I hope your ball bearing bushings last longer that the ones I put in my M4.  If you remember that's what I put in there the first time I upgraded it and they disintegrated.  If I remember correctly, the shaft's on the high speed gears are smaller than normal gears so they would be sloppy with metal bushings if you were to change them out later on.

Right, but didn't you also upgrade your spring?  From what I hear, the BUSHINGS can only handle a stock spring and UP TO an M100 (which is rated at about 315 FPS).  I left the stock spring in mine to put MUCH less stress on the gears and bearings.

I bought the Systema High Speed package and used what they supplied with it.  I would assume that they wouldn't put a spring in the package that was too powerful for their gears and ball bearings.  Later on after I distroyed the bearings I installed an M120 and metal bushings along with the stock gears.

The Systema High-speed package?  Your only choices are either the Systema FTK or the gearset (which only comes with the gears and bearings - no spring).  If this was the gun you used at OSG3, I thought it had an upgraded spring in it, and that you were using a battery that was either 9.6v or 10.8v...

The gun I used at OSGIII was completely different than what it started out as with the SYS-FTK99-09 Systema Full Tune Up Kit 99 for M4A1 ( Super High Speed ) , (aka - package) which is what I installed in my M4.  At OSGIII my M4 had stock gears, metal bushings, an M120 spring, polycarbonate piston, silicon piston head with bearing, and spring guide with bearing, most of which was from the Systema FTK.  I installed the FTK before the first game I attended in Prescott Feb '01, which is where the bearings failed, long before OSGIII.

I was using a 9.6v large pack.  I tried it with a 10.8v battery but the rate of fire was way too high so I never used it after that first testing.

Ah...  that makes sense.  SO the differences are that I am using an 8.4v battery, but I added a Systema "High Speed Motor".

I think moving from an 8.4v battery to a 9.6v battery would make a big difference on reliability.  I won't DARE try a 9.6v (too much power for bearings to handle as evidenced by your experience) and even with the 8.4v, I can't even get the gun to fire one shot in semi...  semi is actually a 2-round burst.

Did I mention that I went through a bag of BB's that day?  Probably didn't help any either, but then my stock Marui gears and metal bushings can take that kind of punishment.  So it was a good learnig experience.

New custom SR-16 - wow...
« Reply #14 on: July 25, 2002, 09:14:52 PM »
I just built my new CQB weapon.  I based it off a new SR-16.  I left the stock spring in it so it still shoots about 280 FPS.  I put on a short front outer barrel and cut the inner barrel about 3".  Then, I installed a Systema "super high speed gear set".  Instead of using metal bushings, I used metal systema ball bearings for even more speed (since the spring isn't upgraded) and then, to top it off, I installed a new Systema high speed motor.  I was planning on using a 9.6v battery in it, but I tried it out with my 8.4v 2400mAh battery, and the ROF is so fast that it CANNOT shoot in semi-automatic!  When I put it on semi and fire, it does 2-round bursts!   ...and that's only with an 8.4v battery.  The ROF on auto is absolutely insane...  I was worried that it was too fast for the mags to feed, but it works fine.  When it fires, it looks like there's a plastic stick in the barrel...
