Accessories & Gear / Rifle Scope or ACOG Replica?
« on: January 06, 2010, 04:48:20 PM »
I'm looking for a fixed 4x (lens size doesnt really faze me, wether it be 4x30, 4x32, or any of the sort), with illumination, crosshair type doesnt matter (no red dots though please), a bullet drop compensator would be nice but doesnt matter. I've heard mixed reviews on the replica ACOGs, with the adjuster knobs and eye relief and such, but I'm lookin for a decent scope. I found a nice one on ASGI: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.p ... ts_id=5993 but i was wondering if anyone had any opinions on other scopes, or what the most satisfying Rep ACOG would be, Thanks!

Found a decent one (I think) thats illuminated: http://www.ebairsoft.com/ebairsoft-excl ... -2834.html

Any opinions?

Troubleshooting / Gearbox + Hop-up Seating Issues
« on: December 29, 2009, 11:03:36 PM »
Specs (ask for more if needed): G&G SCAR-L, stock hop-up unit, G&P 7mm Reinforced Gearbox (version 2), stock nozzle

Situation: Took my gun into Gearbox after experiencing a wiring issue, as well as the hop-up screws not matching up with the holes in the lower receiver, they fixed it up nice and fine in ~1 day (awesome). They fixed the majority of the seating issue, however the screws are still just a tiny bit off. Apparently the hole in the front of the gearbox was a little too small, which didn't allow the hop-up to go completely back, and also immobilized the nozzle, they drilled a little of it out, and fixed the majority of the issue. I'm still getting an occasional misfire and a drop of about 20-30 fps, although the gun shoots fine otherwise (it cycles completely), my p-mags no longer feed at all because the hop-up isnt aligned all the way. I'm thinking of drilling out a little more of the hole. Any suggestions?

Accessories & Gear / Silencing
« on: June 07, 2009, 11:36:08 PM »
Wasn't sure if this was the correct place to post on making an AEG more quiet, but accessories seemed to fit the best.

For some time I've been looking into silencing my MP5A5 (MK5A5). Now of course mock silencers don't actually hinder the noise, and are commonly just used to hide an extended barrel. Gas guns may be affected slightly with a modified mock silencer with acoustical (sound-dampening) material lining the inside to distribute the escaping gasses. There are also pistol grips that are built specifically to silence the motor, but I have only come across ones built to work on M4/M16 series weapons. Since most of the noise on AEG's comes from the gear-box and motor, the material must be applied to the lower receiver and pistol grip. I have tried to line the insides of both with thin pieces of cloth (Cotton) and insulating foam. The sound was reduced some bit from the motor turning the gears and the overall vibration and noise from inside the gearbox. It hasn't truly gained the low decibels that a suppressor on a real weapon would produce, but noticeablly became more quiet. So far the insulator material has worked better out of the two. I was wondering if anyone has a better idea on materials or an expert understanding on sound-dampening. Will post pics of the receiver and grip if I find a true solution.

^ I also have the systema silent head set.

Troubleshooting / G&G SCAR Locking Up
« on: December 30, 2008, 03:43:55 PM »
I recently purchased a G&G SCAR-L and immediately put in a custom length barrel and an M110 Spring, put everything back together perfectly and went shooting the next day. Went through about 1500 rounds with no misfeeds or any problems and it suddenly locked up as if the battery was dead so we put in a fresh battery and the same problem happens in about 10 rounds on full auto or semi auto. When pulling the trigger it will click and then be able to be pulled fully back but it seems as if the gears weren't spinning. We took it apart again and just ran the motor through the battery and it spun fine so it's not an electrical problem from the motor to the battery nor is it a motor problem itself. The gears also were spinning perfectly and the gearbox looked as good as new (which it was). I have seen other threads about bad shimming jobs that cause a similar problem but I'm not sure what to really do about it, any help would be greatly appreciated.
