I guess the big question is, do you have a metal CA gun or a Plastic TM one.

Some people hunt animals with bullets, We hunt people with plastic.

Hacksaw and vice. I wanted mine to look semi-crappy, so I just cut it. I'm sure you could cut and file it nicely for a good look if you wanted that.

Hacksaw and Vise (to-may-to, to-mah-to).

I cut mine, a TM plastic, with fantasic results.

Matt did the same to his metal CA unit, and it looked just as good. He didn't have a vise, IIRC.

No, I meant vice. You get some prostitutes to hold the carry handle and you cut it with the hacksaw. If you hurt em, thats extra. [:P]

Why not just buy a rear sight? I had a brand new DPMS one I was selling for $40 and no one seemed interested for a while (sold now, of course). You can buy new ones for ~$50 on gun boards. If you want to be true to life, spend the $95 and get an ARMS#40.

Having one cut is also true to life, Paco. It's been done for awhile, and if he's got the sight, why not utilize it?

Busta, just use a hacksaw. Then clean it up with a file and sandpaper when you're done. You might want to touch-up the silver edge with some black paint also.

You can also get the Flip Up sights that do the same thing, and if you are going to mount a scope it works better because you can put down and out of the way if you just want to look through the scope, I got one for mine for $20 from Ron. I dont think he has any more though, this is his last weekend open.

Listen fellas, he didn't ask about what type of iron sights are best.

He simply asked HOW to chop it. He has the answers he needs.

A friend of mine did that to his gun. It looked great before he filed it. Then he filed it and it didnt turn out even. He had to file it way more than he wanted and it turned out bad. He bought a new one and tried it again. What he did was use a lighter type of file and it took him a while but it turned out ace! Good luck. Give us some pics when you get done with it.

If you don't got the tools you need Andy, I got some left over blades and saws from my Metals class you can use.

He must be all thumbs! It took my about 3.5 minutes from start to beautiful finish for my TM unit. Matt said he spent about 10 on it (as I recall), since it was metal.

It's one of the easiest modifications you can do to an AEG.

Chop it up!
« Reply #12 on: June 11, 2004, 12:30:15 AM »
Ok I was wondering who here has chopped off their carrying handle to make just a rear site. Ive seen it done on a few peoples guns and wondered what tools they used and how they did it. I want to do it to my M15's carry handle.
