Google Talk
« on: August 31, 2005, 08:36:37 PM »
Google released their IM client/network for beta last week. Anyone that has a Gmail account can already access it. The network is jabber based, so you can use any jabber im client. If you don't have one already, Google also has an official client.

Hey Paco, can we get a jabber/googletalk icon under our sig line with aim/yim/icq/email/etc stuff?

My gmail addresses are 5.56x45 and j.g.mcclendon at gmail dot com

Everyone, if you use google talk, what is your name?

I thought the beta version googletalk only worked on Windows based machines.

If you look at the site, it says other clients. They network is based on Jabber, an already established, open-source, scalable protocol for IM. Apple's iChat AV already supports it, as do GAIM, Trillian, Adium, and half a ton of other IM clients. Send me a message if you are on later and I'll help you set it up.

Everyone else, if you use more than one IM network, or would like to, and you still use AOL's, Yahoo's, or MSN's software, I'd highly recommend trying GAIM. It will allow you to connect to all of those networks from one program and it does a bunch of things the official clients don't do.
