Media at it's best

Airsoft in the news, last year.   Make your own decisions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqK3jg3b ... re=related

If the news does excellent research like this for airsoft, what kind of reasearch do they do for real stories?
I find most news speculative at best.

this clip has been stirring the proverbial hornets nest for quite some time. im glad you're bringing it up again though, for those who have not seen this, we need to be very careful with our sport, and speak up when we need to. There's a petition about this clip i saw somewhere, demanding an apology from news corp i believe...

"Oh, the media monkeys and their junkie junkies will invite you to the plastic pantomime." -David Bowie :P

The media will spin, freaked out parents who cant decipher the truth from the fabricated will take their kids airball guns away. We don't need their types.

Watch what you say and do, and be wise in your actions.

i like the "mark twain" approach. They want to talk shit, then let's give them something to talk about.  Let's stage a horrible catastrophe, complete with dismembered 13 year old for one station.  Then give the real story of how we staged it and how it really is to a competing news station. They'd eat it up just to show up the compitition.

media report = shameful attempt to gain ratings regardless of truth of story.  Michael Moore has made millions doing it.  All of the major news department reports do it.  Watch the news, then learn to sift through the bull$&@%.  This is nothing new.

At least Michael Moore picks what he documents, as opposed to all major media (MM is not major media), which report ANYTHING and EVERYTHING.  Michael Moore presents ideas and facts (but not always all of them) and represents the editorial, whereas the News are supposed to present ONLY the TRUTH in NEWS.  Mainstream news is becoming more and more an editorial, which is just wrong in my opinion.

On a side note, an editorial write (like MM and such, Anne Coulter *shivers*) present opinions based on their searching.  They are not trying to (as hard as they try) tell us the news, they are telling us what to THINK about the news (their use of news and its integrity is where they typically falter).  You cannot throw their lot into the mix of mainstream news, unless you think Roger Ebert is news, or PC Gamer reviews.  Subjective is editorials' nature.  The news must be objective (which is where the root of the problem lies).

Hope that clears some stuff up.  Its an objective versus subjective issue, not a who makes more money based upon their ideas problem.  Agree or disagree with Michael Moore, he does not claim objective abstract.

Assuming there is an objective view, can we really expect the media to present it with their bread bought from political coffers?

That video was absolutely ridiculous.  I did better reporting for my high-school newspaper.  You can't just jump to conclusions, a story needs facts, and that story had nothing.  Not to mention the neglect of simple safety.

Just to let everyone know, who doesn't already, ABC15 news is doing some kind of special report on how terrible fake guns are. in the preview report, they picture the shelves of stores with springers and such. Reports like this and the one from Fox scare me. Why attack FAKE guns as much as REAL ones?

Im afraid that with the recent Omaha mall shooting, people are going to, once again, angrily shout at congress to make stricter laws for/ban guns, and possibly succeed. When instead they need to angrily shout at congress for better security at all public places, install better monitoring devices such as discreet door frame metal detectors that alert the security office when someone comes in with far too much metal on their person.

Not to mention getting more civilians to train and arm themselves.

I really REALLY hope that these events and reports don't infringe on our right to bear arms the way we want to, or play airsoft the way we want to.

I think the answer here is training and arming the masses to take a more proactive role in maintaining their way of life - NOT increasing "security" with Mall Ninjas and metal detectors.

Metal Detectors = me not being able to defend myself and my family with my personal firearm.

I really don't think any laws will come of media reports, but perhaps from incidents involving airsoft guns?

I don't think any laws will come of Airsoft either though..

Have laws been created because of Paintball?

And dont give me the guns look different.. Some of those Paintball guns look  real too.
