Crono I was in the middle of the desert, and furthermore what the fuck is the point of carrying a gun if you don't have the balls to use it?! For crying out loud there is NO point in carrying a gun to "show you aren't to be fucked with" at all! The point of a gun is to defuse a situation as quickly as possible by ventilating the opfor. Period.

Use it if you have to, but nobody is going to murder you on the spot because they don't like the way you look.  That's straying away from my point:

Your question was what gun would be good for concealed carry- not what gun you would need for a zombie apocalypse.  There's a damn good chance you're never going to use your gun- and if you go looking for situations in which you can use it on people, then you don't deserve to own a gun.

A ruger will suffice your needs for a concealed carrying weapon.  .22LRs may not have a lot of stopping power, but if you put one in someone's gut, they'll think twice about whatever the hell they're doing.

I personally like the FNP .40, its a nice mid-size handgun with some good stopping power. Small enough to concealed carry but large enough to maintain a good grip.

http://www.galleryofguns.com/Genie/Defa ... lno=FNP-40

When we got ours it came with 3 mags, and a holster for a little under 500 new.

I'm a big fan of the FNP .357. Almost identical the FNP .40, but chambered in .357sig. Comfortable, interchangeable back-straps, and they come with 3 mags from the factory. Usually around $575-600 new.

Personally not a Glock fan. I carry a Barretta M9 at work (USMC MP). And when I open carry when not on base I carry a Springfield 1911A1 with Remington 230gr. Golden Saber JHP. It does the work I need it for. If there comes a time I need to employ it I know it will fire and the rounds should stop the would be assailant.

As for the dilemma you are having go out and fire the pistols you are looking at. Find what fits and works for you. Find a holster that is comfortable and fits the bill for your carry choice (concealed, open, small of the back, side, IWB, paddle). Then go out and get a good hollow point round. Hollow points by design are made to not over-penetrate and reduce the chance of ricochet.

Personally I carry a colt .45acp. Granted its a big gun but I an a big guy and I carry it concealed well on my hip under a shirt as for a holster I have a blackhawk one and I couldn't be happier with it. As gizmo said fireing with the pistols its all about how you feel me personally I find the 9mm too light of a round where as a .45 I can drop someone without them getting up if you find a .45 too big try a .40

as long as you hit your target, pretty much any size round will do the trick..?

if you carry, then you should be prepared to use it and accept the consequences/repercussions that follow. otherwise, getting away should be your first and foremost priority if you have the option (situation dependent)

not "carry a firearm to show you dont fuck around", that's just stupid

In a general purpose sense it will throw in the drug or alcohol factor then a 9mm round may not work and may just piss that person off and keep coming. And those who do carry often know they have to accept that fact that they may have to use it, but its those who carry it just to show they are not to be fucked with are the ones that really need to be careful with. I have a Bachloer's in criminal justice and very well the deadly force doctrine (you may match deadly force with deadly force) where as the guy carrying for show don't and someone throws a punch he's more likley to pull and use it where as someone who knows and carrys for a reason is gonna know that

I just gave my pistol to my brother so I'm in the market for a new one, or at least new to me. Haven't seen anyone mention the para ordnance warthog. 10+1 sub compact .45ACP. A perfect CCW. Has anyone fired one? I've put a few mags through a 1911 and thought the recoil was very manageable. Seeing as the warthog has a barrel that is about half the size I'm expecting more recoil, and with the shorter grip less control. I'd like some input if you have fired one or any other sub compact .45ACP. If you haven't shot one don't bother posting. This forum is full of heresay and I appreciate 1st hand experience. Thanks.

I'm carrying a Taurus PT145 right now.  Personally, I think it's hard to beat for the price.  10+1 capacity or 12+1 with the longer mags for the Taurus 24/7.  I can't say the recoil bothers me, but if it's that much of a concern, get a .40.

I've never shot a compact or sub-compact and I don't exactly have big hands, I know the 10+1 is double stack and must have a pretty thick grip. I'm more concerned that my hands will be to small with the thick grip than I am with the recoil. I've shot 44 mags since I was 14, so I'm able to handle the recoil, and besides recoil is half the fun of shooting. I suppose they do make a single stack model that only holds 6 rounds. That is something to look into. How much did you pay for the PT145? I know the PO Warthog runs about $800.
