Who died and made you king?  If you think this should be taken to PM, shouldn't your post as well?

Look, if you own a firearm, it's your responsibility to know how to use it.  Although this is off-topic from the original post, a Glock 9MM is just as good of a defense as a 20 GA loaded with buckshot or bird shot.  Obviously, we all want to defend our families here, but what if it was your kid, having a night-terror with a replica that you couldn't see in the dark.  Would you shoot?  This is why it is important to have a positive ID on your target before you open fire.  I know that when I was a kid, I did crazy things when I was unconsciouse ( like unlocking the doors and sleeping outside the house with the dog, or shitting in the kitchen garbage can).  If you don't know who you're confronting, don't fire.  To you, the security of your house is in danger, but to someone else, it might be refuge from a 'real' bad guy.  Regardless, if you fire and incapacitate an intruder, you have saved your family's life/lives.  In this case, you might as well own a Tazer X26 or C2 (or better).

In conclusion, two shots from bird-shot at close range should be enough to stop anyone who is intruding in your house.  Know how to use your firearm, and you won't have to worry.  Most times, if an intruder is cronfronted with a deadly firearm, they will either run or surrender.  You aren't supposed to want to use your weapon, you are supposed to use it in necesity.
