G36 Users?
« on: February 24, 2009, 07:06:52 PM »
As us g36 users know the mags are a little blocky, so they have a hard time fitting into mag pouches. Does anyone have solutions that you have used or think that would work to fix this problem?

its possible and quite common to saw or brake off the knobs that connect the mags together, after that point you should be able to fit them into a vest just fine ( depending on the vest/ mag scenario ) This is of course of you don't attach the mags together.

as far as I know know. It does however depend on the pouches, but I'll put my money on taking those knobs off

I personally don't have a G36, but I've heard from a few people that ak pouches work well.

I don't think an M16 mag pouch will ever work very well.  You won't be able to retrieve the magazine easily when you need it.

If you don't have a LOT of money invested in G-36 mags just convert it to use M-4 mags. Something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Private-Parts-Airso ... dZViewItem .

This will allow you to use plentifully available mags and pouches. You can barrow a mag if you have issues with one or run out of ammo. This will also allow you to have a secondary (M-4 / 16 or SCAR.....ECT) that will use the same mags. Have you ever gone to a game and seen how many M series guns there are????

Or you could invest in having some custom pouches made. Ganef is your man for that kind of stuff. He makes quality kit.

Alright, not to sound all important and stuff, but I hope you didn't break off those tabs.

I have been using G36s for 5 years now, and have taken quite some time to figure out how to get the unwieldy mags nice and secure without worrying about snagging.

Well, there are multiple options.  The general rule of thumb is, a double M16 style magpouch holds one G36 magazine, while a triple M16 style mag pouch holds two LINKED G36 mags. This doesn't always work, as not all pouches are made equal.  TT makes great G36-specific pouches, which I use on rigs other than my authentic German gear.  If you don't want Flecktarn (or the desire to spend the money on MOLLE capable IdZ pouches or the obsolete Link Webbing), there are the options above.  But I recommend you get used to linking your mags.  Its a lot more efficient than you might otherwise think, especially in a proper G36 mag pouch like the TT, designed not to get snagged.  The TT can also hold 2 G36 mags unlinked, but they get caught on each out as you could assume.  Still, don't chop those nubs and holds off.

A simple, elegant solution is to get some cloth tape, and tape over the nubs.  This will let them come out without snagging on the other magazine.  Not as smoothly as two AR magazines of course, but you can always remove the tape to regain linkability.  This also works great for single mag pouches, as non-G36 specific stuff usually can snag on that thing due to the internal material.  Electrical tape can work too, but has a lot more friction than the cloth tapes.  I have tried black hockey cloth tape (NOT HOCKEY STICK TAPE, THAT'S HIGH FRICTION) and it worked great.  I still prefer linked though, because its a lot easier having "one" mag pulled worth two reloads.

Also, for an alternative, M14 Open Top mag pouches will fit G36 magazines in them well.  Taping over the top lugs are recommended for this setup as well.  Some m14 ones are too tight though, but most will fit a G36 mag.

http://www.tacticaltailor.com/g36doublemagpouch.aspx

My MAV setup:

Four TT G36 pouches, they can be height adjusted and have depth cinched down with the retainer bungee to fit a single nicely, or use practically any other magazine, thus diversifying your loadout for G36 mags, M16 mags, G3/M14, AK, anything really.  Then on the right (left side wearing) I have a Condor double M14 open top shingle (with a 40mm pouch on top), for quick access to single magazines.

EDIT: The M16 conversion magwells will get the job done, but I am a G36 purist and will never vouch for them ;).

I personally love the tabs.

http://weaponblender.com/index.php?productID=528

I have this vest and it works great for G36 mags.  Once you cut out the dividers, the double M4 mag pouches easily hold a G36 mag.  It can hold 6 G36 mags (1 in each double M4 mag pouch and 2 clipped together in the utility pouch)  It has 2 dump pouches which can hold about 3 G36 mags in it each. (it can fit more, but you have to organize them)  So I start off with the clipped mags in my gun, dump those in the pouch, then pull out a single, dump that in the dump pouch, then grab another single and put that in the empty Utility pouch. (where the clipped mags were)

I use STAR midcaps which hold about 150, so that roughly gives me about 750 rounds and then I carry a highcap "just in case."  That gives me about 1100 rounds which is PLENTY for me.

Great vest that is pretty comfy and seems durable.  (it can hold a hydration bladder in the back too)

TT vests and such are extremely expensive and aren't really ideal for minors. lol (80 for the vest and at 30 bucks a double G36 pouch, you are looking at about 170 bucks)

Yeah, the SAAVs can hold quite a few G-36 magazines.  Not a bad deal for the price.  Stealthemaster, did you buy the OD one?

Apparently, the vest is a SAAV, (South African Assault Vest) ha ha but whatever.  Yeah, I got the OD one.  I didn't go for the fleck because apparently it doesn't match very well and OD is universal, so if I ever get another set of camo, I can still use the vest.

Yeah, I have 5 midcaps (750 rounds) and one high cap (350), so if you need more ammo than that, you should try aiming..... ha ha

The Flecktarn one is nearly perfect when it comes to the pattern.  I was amazed when I got mine.

Really?  I meant colors, not the pattern.  (like the red is too red) http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2265/195 ... 240610.jpg

I got my fleck from weaponblender, where'd you get yours?
