FOOL thats not what it is. Its called force recon. that and scout sniping are two totally different things. even though the name dosent say it scout snipers do recon missions. Just because the are snipers dosent mean they have to shoot people from far away. snipers can change the tide of the war without even fireing one bullet.

and this is all Marines by the way

i know this is all marines, but for the sake of the question, what would you call a non-sniper who goes behind enemy lines?

Recon is surveillance/intelligence/espionage, While sniping is well, Sniping. A recon sniper is a sniper that does surveillance and intelligence gathering.

if you want the real difference call me because my uncle was force recon and his some is now scout sniper also one of my other cousins is special forces and has been through all sniper schools. Each is alike but different in many ways. It would take awhile to type it all nut one example is they will (unless changed by the soldier him/her self) will have the same load out  but will ust that equipment in completely different ways. So ya if you want more info pm me and i will give you my number

I was in the Marine Corps for 5 years from 1998-2003. 3/5, 31st MEU (SOC)  1/4, and MWSS 371.

MFR is now MSOB, under MARSOC.

MFR was deactivated and rolled into MARSOC sometime in 2010, in 2008 the BN levels were reduced to 2 or 3 Companies. and the Reserve unit was decon'd.

MARSOC now runs the show and the MFR companies are nothing more then MEF asset. Along the lines as an FO company.

I'm glad you were able to pull up a wiki page. Next time try to read the whole thing as well as make sure its up to date.

The real difference is nothing more then apples and oranges. Mission and Taskings are different for each. The old "my Navy Seal can kick your Green Berets ass" argument is stupid. All of SOCOM is precision tools for each groups task. SOCOM/JSOC and the commands under that umbrella are all incredible at what they do.

With that Red Devil, thank you for your service I'm assuiming the 82nd AB icon is your FWTSI.
