I dont know much about lefty pistols, but you will most likely have to special order it, if the manufacturer of the gun you want does such a thing.

You have lots of choices in .40 and .45.  Likes, dislikes?  Do you like glock, or hate them?  Glock makes pistols in small sizes with big calibers.  I dont really know of anything else that is bigger than a 9mm, but still small enough for ccw.

Hope this helps.

Joey

P.S.  I just bought a sig p232 in .380 (9mm kurz).  Its designed for concealed carry, I love it.  I dont know if it can be had in a left handed model.  You should go to the Scottsdale gun club and talk to one of the guys there.  They will special order anything without hassle and know what is available.

Lots of handguns eject back and to the right, which for a right handed person is fine. I believe it has something to do with shooting from a semi-concealed position, to keep the casings from bouncing off the wall and back into you. For a left-hander, that has the casings flying right over your head (in the case of the desert eagle, I could "feel them" go over my head).
The Ruger I have ejects straight out to the right which is good for both righties and lefties.
Any new handgun I buy I want to do the same thing, eject out to the right instead of back right.
I don't need the gun to eject out to the left, just close to straight out right.

I like my SIG P220 (.45ACP).  It's small enough for CCW (a lot of people use one).  I also like my Walther P99 (.40SW)...  also a smaller gun.  Maybe a USPC .40SW?

Iam not going to suggest any one maker...it will just start a pissing match of who likes what.I think its all about personal preference. If it feels good in your hand then try it out.Go to one of the gun ranges that rent and shoot a few. Also, how much do you want to spend on it?The other question is how much do you plan on shooting it? every weekend or once a year? That can make a difference when it comes to the price of ammo for target practice. If your rich...I guess it don't matter.

If you plan to CCW, please don't buy something that you intend to shoot little and carry often. You need to be on top of things in regards to you firearm if you plan to use it to defend yourself. Besides that, go with what you think feels good. The only pistol I've shot that ejects to the left is a Walther P38 or P1 (same pistol, basically). But it's not real small or real modern in design. Although it's a hoot to shoot and fairly accurate. [:D]

Hey, Mister! I meet your criteria, so let's not get started! [:D] But really, it's true! I wouldn't feel comfortable around someone I knew who had a super-featherweight 1lb loaded gun that they carried all the time because they hardly knew it was there, but rarely shot because it blew their hand all to snot. If I were able to carry right now, I'd go with something that weighed a bit more, but I could put in more practice with it, and therefore be a safer CCW holder.

But then again, I'm just an innocent bystander who'll be in the line of fire when someone pulls that 1 pounder out and starts hammering away as fast as they can. [:(]

I know what it feels like to be left handed. We had to order my .22 rifle from Kali because it shot the shells out the bottem. I hate getting hit with hot shells.

I here you Shoot. I use an 870 for bird hunting, and only shoot with glasses of some kind on due to powder, etc. Bottom ejecting guns are nice, but most are expensive. Left ejecting guns are just silly expensive. I have a left handed 700 BDL (only way it came at the time) that I got for Christmas when I was 16. Was twice the price of a normal 700.
Most people don't think about the ejecting direction of a firearm till they get smacked with hot brass. Even worse if it falls down your shirt.

Looking into getting a new handgun
« Reply #10 on: June 01, 2004, 01:59:10 PM »
I am trying to keep an open mind about different handguns, so decided to ask here about what you all like and dislike.
I am thinking about a larger caliber than 9mm, and looking for a left-hand friendly handgun.
(Most handguns are designed to eject over the right hand shoulder of a right handed shooter. For a left-handed person, that is over their head and I hate that.)
I currently have a Ruger P89 but it is a bit big to attempt to carry concealed.
I plan on taking some pistol classes later in the fall and to also get a ccw permit, so want to start looking at different guns now.
