I think two brands currently make them, get the Ares and don't go with the S&T Tar unless you plan on doing some serious upgrade work.

As far as I know the ares one is discontinued or you have to import it. If your thinking about the s&t make sure you get the metal gearbox version or better yet their electric blowback version. The ebb version I believe uses a better polymer and the rails and sights are metal but the regular ones  are polymer. the polymer is ok.. compared to the ares. Although s&t did sone things better than ares in the design such as the hop up is no longer attached the gearbox and the contacts or actuaters that hit the rods are metal on the s&t vs the ares which are plastic. Both guns perform ok out of the box with air leaks and such, but upgrade it if you wanna perform. One last note as far as I know I remember the ares having microswitch problem where semi wouldnt work sometimes because the gearbox was too tight and you had to shave it down. I haven't heard about this problem on the s&t as far as I know.

Well just adding to this s&t and Ares are the same company. One may be a higher end than the other like g&g vs combat machine, same company but one is a higher end type.

I've seen the metal gearbox version do quite well bone stock. I'd just change out the compression and you're set. Or if you want to be like most guys who have higher rof, SHS 13:1 or 16:1 gearsets are nice. And a nice high torque motor to complete it all. I prefer the matrix high torque series, never had a problem.

Madbull 6.03's are decent, 16:1 gearset, and one of spazz's full cylinders should do great. I'd recommend at most a sp120 spring, or a sp105 at least.
