Tactical Airsoft & Milsim magazine and Depot 53 ( www.depot53.com )are proud to join the effort by co-sponsoring the Rally 'Round The Troops Raffle.  Sponsorship for the Raffle has grown to include national distributors of airsoft products, airsoft forums, and individual airsofters.  Companies like Team SD (ICS/TSD), SoftAir Direct (CyberGun), J-Sports USA (KWA), Spartan Imports (Classic Army) and BFX Imports (Excel BB's) have joined with manufacturers like JBU (Tactical Accessories) and SuperCell Development (ASC7 Claymore) to support the effort.

Airsoft forums around the country like Airsoft Arizona, Airsoft El Paso, Airsoft Core, Amplified Airsoft, AirSoft Retreat, and North Eastern AirSoft Group (NEASG) are also pitching in to help raise awareness, while retailers like The Wargame Room in Milwaukee and individual airsofters like Staff Sergeant Arnel Udani and other members of the U.S. Army Recruiting Station in Morgantown, West Virginia are contributing personally.

100% of every dollar contributed will be used to send phone cards to deployed units of the 82nd Airborne Division.  While there are many organizations that ask for help with a myriad of causes, few are more worthy than giving troops in harms way a chance to talk directly to their families back home.  Join us in giving a little to those who are sacrificing so much.  Enter today at http://www.depot53.com!

Informational Links / Support the troops!
« on: April 03, 2007, 07:21:30 PM »

From Michael Dzmura, one of our long-time sponsors and supporter of AirsoftArizona:

Quote
Last month I was contacted by Joe Mazur in North Carolina asking for our help with a fund raiser they were holding for members of the 82nd Airborne Division serving in Iraq.  Donations were going to be used to purchase International Phone Cards for the troops so they could stay in touch with their families back home.  Joe was involved because his son Jake, was currently serving with 1/504th Parachute Infantry Regiment in Baghdad.  Joe ask for a D-53 contribution because, prior to joining the Army, Jake was an avid airsofter and Depot 53 customer.

For our part we initially donated a modest $320 (enough to buy 2 - $10 Phone Cards for each member of Jake's Platoon), a Tokyo Marui SR-16 AEG as a raffle prize, and published an article in the News Section of our website, http://www.depot53.com/News/#2414 (feel free to use any material from the article).  As a result of Joe and Dixie Mazur's efforts, they sent almost $4,500 worth of phone cards in their first shipment.  To put it another way, they received enough contributions to buy cards for each member of 2nd Battalion's 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Platoons, as well as a platoon of support Engineers. They also sent cards to another platoon of the 82nd stationed in Afghanistan (by special request of a soldier's dad who had come to their fund raising dinner).  According to Joe the response has been overwhelming and donations are still coming in from all over the country.

Late last week, I learned from Joe that the 82nd's tour had been extended until early 2008.  As such we at D-53 intend to continue to contribute to the Mazur's Phone Card Drive until the unit returns from combat.  While there are many organizations that ask for donations for a myriad of causes, I can think of few more worthy than giving troops in harms way a chance to talk directly to their families back home while stationed in Iraq.  There is also a certain symmetry between this effort and the airsoft industry. Based on our sales history I'm confident many airsofters who buy Depot 53 products have joined the military, or are currently serving in the armed forces.

If Airsoft Arizona visitors would like to join us in giving a little to those who are sacrificing so much, it would mean a lot.  Contribution can be sent directly to:

D.A.V. - La Strada Phone Card Drive
2693 Memorial Highway
P.O. Box 356
Lake Lure, NC 28746

I will also be publishing a follow-up article on our website outlining the campaign results and thanking key contributors in our industry.  Let me know if you have any questions [or] need additional information...  Take care!

If you have a few dollars to spare, I strongly urge you to donate, and mention that you're from AirsoftArizona.  If you donate to the troops through other means, that's fine as well, the important thing is to do what you can to support our troops!

Airsoftshop.com is one of our loyal advertisers.  This site wouldn't still be here if it weren't for the support of our advertisers.  If you haven't ordered from Airsoftshop before, give them a try.  I have placed several orders with them in the past and never had a problem.  Eddie's a great person to deal with and he's not just someone running an airsoft shop:  he's an avid airsofter as well.  He even comes to some of the bigger games in the US.  Here are some new products that they have in stock.

General Airsoft Discussion / 12/9/05 Forum Down Time...
« on: December 10, 2005, 07:47:01 AM »
Yesterday, Friday, the server that hosts this site was experiencing some strange things, namely php would use up all the system resources.  The site was taken down and I have moved it to a new server on a different ISP.  I stayed up late last night doing this.  I moved the DNS records over last night as well, and those can take up to 72 hours to propagate which means that from now until Monday, the forums will work for some, but not for others.

You may have also noticed that some of the parts of the site are not yet functional - namely the ASP pages.  This server was on a Windows 2003 machine and now it's on Linux.  I don't have any ASP installed, so I am trying to deecide which route I want to go.  Please bear with me as I try to improve things and get everything back up.

Thanks!

Sorry about the downtime.  It was due to an update on the server that was not approved by me.  It has been fixed.  Also working on the MySQL server and should be back to 100% soon.  The site may be a little slow while it's being worked on.

General Off-Topic Discussion / My PC upgrade saga... for BF2
« on: August 02, 2005, 09:25:56 AM »
Well, I've been playing BF2 on my aging system:

MSI KT3 Motherboard (only 4X AGP)
AMD XP 1600+ (non-overclocked)
512MB RAM (PC2100/266MHz)
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
SB Audigy 2
Maxtor 40GB HDD (ATA100)

I upgraded it to 1GB RAM a month or so ago and that improved things a bit, but after I found someone willing to sell me a slightly used, but never OC'ed Athlon XP 3000+/400MHz CPU for $60, I decided it was time to upgrade.  Now my sound card is pretty good and my video card is decent, but the rest was really holding me back.  I ran BF2 in 800x600 with medium settings and it ran at a good FPS with no stuttering, but at the price of that CPU, I figured I could afford a small upgrade.  I knew that the RAM I had in my system (@266MHz) would mean that my new CPU would be limited to ~1.75-1.8GHz instead of 2.1-2.2GHz without overclocking, but for $60, who cared?  I bought the processor and found out that my old motherboard would support the 3000+ processor with a BIOS update.  I did that and then took my PC apart to replace the processor.  As I popped the HSF off the motherboard, one of the tabs on the socket adapter - that holds the HSF on - broke clean off.  Damn!  I knew that it probably had to do with the age, considering that my MoBo was ~4 years old, and I ran the hell out of it.  Heat probably made it brittle.  I also knew that this simple failure meant that I wouldn't be able to use that MoBo for my new processor.  My simple $60 upgrade just got a lot more expensive and time consuming.  :x

Not wanting to have to completely reformat/reinstall, I decided that it would be best to try to find the same MoBo on eBay, after all, it was so old, it should be pretty cheap.  Nope.  Didn't find very many of the model I needed.  Oh well.  I told my wife what happened and she felt bad and offered to pick up a new MoBo while in town since she was near Fry's.  I gave her a model of a mobo that I thought might work well and it turned out that she found a much better model with more features and got a deal to boot.  She picked up an Abit NF7-S G2 and only paid $66 for it.  Wow.  Only "down side" was that it used an nForce2 400 Ultra chipset, which in and of itself wasn't really a down side except for the fact that my KT3 used a Via chipset which meant that a Windows reinstall/repair would be necessary.  Once she got the MoBo home, I saw that it had RAID and SATA built in - which was something I wasn't expecting.  I decided that I could spring a few more $$ to pick up some new hardware to go with it.  I dropped $87 for some Crucial memory (2x512 of PC3200, shipped FedEx 2 day) so I could get the full effect of my new processor, and dropped another $130 shipped for two Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB SATA150 drives.  Not bad - pretty much a new computer for less than $350.  My wife's computer will benefit from the additional memory she'll get as well.

Well, after all this, I am hoping to at least be able to run 1024x768/med for BF2 - though I thuroughly expect that to be attainable given what I could run before the "upgrade".  Yes, I plan on a RAID1 array, and not overclocking my Barton - call me cautious, but I prefer stability and redundancy over speed.
