Introduce Yourself! / Old, but new...
« on: August 08, 2005, 02:48:36 PM »
It's kind of wierd, me writing about myself in this forum. Most all of the original AA members know who I am. But I figure there's enough newer (and younger) members and other players who don't know who I am. So, I take pen in hand (or keyboard on desk, as the case may be) to introduce myself to the growing ranks of an organization I love and care about. My name is Curtis Greer. I go by the moniker "TheRev". The reason I am called "TheRev" is because I am a Rev, or Reverend, that is. I am an ordained minister of the Christian faith. But before any of you Jesus bashers out there get your knickers in a knot, I'm not the kind of Christian that jams Jesus down your throat. Quite the opposite actually. I like to lead by example. This thought process goes back to my days in the military (US Army, 1976 - 1989). Now, most of my airsoft activities have been in the planning and logistics arena. While I have not been on the field as much of late (and much to my woe, having missed LC4), I still drop in these forums on a daily basis. I've seen a tremendous amount of change taking place. Some good, some not so good. Needless to say, things can get a little exciting in here sometimes. As a moderator, it is partly my responsibility to see that things stay civil in here, and that's what I do. But I also like to see the pot get stirred up every once in awhile. It's good for soul... let's all the dross come to the surface. Well, you get my meaning (and if you don't... well, it doesn't matter to you anyway). So anyway, just thought I'd say hi, let ya'll know I'm still here.

PS  Kyle, are you really coming back? I am newly inspired.

Gas Powered Guns / Marushin Ruger NBB
« on: September 04, 2002, 03:35:38 PM »
Ok guys...
I'm not sure if Kyle or Riggs owns the Ruger Mk1 NBB from Marushin (or maybe it's neither of you two), but I have a question. I recently purchased the "stainless" version of the Assassin model (with the integral suppressor). Apparently the one and only magazine I have for this baby burst a seal yesterday. In otherwords, when I try to gas it up, it immediately blows out the top. It's not a slow leak, but the moment I try to put some gas in, it comes right out (like there's no seal at all). I want to take it apart to fix it but I'm a little concerned about small springs and such. Any helpful suggestions?

TheRev

By the way, when I first got the gun, it worked fine. It's a powerful little cuss. Punched a hole through two pop cans sitting back to back.
I was told I could load green gas (hFC22) in it. Instead, I mixed part green with part 134A.

Do an internet search for "Navajo County Recorders Office" and click on the links for searching county land records. Also, if the county does not have the records in their database, you can send a request to the County Recorder to obtain plat maps and recording maps. Of course, they charge a small fee for that info (usually around $10 or so). Hope this helps.

The title page for AA has several of our sponsors listed (eg. Airsoft Extreme, WGC, etc.). You could try them, or our very own KamikazeSM (aka. Nick H) puts in orders every once in awhile, and he's pretty reasonable. Also, Jungletoy.com just opened their store here in the valley and they carry CA, TM AEG mags as well as GBB mags. Give them a try too.

Here's the thread for Jungletoy

As I stated in my previous post, the gun works well. I have now had it for several weeks and can offer a more thorough performance review. BTW, Frank... I got my hands on a chrono last night and found out the gun only shoots 340-350. Not bad out of the box, but I had hoped it would be a little hotter. Spring replacement is a snap. Just open her up, pull out the cylinder group, pull off the spring retention clip, pull the spring out, put a new one (M120 or so) on the guide and slip it back in, replace the clip, put the cylinder group back in the body and close her back up again. The whole operation takes all of five to seven minutes (if that). The gears are steel gears and appear pretty stout. Make sure when you are messing with the cylinder group and the gears, that the sector gear is with the smooth side up. Interestingly, you can fiddle with gear movement with the upper off the gun and a battery plugged in. With the selector on "semi" you can press the trigger until the sector gear is in the right position, then just drop the upper onto the lower and replace the pins. It's that easy. Of course I haven't messed around with the gears themselves yet[;)] I believe that you'd probably be safe with up to an M150 but I'd hesitate to go higher until the gun has more history (unless you want to be the test subject). I've put over a thousand rounds through the gun so far without a single feed problem (using CA hi-caps, Marui Hi-caps and Marui standards). I've added my AimPoint onto the flattop and adjusted the hop-up to maximize distance. Currently I'm hitting a 12" metal target at 130' on a consistant basis (in single, three shot and full auto). The one complaint I have (if you can call it a complaint) is the delta ring spring is a little weak. My Marui RIS unit fitted very nicely (with few modifications) but the delta ring causes the RIS to be slightly loose. Even with the two hex screws tightened to the fore cap, the RIS still shakes a little. Not enough to be annoying, just a little. I have corrected this problem by attaching a larger RIS riser mount and extending it from the flattop to the RIS allowing the rigid body to act as a stabiliser for the RIS. Works perfect and looks good too. The gun looks awesome and functions flawlessly.

What can I say Hector... I remember your first game. Jeez you got hooked so fast. You were a maniac. I always liked being shot by you cuz you apologized for it like it was something you didn't want to do (what a load of crap!). I always had my back to you so it would be easier for you to shoot me or John (what another load of crap!) Aw crap, just face it... you were good. Via con Dios mi hermano! Lo Dio bendiga.

Nice "e-zine". Good topics, but it doesn't seem to go any deeper than the information I can already get online. Somebody who can get the inside scoop on the newle attaching a m203 to a MP5 are:

a) The weight needs to be distributed through the frame of the gun because it may result in barrel wobble.  If you have a full metal body and the G&G RIS is all metal, I'm pretty sure this won't be a problem.

b) The barrel of the M203 needs to be shortened which I've heard can be difficult.  Otherwise the M203 sticks way out from the end of your gun (depending on which MP5 you have -- supposedly it looks better on an SD).

An alternative would be the new MM mini launcher.  It too fits on a rail and is far more reasonably sized for an MP5.  The only downfall is that it only takes the MM "shower" grenades that fire 165 bbs at a time.  Reportedly, these are extremely effective close quarters but lack distance.  You can see one attached to an MP5 here: http://www.caw.co.jp/mosquito/minilauncher/index.html

Just a quick reply to both questions... If you look at the Redwolf site under GBB's/KSC, they have a column which indicates the best type of gas to use. They have done a lot of research on this matter and their opinion holds credible value to me. Also, I personally own two KSC GBB's. A Glock 18 and an M11. I use green gas (roughly equivalent to HFc22) in both of them with no ill effects. I'm not sure about the G19 though. Metal slides add good weight to the gun and make a nice metallic sound when you rack it, but the loss in cyclic ROF doesn't justify the expense (IMHO). HFc134a would cycle a metal slide fine, however the loss in energy and ROF would probably be detrimental on the battlefield. And, let's face it. Sure we want to look good out there. But where the rubber meets the road is in firepower. I have tried both HFc22 and HFc134a in my Glock 18 (totally stock mind you), and the cyclic did not change noticably. What I did notice however, was range and power (joules or velocity). So for me, I keep my KSC's stock (just the way they came from the factory), and fill'em with green gas, and heaven help the poor bas@#$d who gets in the way. Just my opinion though.

I don't know where to get it, but when you find out... I want one!
(I only hope they don't utilize that piece of crap "magna" blowback system the Hk Tactical uses. I have nothing but trouble with those mags). Keep us informed. It looks pretty cool.

Unfortunately, it's extremely difficult to control the velocities of the BB's with a powder driven device like this. Some BB's may just pop out at around 100 to 400 fps, while most will probably zing out around 600 to 800 or more (fps). Of course, this is largely dependent on the size of the actuating charge and the strength of the frangible shell (body). Needless to say, those velocities could put a serious hurt on you or your opponant. I sympathize with you though. A good grenade can really add some excitement to the party.

Thanks for visiting Lee. I visited your site. Quite impressive. Welcome to Airsoft Arizona. Interestingly enough, I couldn't think of a more antithetical comparison of play than Alaska and Arizona. It's like two polar opposites. However, even with the snow, we can typically play year round. And during the brutally hot summer months, we just go to the mountains. Anyway, stop by often and let us know whats happening in your neck of the woods.
