A full auto Registered Class III/NFA AK-47 will cost you around $12,000, and will be at least 18 years old.  A semi-auto AK-47 will cost you about $300.

Cool, thanks :)
Does the semi-auto law work the same as a handgun (cannot buy, but can be given) for a minor?

If you are 18 you can buy a long gun, 21 for pistols.  I think you can let a minor use you gun, but I would be very careful who you let use it, you will be liable.  I can remember a couple of times that my cousin and I took out his shotguns when we were underage, we even got stopped by a forest ranger once.  No problems, but we werent stupid.

I'm aware that minors can own rifles if they are given as gifts, but what about pistols?
Do you have to be 21 to own a pistol under any circumstances?

That's what I've always been told.

Speaking of semi-automatic AK-47's, what brand are you describing Paco?

SAR-1's (Romanian) are usually in the $300 range.  Lately, new ones have gone up a bit (from what I've seen).  WASR's are probably the least expensive, but a SAR-1 is, on average, the best AK clone for the money.  Step up a bit in price, and you can get one with a better finish and furniture.

You can get a WASR-10 from JandG (up in prescott, or at any gun show) for 288 with a 30 round mag.  Ive shot two, i cant see any reason to spend more money for an SAR.  Ive never cleaned mine, and it is extremely accurate, never jams, and will spit any ammo out just fine.  If you are just going to shoot it for fun, get a WASR-10.

One more thing, your comment, assuming you can still buy one, my buddy scott puts it best (shifty).  Everybody owns an AK.  There are probably more AKs in AZ than in IRAQ.  And with the right to bear arms, if its not a destructive device or fully automatic, you can buy one.  If its fully automatic, its going to be expensive and old.  If it is a new fullyautomatic gun, like the Glock18, youll never own one, none of us will.  In fact, the scottsdale gun club needs a part for their Glock18, but Glock doesnt want to sell it to them.

Get a Maadi ARM, much nicer than a Romanian in my opinion.  In fact they are the same model AK that Stenbridge Gun rentals converted to Full Auto for the movie "Red Dawn".

what about the AK47 kits that was linked to a while back? How hard is it to build one? If I have some machine skills and am not too dumb? What should I look for? Cheaper than dirt sells the kit parts not the reciever. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd/prod ... u=WX%2D210

Just another skill that I would like to learn.

Those are less receiver. You still have to buy the "gun."

Talk to Gixser, I understand he's put a couple kits together.  If you buy a completed receiver for around $100 and your kit, all that's really needed is some taps and screws to finish the job.

Of course I forgot to add that you need to install the correct amount of US made parts to make it legal or else you need to put a thumbhole stock on it.

Even if you build it yourself? Can one of the parts be the reciever? Is that still the same even after(if) the ban passes?
