Save up your allowance money, and ask mommy & daddy to get you cash for Christmas.
was that necessary?

well one reply in a nut shell
1: i think i will save up a little more money, unless i can find a Tokorev
2: i have shot real firearms before i did it extensively, then Ammo for my .308 and even my .22 started getting scarce at the place we bought from
3: i have had numerous gun safety lessons, ( my mother would not even let me put a mag in unless i knew how to clean that weapon without help)
4: i hate to sound like a scaper but i did intend to buy third party like at a gun show.
5: I have heard nothing but bad reviews and comments about Hi points,
6: in response to the first comment it really does not matter to me revolver or automatic, i just need something that i can protect myself with, ( but also something that my mom can use)
7: thank you all for your responses i did not think i would get this many,
8: i do intend to stay in airsoft no doubt but i do have too many Airsoft guns then i know what to do with so i think i might have a little sale and any profits i get from it i am putting to getting, a handgun.
9: finally thank you all for your help

I would rather stab myself in the eye than tell somebody to get a highpoint.

I would too, but for this guy's budget...

That makes the correct answer get a more realistic budget.

YOUR BEST BET, however, is to save up a bit more and move up to a Ruger or Taurus. If you want anything different, you're looking at $500+ for a Glock, Sig, S&W, or any make of 1911.

My point is I wouldn't recommend a Hi-Point in any situation.  I would go without before buying a Hi-Point.

Hello AA, i am interested in buying a Real firearm not just any firearm though i am interested in a handgun

i would like to know what is the best handgun that is .40 cal or under and is under $250

Sounds dumb but have you shot a fire arm before? Do you have any experience? Do you own any other fire arms? Is this your first fire arm? You cant just go and say I wanna spend this much money on a gun whats the best.... guns don't work that way, you gotta go and put your hand on it first, feel it.... price on a fire arm shouldn't really be a first concern I think. And this site is prob not the best to ask for advice for firearms, might wanna go to a dedicated fire arms forum. (I'm not saying nobody on here knows about gun hahaha)  Go visit your local fire arm retailer!
i have shot up to a .40 before and a .45 and realized i could not get a hold of the Kick effectivley

Nice man! I like 9mm cheap ammo too or even a 22 real cheap ammo but sometimes hard to come by, it goes fast! Have you seen the Ruger 10/22 P90 conversion that shit is sick! I know its not a handgun but still

you buy your bb's from walmart, oh god,
and like i said before i am going to save up money
however i think i may be able to talk my freind and teamate into selling me either his Makarov or his Ruger p89, i mean ever since he got his Kimber Custom II he hardly ever shoots either gun so
the odds are in my favor

Kinda reviving a dead thread here... but as someone who's been in your shoes, I'll pitch in.

I would say buy a CZ-82. 9x18 Makarov is cheap and plentiful and you can find CZs for $250 (or you used to be able to). Best gun for that kind of money in my opinion. They're reliable and accurate. Aftermarket is lacking. But the best thing about buying a used gun is you can usually sell it for about what you paid for it, in case you want to upgrade to a pricier gun down the road.

My first and only current handgun is a Beretta 96D (.40 police issue) that I paid a whole $300 for. Manufactured in '95 in the USA, holstered a lot, shot a little. Almost bought a CZ, but bought the Beretta because the price was right and I knew there was good aftermarket for them.

Point is, there are more options out there than having to save up for a $500+ gun. Hell, Palmetto State Armory was having a Black Friday sale on brand new Kahr CM40s (subcompact) for $330. Keep an eye out for deals and check backpage and armslist often to gauge prices. See something that catches your eye for sale, then research the hell out of it. And again, if you buy it for a good price and a month later see something you like more, just sell the first gun. You probably won't lose any money, and you might even make a couple of bucks

My question is that if it is just for defense, why does it have to be bigger than a .22? They can do the same deeds for less money. This is especially important if as you say, you arent confident with shooting one and is to be easy for your mom to use.
