Mostly what I want to see is what types of durable 1911 style GBBs are available, as well as a Glock 34/35 type gun for a second purchase. I was interested in having these for days when I can't shoot a regular 1911 or Glock. On my days off my wife works, so having a GBB gun to shoot in the garage or backyard would be nice. I want guns that will feel the same as my real firearms.
I had seen a USPSA shooter using a WE Tech gun, but I've read both good and bad about them. If they are decent as long as they are well maintained, I would buy one, but I don't want to buy cheap and have a gun that doesn't last. I'm fairly experienced working on regular firearms, so I'm happy to learn about GBB guns. With regards to durability, I'll be shooting it a couple times a week.
So, these are my concerns:
-Are the WE Tech guns durable if well lubed and maintained?
-Is there a local shop in Phoenix or the west valley that has supplies (gas, parts, etc)?
-How loud are these things (as loud as a surpressed .223 for instance)?
As far as a reliable manufacturer... that depends on your care of them. These tend to be higher maintenance than any other gun I've owned (GBB vs NBB, AEG, Spring). Take care of your seals, don't store your mags empty, etc., and you'll be good. I've heard many good things about Maruzen (typically producing 8mm guns and more film prop types, but good quality overall), Tokyo Marui, KSC/KWA, KJW, and WE.
Now, your questions shortened, with shortened answer
Q: Are WE's durable if well lubed/maintained?
A: Yes, any gun is (from my experience). WE's tend to be pretty picky about having a cold magazine though, as well as are best run with red gas due to having a heavier slide (mainly on the larger platforms such as the .45 ACP Silver Dragon).
Q: Local shop in the west side?
A: None that I know of that are as reliable as Ron at Gearbox. Ron is my only "go-to" guy, or any of his guys at the shop.
Q: How loud are they?
A: Loud enough to get some attention while shooting it in your front yard hahaha. I get some looks from time to time, but no one ever questions since these things run rampant in my neighborhood. Also, They seem to be as loud as your standard AEG (decibel wise). I wouldn't say they're loud, and I wouldn't say they quiet like a NBB. Rack the slide and let it fly forward, then imagine about ten BB guns (regular, not airsoft) going off at that same moment. Kinda sounds like that to me haha. It's the best comparison I can give without doing some experimenting
Otherwise, hope that helps a bit. Also, welcome to A.A.!
