This will not go away, guys. Nothing has ever been repealed or otherwise improved during my lifetime and this won't be different. Too many people have made their careers based upon this issue. Even if it sunsets without a stya or other action, don't go digging up your pre ban stocks out of storage for a while afterwards. Don't forget that even though it's illegal to do it, ex post facto legislation has been passed before, was by Clinton, and can be again here. Having a rifle "certified" as legal during a few week reprive will not make it OK to own it in that configuration should they amend the law.
I hate this as much as anyone, and I am not a pessimist by nature, but I gave up on the brains of this country a long time ago. There are some good people in office, but most are sheep, and they do what they're told to do but the loudest voices. We conservatives like to believe that the country is still largely sane, but ever poll and ever major election of the past few years has been nearly cleanly split between conservative values and filth. I do not hold any hope for us gun owners and I do think it will only get worse, regardless of any actions taken or not over these bills. Filthstein will not stop.

This is NOT a case of repealing ANYTHING. Nothing has to be repealed for the AWB to go away.

Yes, ex-post facto laws are illegal, which is EXACTLY why I will be taking pictures of them in the "AW" config and having it notarized that they are in that config when the AWB sunsets on September 14th.

Harley, if you want to take me up on that offer let me know ASAP - actually, to make it easier in light of other pending laws, maybe we should make the 'bet' for an AR-15 upper so no "evil assault weapons" have to trade hands (lol)! If the AWB is renewed before the 94 AWB expires in September, I give you one of my AR-15 uppers. If the AWB sunsets in Spetember as scheduled, you give me an AR-15 upper. Sound good? [:D]

Here's why it the AWB will die in September:

1 - S 1805's amendments are about killing immunity for the gun industry, NOT renewing the AWB - adding the AWB and "gun show loophole" amendments are the Dems way to get the immunity bill killed.

2 - Feinstein has admitted herself, that if the AWB reauthorization is not attached to some bill (like S 1805), that it won't have any chance at passing (by itself).

3 - The House and Senate have until July 26th to pass a renewal. If it's not done by then, it's dead. Why? Well, the Senate recesses on July 26th until it reconvenes on September 7th. One week is nowhere near enough time to pass a new AWB.

4 - Bush has called for a "clean bill" coming to his desk - referring to S 1805 - that is, one without any amendments. It's Tom DeLay's job to see to it that IF it progresses that far, it meets his requirements: no bill, or a clean bill. By stating that he wants a clean bill, he reserves the "right" to veto it without breaking any promises to "support the AWB". This has Feinstein/Boxer/Schumer, et all really peeved.

5 - Tom DeLay controls the House. He'll have S 1805 sit in committee and let it die there, or strip the amendments from it and vote on it again without the AWB (round and round we go, until time runs out and evil assault weapons are all over the streets).

6 - It's not a reelection year for Senators, but it is for Congressmen. They can't afford to vote "anit-gun" in an election year. The Senators don't mind since it will be forgotten by most come election time for them.

Just watching C-SPAN. Harley, you sure you still want to bet me on the AWB? Guess what?

The Senate didn't pass S1805! It was voted down! Final vote: 80-9 (wow!)

S1805 is now dead. Surprisingly, the Senate killed it which means that there won't be the immunity for the gun manufacturer's (for now anyway) and the AWB won't be renewed (again, for now).

If you still want to bet me, please, let me know. [:D]

My views are not tied to the ban sunsetting or not. Of course it will. What I refer to is life after the ban, which will not be roses and cream.

Am I the only one here who thinks that what happened is what the Libs WANTED to have happen? Doors left open for crippling lawsuits against manufacturers is just as good as a ban in my book.

Actually, I think just the opposite happened. The Dems wanted this to pass SO badly that they had Edwards and Kerry leave the campaigning on the BIGGEST CAMPAIGN DAY "Super Tuesday" just to vote on it. To have the door absolutely slammed in their faces must have them VERY, VERY pissed of about all this. Yay!

As usual I hope you're right, but this is exactly what those subtle little cornholios would do to get one step closer.

Breaking news! S 659/ S 1805 bills
« Reply #44 on: February 25, 2004, 09:04:05 AM »
Get ready to put adjustable stocks back on your AR-15's!

For those who haven't been following it, the Senate voted on cloture today (the 25th) for the S 659 bill (the gun industry/lawsuit bill). It PASSED (we needed at least 60 votes to invoke cloture, and it was invoked by 75 votes), which means that NO AMMENDMENTS can be added to S 659! This means that S 1805 nor any of the other "AWB" extensions or "gun show loophole" amendments can be tacked onto S 659 which was probably the ONLY way that a new AWB would be passed. This is a HUGE victory for RKBA and gun owners! I'm proud (and suprised) to say that both AZ senators (yes, even McCain who wanted to close the "gun show loophole") voted for cloture - amazing!

WooHoo!!![:D]
