I am ashamed to learn of this.  My fellow MP's should not be acting in this fashion. [:(]

Every once in awhile you hear about something that really does make you cringe.

Anyone remember that M1 rolling over that Iraqis car because they thought he was stealing wood?

Same kind of thing - assclowns.

Nope!  I am serious!

Lets be real for a moment, most of these kids who are representing all of us over there are exactly that.  Fresh faced kids from all walks of life with little life experience and most of which this is the first time away from home!  Suddenly they are a world away from home and having to deal with the stress of combat, fear of death and are being told they are coming home soon only to stay longer!  They are dealing with a people who do not want them there, who do not follow Geneva conventions prefering brutality over being humane!

Is it wrong, Yes.  But these are isolated incidents for us, not the norm. Growing up military I used to hear the stories at the barbeques, the gym at the base and in the homes.  Before the internet age these stories would come out months/years after the battles were over.  We are just hearing about it sooner now than later.

Facts are, major combat is over and more soldiers are dying.  We get captured we get sent to torture rooms, raping rooms, pawns put on public display to be bartered with and publically executed, mutilating our dead and putting them up on display!  So what if some of our soldiers acted inappropriatly, They Never Have!  We to the best of our ability protect their civilians, they Actively Seek Out and Elaborately Kill Ours!  We are establishing a free democracy for them, With Our Money, and they attempt to destroy it at every opportunity!

So Boo Hoo for the Iraqi prisoners who were mistreated!  Over being tortured, suffering through un-wanted Man Love, no medical attention or worse, having my body mutilated and spread all over Fallujah.  Compared to let's see, prolonged sleep deprivation, stripped down, wearing a hood over my head for hours on end and having to endure loud music for hours on end.  You know you're right, if it was country music then that's Just Plain Wrong!  Still I think I'd go with the latter!

I am Proud of EVERY Last One of Them!  GOD Bless them All and am Gratefull for their service and sacrifice,,,

Im with Raven on this one, you put guys in a combat situation were they have possibly seen some of there buddies get killed you have to expect some type of acts of agression. Im not saying its right or wrong or that we shouldnt be the bigger man. Im just saying it doesnt suprise me.

Another thing to remember is that we don't really know whats going on.  None of us are over there seeing what is happening each day.  Its easy to be critical (Not saying any of us are, just pointing it out.) when you're not the one under stress and under pressure.

I don't have to make decisions where the wrong answer gets me killed or put in prison, and the right answer means just having to face more terrible decisions again.  It is absolutely freakin fantastic that there are so many good folks that would go and do that so as to allow the rest of us not the luxury of not having to.

I get up in the morning and worry about if I want to get the damn toaster out to heat some waffles or not.  I'm not faced with whether or not some dude is going to bust in and start shooting at me, or if I'm going to get caught in an explosion that day.  I don't pretend to fathom what stress is in comparison to the Soldiers over there.

Do people make ill decisions under stress?  Sure they do.  Are there bad apples?  Of course there are. But 99% are absolute gold, I'm sure.

Add in the stress and resentment losing friends would bring, and I could easily see some people taking it to far.
Not to say they are right in doing it, just saying I can see how it would happen.

ok now, i understand (well, no, i dont, i cant, but i can empathize) with the situation of the troops.  i understand in part WHY this is happening.  THAT DOESNT MAKE IT RIGHT, AND SURE AS HELL DOESNT MAKE IT A GOOD THING!  the way you post, you seem to LIKE the torture of a people who didnt want us there in the first place, and are, in their opinion, fighting for their freedom!  whether you were for the war or not, whatever your reasons, you have to admit that WE are the aggresor, invading what was a sovereign country, pushing our morals and government on them.  they have a right to resist.

funny you mention the burned and dragged corpses.  oddly enough, as those were us "contractors" and not military, and the iraqis responsible were also not military, the geneva convention doesnt apply.  which is why we have the "contractors" from blackwater et al there, because they can do things our regular military cant. (not arguing good or bad, just a statement of fact) of course, we havent been obeying the geneva conventions too well ourselves here.  and...  protected civilians?   you realize that the CONSERVATIVE count is 6k civilians dead, up to perhaps 12 k?

no ones calling the soldiers animals, or trying to stereotype the soldiers, so if thats the point you were trying to respond to, your aim sucks.
but i dont think you are going to get any support of line of thinking that says that this is the perfect way for soldiers to blow off some steam.  it happens, yes, but to say that you are PROUD of it?

Read it again please.

I Am Very Proud of Them!  Of Them Alex, Them!  They screwed up, but still didn't do what they would have happened to them if the situations were reversed. Bad way to blow off steam, violenece begets violence, our boys are following orders and doing their jobs. Geneva convention doesn't apply, then how about human decency, how about humanity?

Now that you ahve read it understand it.  My AIM is dead on, work(ed) very hard to keep it that way!  You may not like my target, but I hit it none the less.  I respect your opinion Alex and that's what makes this country great, we may not agree but you are still my brother in the greatest place on earth.  Now Get A Towel and Clean Up Your Mess Bleeding Heart!
