NATO, Europe and the Middle East
« on: April 02, 2011, 03:53:21 AM »
If Europe sets up a no fly zone without NATO, UN or American backing what does this mean? It seems that Europe wants to show a more aggressive stance on the middle east which is different from its old ally the USA. It appears that the NATO alliance is moving in different directions over the middle east. The UK and France are two out of four countries in the World with a blue-water navy, the other two being the USA and Russia. Is this the arrival of a new power hungry Europe, a europe that will start to use military force against other nations against the wishes of its old allies? Or is it something else, maybe worries about immigration? your thoughts please.

Not exactly the best introduction to this forum. I split this from where you posted it because it did not fit there and was necro-posting with comments unrelated to the conversation.

What no-fly zone are you talking about? Because the one in Libya is mostly enforced by the US and backed by a UN mandate to do so. If we had an unfriendly nation sitting 400mi away(from Tripoli to the tip of Italy) we sure as heck would take an interest in toppling their regime (*cough*Cuba*cough*). Honestly I am surprised that Europe has decided to get itself involved after the amount of whining it does over Iraq and Afghanistan. Either way the mission in that country is far from over. We will see what happens when Yemen, South Sudan, Zimbabwe and others come asking for help.

Hey bud, just go to Yahoo home page and they will catch you up on everthing that has been going on. Like the guys stated above the NFZ is already in place. The french had 20 aircraft in the air for the first strike just a few minutes after the UN agreed on a NFZ. That was a few weeks ago...
