at some point.

1: Are the mags truly TM compatible, I have read some reviews that say that the TM Standards and TM compatible midcaps wont feed through the gun. (Other reviews state that they feed fine)

2: Will the gun accept a tightbore barrel? (A few reviews are stating that the inner diameter of the outer barrel is too small for a tightbore barrel)

3: Any other quirks that I should know about.

I don't intend for this gun to receive alot of use, I have other guns for that...this is going to be more of a DMR project...I just want to know at this point if it will even be feasible to do anything to it.

Reviews / CA XM177 E2 Mini Review:
« on: July 22, 2007, 02:49:23 PM »
I recently purchased this gun with the intent of converting it into a full metal M733. Though I was successful in completing this task, there were some oddities with The XM177 that made the task just a little more difficult.

This "mini review" is meant to address these oddities as well as some other questions that I was wondering about (and couldn't find a good answer to online). As I currently do not have access to a chronograph, I will not be including performance stats at this time (though I will try to add them if I get the chance.)

Overall appearance/Build Quality

Upon receiving the package, the first thing that surprised me was the box itself. Not what was on it (I honestly don't think 99% of airsofters care about what the box looks like) but rather the size of it. The box is the same size as the box for my full length M15A4 rifle.

The gun is of the same quality construction as the other rifles in the CA M15 line, with a full metal receiver and the fiber reinforced polymer forearm grip and stock. The receiver is emblazoned with the same trademarks as the rest of the ArmaLite line, however, below the ArmaLite logo the receiver is engraved with "CARBINE XM177 E2" and below that "M15A1" The serial numbers on these rifles are very low, with mine being 180.

The receiver is painted a medium grey color instead of the standard black on most CA ArmaLites. The upper has a fixed carry handle with the A1 type rear sight (adjustable for windage only). Similar to the rest of the ArmaLite line, The XM177 has 2 separate sighting apertures to choose from, however for some strange reason they are both the same size (the normally smaller of the two apertures). The upper has a forward assist knob that is more of a triangular shape as opposed to the round one found on later models. The upper does not have a case deflector. Finally, the ejection port door has a semi-gloss black finish.

The lower is more or less like the rest of the ArmaLite line, however, the bolt release rattles more than it does on my A4 rifle. Also the grip is the old A1 style, without the bump between your middle and ring fingers.

The adjustable stock has 5 positions and is smaller than the one found on the rest of the CA carbines. It is made of similar material and operates in the same fashion.

Oddities/differences from other CA ArmaLites

Apart from those already mentioned, there are a few other differences to be found in the XM177. These include:

1: The XM177 has a mock gas return tube running from the front sight to the receiver.

2: CA elected to glue on the flash/sound moderator instead of using a set screw like the other rifles.

3: The inner barrel on the XM177 goes into the flash/sound moderator, necessitating a new inner barrel if you wish to use a different flash hider.

4: For some reason, aftermarket magazines don't feed as well in the XM177 as in the rest of the ArmaLite line. (this can be fixed with some tape in the back of the magwell, however the mags won't drop free when the mag release is depressed)

5: MOST IMPORTANTLY the forearm on the XM177 has a significantly smaller inner diameter than other ArmaLites. This means that standard M4 batteries will NOT fit in the XM177...special batteries like the ones in the link below are required.

AEG's / CA Battery Installation
« on: July 16, 2007, 07:15:00 PM »
Is there some sort of trick to getting batteries to fit into the forearm of the CA ArmaLites? I am having a hell of a time getting the foregrip closed again around the battery.

AEG's / Quality M733 AEG
« on: June 27, 2007, 12:47:09 PM »
I have been trying to figure out where to get a high quality M733. I want something with a metal body, but don't want to spend the money for a TM AND a new body/barrel.

The only option I have found so far is the one that WGC builds. I was wondering if anybody has any experience with WGC guns. Also I was wondering if there really is any risk of the gun getting seized if I choose  to not have them dremel the thing to pieces?

Also I was wondering what the difference is between the M733 and the XM177 that CA makes? If it is just the flash-hider I may just decide to buy that and a A1 flash-hider.

Troubleshooting / CA M15A4 Inner barrel
« on: June 26, 2007, 12:14:33 PM »
Hey quick question, How do I get the inner barrel out of the hopup unit on a CA m15a4?  I already have the Inner barrel/hopup assembly out of the gun... I just need to know, does the inner barrel just slide out of the hopup? If so, how do you get the bucking out to put it on the new barrel?

Thanks.

Real Firearms / Walther P99 .40SW and concealed carry?
« on: June 25, 2007, 11:25:04 PM »
Hey I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with the Walther P99?

I have been looking at handguns for a little while, trying to decide what I want to get myself for a concealed carry firearm.

I would like to start carrying soon so that I am used to it in a few years when I qualify as an armed crewmember (airline pilot).

For years I wanted a 1911, but after much thought I decided that I wanted a double action for carry purposes. At this point the idea of having one in the pipe and the hammer back seems like a dangerous one.

So anyway, to make a long story short I decided that I liked the feel of the P99. I also was led to believe by a few LEOs back home that it is best to carry something in .40SW or .45ACP.

So my questions to all of you...

1: Experience with the P99 (especially in the .40)
2: Any other handguns you would recommend for a first concealed carry?

Thanks for all of your help.

General Airsoft Discussion / Echo 1 lowers MAP price on its guns...
« on: June 22, 2007, 07:06:59 PM »
I realize most of you don't like Echo 1 guns, but here is an interesting bit of news I got in the E-mail today. Echo 1 has lowered the MAP price of it's guns.

It looks like dealers are having a hard time turning the new product line. I know that I had a hard time turning some of them.

The change is most noticible in the Echo 1 M16DMR... the origonal MAP price for the gun was $180, now it is down to $160. This means that all of the eBay retailers are now supposed to sell the guns with a $160 Buy It Now.

I think this means that consumers are starting to realize that by buying an Echo 1 gun, they are really buying a JG gun and paying somebody to put it in a blue and black box as opposed to a red and black one.

Accessories & Gear / Battery for CA M15A4 question.
« on: June 19, 2007, 07:25:42 PM »
Hey, I just want to make sure I don't screw up and get a battery that's too big for my CA M15A4 (It's the full size M16A4 variant)...

Will this work?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1

Any other recommendations would be appreciated, I am looking for something in more or less that price range, and the only upgrade I am going to have in the gun (for the foreseeable future at least) is a tightbore, so I'm pretty sure 9.6 will be sufficient.

Thanks...I know this is kind of a newbie question.[/url]
