Title: So, what's your opinion of the new forums?
Post by: Admin on December 19, 2004, 08:48:05 AM
Of course, as I mentioned, I will be making additional changes and some minor upgrades.  Most notably, the forums are in the "default" color scheme, so that will be the biggest/most notable change I will be making soon though others will also be coming.

Before you give your opinion, please take a few minutes to browse around and familiarize yourself with some of the new features.

Try posting...
Look at/use the links up top...
Browse around some of the posts...
Check out the calendar and mini-calendar...
Etc...

Post your opinions, questions, etc...  here.

Thanks!

Looks good, Jason.

To me, it seems like the rank pictures are too large and that they kind of overshadow the avatars.  If avatars can only be 80x80, (Which I think is a good size) it seems like the ranks should be smaller.

One of my favorite things about the old AA forums was the Active Topics page.  Is there one for this forum?  I can't seem to find it...

Yes, I also Loved the active topics page.  Otherwise I will be picking and hunting for new posts and topics all the time     I also agree with Matt, the rank picts are nice but are too large.

I agree I liked the active topics, this way I could sort threw all the B.S newbie post

Yes, Active topics page was very usefull.  I use a few other boards that use this same layout, works well for most.

Perhaps this:

http://www.airsoftarizona.com/forumbb/s ... d=newposts (http://www.airsoftarizona.com/forumbb/search.php?search_id=newposts)

Is the Active Topics Page?
Title:
Post by: sNiPeRWoLf88 on December 19, 2004, 01:04:04 PM
yea, there still is a active topics link on the right side above the first forums.
Title:
Post by: Nil8r on December 19, 2004, 01:35:25 PM
I'd like a smaller rank size, and an easier way to access active topics. Other than that, I like the new design.
Title:
Post by: Firehead on December 19, 2004, 01:46:48 PM
i agree with the smaller rank avatar. i liked the old format better, but becuase this is PHBB2 it will be more reliable(i think). I'm sure we'll all get used to it soon.

The color scheme needs to be changed and the rank pic needs to be smaller, but other than that it's great! :o

There is basically in active topics page. In the top right it says "View Posts Since Last Visit."
Title:
Post by: Admin on December 19, 2004, 04:27:01 PM
Thanks.

Yes, there's an "Active Topics" link - a few of you have found it already.  It's called "View posts since last visit" and it is found in the top right-hand area.  I'll probably tweak it a bit.

I will also make the ranks smaller - I agree that they are a bit too large.

Also, as already stated, the forum *look* will change (eg - new colors).

EDIT -

Can you make it so we can dictate the pixel size of our avatars?  Mine looks silly at 69x80 :P

How about a "Quick Reply" field at the bottom along with "Quick Preview"?

Cool, now I can actually vote in the polls.  Im officially and AA citizen again!

The old forum were more user friendly, but maybe I was just used to them.

Im still wondering if all the old threads are on the new forums though...

Paco, you should add an "active topics" icon/link to the list at the top of all pages.

There is a possible (low chance) security risk that I discovered and notifyed Paco. I'm not sure if he got it though.

We dont have a place in our profiles to place a birthday or age.  Its little, but sometimes its the little things that count   :P   Not at all an issue, just a reflection.

Post by: Admin on December 19, 2004, 07:42:18 PM
Mr. Joseph, there's a "view new topics since last visit" link that's similar to active topics in the old forums.  It's on the upper right hand area.

-Wraith- thanks, I fixed the permissions issue.

-MAD SARGE- thanks for the suggestion.  I'll see if I can't work in some customizations and improvements in the profile, like adding birthdays (and even having them appear on the calendar).  Good idea.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions guys - this is YOUR forum - I'm just trying to make the best and most stable forum as we grow.   :D

Im new here and just getting into arsoft play paintball and this is the same setup as www.paintballarizona.com (http://www.paintballarizona.com) worked very well, maybe you could figure out a way to have the thirty most recent topics on the side like they have there

I did see that, but that link can't be seen from all pages.  The old forums allways had the active topics link at the top of the page.  I'm guessing the forum software is locked and you wont be able to make that link visible from all pages.  If you could, that would be awesome.

The forum is only a "base".  As it stands now, it has been heavily modified.  It's a change I can make.  I'll see about doing it.
Title: Searches
Post by: -MAD- SARGE on December 19, 2004, 09:07:59 PM
I've tried doing some searches and it seems that If I want to search by any given word such as "game" for example, I get no matches found.  I should get hundreds of matches.  It seems like that the forums only reconizes this new forum for searching with key words.  Meaning that any old posts moved to this new forum can not be searched by using a key word.  The only ones that appear are new posts originally posted on this new forum.

I can see all the posts from the old forum from a specific member if I want, but It wont come up with any narrower selections with the key word function.  It comes up with no matches found.

Just pointing this out as I know how useful the search function can be  8)

I also want to say thanks to Jason (Paco) for hosting this website and donating his time, money and effort to maintain this!!!
Title:
Post by: Admin on December 19, 2004, 09:16:28 PM
Crap; you're right.  It only searches the posts made specifically on this forum - not the imported posts.  That pretty much negates the whole purpose/benefit of me importing the stuff from the old forums.

Well, I will try to see if I can reindex it.  Thank you for pointing that out!

The new forums look good.  It looks like not all of the topics got moved over successfully though.  I noticed a few that didn't make it over, the topic "Very preliminary info about LCIV" for instance.

It would also appear that not everybody can see the BIG notice that Paco posted under the annoucement section of the old forums...  I guess they just can't make eye glasses strong enough for some people. #-o

I think the new site is cool, but it will take some getting used to. I like the View posts since last visit since it is the same as active forums.

Strange that that one didn't get moved over, but you're right, it doesn't appear to be here.  It was before the cut-off date as well.  Oh well. :-k

If Paco builds it they will come. No matter what the forum is like.....

I would like to see a members only Area, Some place the OGs and paying members can talk and rant without all the Newbies and None AA members chiming in

For instance I will ask a legitimate question about a problem, Looking for a senor AA person to answer And I get a  bunch of newbie Input which takes over the topic  No Answer and I tune out  after I get dumb responses

Plus if your not a paying member  there needs to be limits, On what a non members can do like list items for sale, start a topic, get member discounts, enter the members only area, etc etc

I know a lot of guys have tuned out due to some trolls trolling the board
Title:
Post by: cmptrdewd on December 20, 2004, 09:20:52 AM
OKAY, so what if I am a newbie!
If you have a question that requires the consultation of an experienced player then there should be a place where people can ask questions and have them answered only by "members" with a certain number of posts, etc., but still let it be visable to the public.
I have learned a lot from this forum and I thank Paco for his effort in this forum! If I was old enough I would take every chance I had to play with you guys! I hope I don't get restricted from where I can speak with other poeple from the airsoft community! :(

I think you misunderstood what he was saying...

There are actually a number of private forums on this web site.  Some belong to teams, some belong to groups.  Whether you can see the private forum(s) is dependant upon team memberships and AirsoftArizona membership.

For example, SWAIRTAC has two forums here.  One is public - everyone can see it and one is private - only SWAIRTAC team members can see it.  SWAIRTAC has a team leader and he controls access to their private forum.

I have also added an "AirsoftArizona Members" forum that's invisible to all unless you're in the "AirsoftArizona" members group.  The group is for those who are paid AA members.  To join, you have to be a paid AA member and then request membership by clicking on the "Teams/Groups" link above (top righthand corner) and request to be added to the group.  Membership requests are verified against the current AA member database and then approved.

Anyone can request that a team forum (private or public) be set up, as has always been the case.   [smilie=armata_pdt_01.gif]

i'm not sure of this was posted, but you might want to make airsoftarizona.com link to this forum, instead of the old, which it currently links to when you click "click here for remainder of site content" or something like that.

Ok, sounds good! [smilie=armata_pdt_01.gif]  I was just afraid that I would lose some of my freedom on this forum just because I can't play AA games. I don't have an AEG or a vest and I'm a minor. I wouldn't answer a question that I didn't know the answer to.

Delta, this button is on the main page.  Click on the Airsoft Arizona logo.  Then look to the right side of the page.  Look below the calender,  There are three links there that say....

View posts since last visit
View your posts
View unanswered posts

Right now you can only find those links on the main AA page.  Once you go to another page you would have to click on the AA banner to get back to it.

Hope this helps

I like the snow on the AA Logo!

I keep getting email messages for every topic that I visit.  Its the subscription email that notifies you if someone posted in that topic.  But I never click on the button marked "Watch this topic for replies".  But I still get these messages, so I have to unsubsribe from each of those topics to stop getting them.
Title:

Ok, OK I just missed it.  Your right Firehead.  Under your profile there is a line that says "Always notify me of replies"  it was checked yes.  IF checked yes it will notify you if anyone posts in a topic that you posted in.  So needless to say I turned that function off.

I think we'll all get used to the differences in the new site; there are some navigational challenges right now for some of us, it seems; a more vibrant, earth tone color scheme would be nice. Have to admit I was pretty comfortable with the old one, but change is good

I don't know if it was already posted, sorry if it is. But it'd be cool of we could have like what we had in the old AA forums, the part to put some text in, so when people visit the user profile, they had the latest news, and etc. A latest news and bio deal would be cool. Or a text box to put random stuff in, like listing what guns you have, and etc.
