Taking apart the motor?
« on: February 20, 2005, 04:30:00 PM »
While working on my gun, a screw got lodged inside the motor.  Don't ask how, I'm not really sure.  But how do I get into the motor to get that screw out, it's down pretty far, and since the motor is magnetic, it's stuck to the metal... joy.

I spent the past half hour trying to get it out without taking it apart, but I gave up, and had to post this ridiculous question.

I had my motor out a while ago and don't have a clue how to get it open, I do have some ideas that might help though. I've had similar problems and the two things that've helped me get little things out of tight places are the 3-pronged claw thing from PC repair kits and small allen wrenches.

Well I've never taken apart a motor used for airsoft and I'm almost positive they are made to be much harder to take apart than R/C car motors that I am used to.  If they are anything like R/C car motors the top of them is plastic and you can just pop it off (with difficulty) and then from there it is all downhill...

If its an ICS motor, than you're in luck. Because the ICS ones have two little screws that hold the brush plate onto the back of the motor. But if its a marui motor (which Im assuming it is) you're pretty much screwed.

There is a way of taking it apart, but its really involved and is not really worth the effort. You have to tie back the brush springs with some dental floss (this is really deliacate), and pry the back plastic part out of the metal outer casing. And prior to doing this you have to get the bevel gear off of the shaft so you can slip the rotor out after you take to back plate off. This requires a special little tool (gear puller) that is nessicary for its removal.

In my oppinnion, I think you should just go and buy one of those super strong little extending magnets. They are about the size of a pen, but extend out like a car antena. They are extremley strong for their minute size, and Im guessing that you might be able to negotiate the fragment out with one.

Hope that helps!

its not as hard as grenadier makes it sound, ive done it before because i did the same thing you did..

you just need a way to bend the tabs which hold on the end piece.. dont need to remve the gear most likely, the screw wouldnt have worked itself in that deeply.

If the screw is only held in against the magnet i'd try centrifical force to throw it out.

Put the motor in a sling of some kind and swing it around real hard, the force might throw out the screw. (Just make sure you don't throw the motor across the room)

Now that's some good thinking outside of the box.

Make sure when you're swinging it around you make a "woooooooo" sound and call your girlfriend into the room.... WACK!
