Good Pack/Ruck

So, although I've gone through a variety of legit gear I've yet to ever have a good high-speed pack. I need it to be durable enough to hold about 60-75 pounds, and it has to be fairly large. I already know that the RAID is ideal for this job, but I was wondering if there were any other suggestions that anyone had PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with to offer some advice. Thanks!

Well, do you want like, an assault pack or a ruck? For me, a ruck is something for extended wear, which, a RAID is not. Even with a waist belt and a frame sheet, a RAID is uncomfortable and hard to balance.

I would recommend a Kifaru Pointman or Navigator.

I gotta say... for humping your shit on a 12 mile road march the old school ALICE ruck was a good ruck - so long as you got it adjusted right.

But then ALICE was pretty high speed back in my day....

IMO, the RAID isn't a pack for 60-70 pounds, even with the frame-sheet.  It's an assault pack or 3 day pack.  The only time I had that much weight in an assault pack was a trip to a 3-gun match and I used my Eagle A-III to haul the ammo.

How much are you willing to spend?  If you can afford it, go high-end and get a Kifaru.  It is worth the money (I've had two..one I bought and the other I traded for the one I bought).  I have numerous other Kifaru pouches and stuff.  Their stuff can't be beat.

Going down from there into the more affordable realm of things would be a Camelbak BFM.  It's about 2800 c.i. and can haul a bunch of stuff.

You might also look at the Tactical Tailor MALICE pack.  Based on the ALICE rucksack, it's been modified and upgraded.  I've never seen one, but I've heard good things about them, and the TT items I have seen have all been good.  

Full Disclosure, I am a Tactical Tailor dealer, so my opinion is a bit biased.  ..same with Camelbak and Eagle.   Kifaru only sells direct to the end-user.

WTF are you hauling that weighs 70 pounds, dude?

I've got packs staged for DART missions that weigh less than 50, and theres a whole lot of ammo and high-tech shit in those motherfuckers.

Make damn sure the pack you choose has a good suspension and frame!

Check the Kelty packs, or an LBT if you can find one.  I've seen some crazy new shit here, but the guys that carry alot of shit all the time use framed bags.

For a bag that carries normal loads 20-40 pounds, I use my DBT SOF bag.  It's the shit!

I'll be using it for Phase II of the STO evaluation. They make you haul insane amounts of weight.

SF to you is Security Forces.  Add an "O" between the "S" and the "F" and you'll be fine.

The AF SOF guys over here are pretty cool.  It's kind of strange how they are always together though.  You never see them go anywhere in groups of less than 15, and that includes taking a piss.  :lol:

Good luck though.  If you do end up in AFSOC, you have a rewarding career ahead!
