General Airsoft Discussion / Re: Where is Combat Challenge Crew?
« on: November 30, 2014, 05:59:09 PM »
Nothing in the works right now for a large event.  We've been taking a break. Mark has been busy jumping out of airplanes and such, Mikey is doing Mud Runs and I've been focused on work (wait is that really taking a break?).   It's a lot of work to coordinate and run a large event, I'd like to do a few small games sometime in the near future just to get things flowing again.  I have an untraditional game scenario I'd like to test out on a small group in the next month or two once I fix my toys.

If you want to lean closer to realism, then no.  Most organized games do not permit their use as so to maintain within the spirit of Milsim.

Kid, you're killing me.  We've pointed you in the direction you need to go but I'll go a ahead and hold your hand the rest of the way.

The question is you want to find a group to play airsoft in Flagstaff.

Answer is the following;
A. The airsoft group in Flagstaff is called the Northern Arizona Airsoft Network or NAAN for short.
B. NAAN has their own Forum located here: http://naanetwork.proboards.com/
C. You should register on the NAAN Forum and ask your questions there to find a local team/events operating in Flagstaff.

This is your best option to find something local to you. Most of our events/teams are from Phoenix, Tucson and a few abroad.

Just be aware that most games / organizations only allow 18+ years of age to attend.  Some others may allow 16+ years of age and even fewer still that may allow younger that 16 years old. There are many, many reasons why this is and has been thoroughly discussed in past threads. If you wish to learn more on the subject please feel free to search the forums for further insight.  Now this may not be an option for you but my best advice to you is that you will have an easier time if you have a relative of age who can play along side you and be responsible for your well being.

Way too many, how sad.

Fun video!  Good short story and very cool with all the special effects.  I'm very low tech and I'm sure that took a ton of editing to achieve what you accomplished, well done!

Very fun game and always for a great cause!

General Airsoft Discussion / Re: Why I love and hate Milsim.

I have an article written that describes the various styles of airsoft play, and the people that participate on different levels.  I see evidence of the spectrum here in this thread.  If anyone wants, I'll publish it.

Please do.

Realism in airsoft kinda seems a bit far fetched. Stock AEGs have the effective accurate range of pistols and the "midcap" magazines that hold so many rounds that it ends up like this:

Nothing that I know of can replicate the muzzle jump and recoil of an assault rifle on full auto. High speed set ups allow any gun to have the cyclical rate of a MAC11. 11.1V LiPos are used by a good number of people to turn their guns into BB hoses.

I don't think any sane person would argue with you on that point, there is no perfect way to replicate a real firearm.  If we can all agree that a BB gun is just that, a bb gun, the rest of the aspects mentioned are completely achievable.  The question people should ask themselves is, "What do I want to get out of airsoft?"
1. Hang out with friends
2. Get outdoors or just away from home
3. Relax while throwing some plastic at your friends
4. The adrenaline rush of and intense bb fight
5. Leading or following others into bb fights
6. Pushing your self physically and mentally
7. Learning and developing new skill sets
8. Working with others to accomplish goals, task, or missions

Etc. the list goes on.  The main point I'm making is you make airsoft what you want it to be and fulfill those reasons why you play the game of airsoft. Everyone's reasons are going to be different, hence why there are many different styles of game play out there to choose from.

Sordin, I am one of those few who might agree with you.  Back in the day the term "airsoft" used to mean most of what you described. Somewhere along the way airsoft began to morph into what we now see in the mainstream today. During that transition time, there were those people who wanted to distinguish themselves from the new way airsoft was begin played and thus began using the term "milsim" to describe their style of airsoft. Today almost every game is called milsim, while in my opinion, most are not.

Now don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the way a lot of people like to play airsoft.  I too enjoy a good game that requires minimal critical thinking and has lots of quick paced action. It is definitely one of the very fun aspects of airsoft.  But along with those intense bb fights, I also enjoy testing my skills and knowledge. I enjoy implementing a security parameter, setting up and making a rappel with a full load out, hiking outdoors while navigating to my next rally point, trying to out smart an opponent or just having to size up a situation quickly and make decisions for good, bad or worse.  In my view most of the trades and skills in airsoft could be utilized as a good training tool to better yourself, whether it be leadership, teaching others, learning to know when to follow, getting some exercise outdoors, meeting new people and developing a good camaraderie, and learning a few of those basic survival skills such as land nav, situational awareness and first aid. Also it is very nice to push myself over a weekend and then be able to go home and relax after everything is over. I would not enjoy doing these things if I were doing them around the clock for days on end and so I have much respect for those who do or did on our behalf. I also definitely agree there are parts of airsoft that will never, ever be useful. I mean you are shooting a bb gun after all, so the aspects of marksmanship and medium to long engagement tactics beyond 200-300ft are just not going to happen.  I could talk forever, but a lot of what is mentioned are major reasons I got involved in airsoft in the first place and I will always love to talk to anyone who shares the same interests.

To wrap this up Sordin, a few of us are in the process of developing a CT Challenge that will hopefully allow new and old airsoft players to experience a few of the basic elements that we enjoy so much.  Think of it as an intro to milsim, I want to provide an alternate option to airsoft and share ideas with others. It's a lot of work but I love learning while doing, I hope others do too! So far I don't have a time frame for this yet but stay tuned for next year.
