Site Suggestions / Re: AirsoftAZ forum Title

I prefer the conservative layout and style to the crazy over-the-top themes that many airsoft forums employ.

Simple and effective with nothing to distract me from the content.

Most of those sites you linked to are gaudy and some are nearing the point of causing physical pain to my eyes. ;)

What is this, an emphasis on content and not presentation?! What a strange concept!!!!

AA looks best plain.

An AK is just fine for CQB, but if you wish to buy a new rifle, go for an M4 carbine/commando.

Stay away from PDW type weapons, like the P90, MP7, MP5K, as they were not designed for assault teams.

Actually man I hate to say it but the simple fact that they aren't designed for assault teams is the entire reason to use them!

The average infantry rifle needs to engage targets out to 500 yards. (m16 famas aug etc)

Airsoft comes no where near that distance. Short weapons work just as well for field play if you can use manueverability to your advantage, with minimal loss of range in airsoft terms. Plus the Mp5/MP7/Other pistol caliber weapons have smaller mags meaning they are less bulky on your person. Less bulky means more mags.

First spending some money on GOOD gear is worth the investment. I have cammies that have lasted nearly four years now. Next get gear, a tactical vest is well worth the investment because it sets you far apart from everyone else sticking mags in pockets. It also will make life a hell of a lot easier cause it gets your weight onto your midsection instead of pulling on your clothes.

Get mids for magazines, mag AK mids go for under ten bucks a pop and they are normally 140 round capacity. 6 of those is all you should need, and they will work a hell of a lot better then ANY high cap.

Avoid messing with your gearbox or anything else until you have the cash to get good upgrades. Throwing shit into your gun just gets you more shit.

Also don't forget to plan to buy a few batteries, decent bbs, and a GOOD sling. Cheap two point slings (like the ones sold with a lot of guns) don't help you at all. They don't let you carry your gun any better, nor do they create a more stable platform for firing (when you sling in) and if you rely on a shit sling it is going to end up with your gun getting dropped.

I have to go through something similar.  Every day I have to wade through mountains of stupid posts on forums by kids who feel it necessary to share their personal life on the internet like they think we care.

Xavier this made my day cause I really wanted to say something really mean until I read this.

Troubleshooting / Re: CA m15a4 sportline

Check his wiring and fuse. Depending on the wiring and fuse there could be an insufficent amount of power getting to your motor to cycle the weapon, however this would be overcome by a LIPO and a 9.6v

You know Axis, he has to tease the zombies before he shoots them in the head.

I am just picturing you whipping out three guns, first one shoots BBs at the undead. Second shoots 8mm BBs (for that increased annoyance factor) and then your assault rifle starts laying out copper coated candy :D

ahhh my reply magically disappeared! WTF!

I really like the M14 for a DMR, it is what I am running now. The full length Match barrel and some good internals means that you can outrange pretty much every one else with a AEG, while still being able to close and do horrible mean things to your snipers and other guys with support type weapons (IE RPK/L86 types)

I recommend going for a M16A1 though instead of the M14. It is lighter, and when it comes to mounting optics (something that is only marginally useful but still nice) it is a lot easier and a lot lighter. The standard M14 side saddle mount weighs 8 pounds or so. You still have the full stock on the M16A1, and you also still have a good length barrel.

The quality and consistency you need for a DMR is to the point that I don't recommend trying to do it "on the cheap" because it only leads to heartache. You need a very consistent set up to get your FPS to be a high consistent speed since most DMRs don't get any extra FPS bonuses. My M14 shoots 397 EVERY shot. This kind of consistency is the only way to try and DMR.

If you want to try and stick to an ECHO and DMR take a look at their AUGs. I shot an A2 for a while and had really really good luck with it. I would advise that if you pick up an M14 you take the full length one. The Socom looks cool, but it really doesn't have the barrel length to play DMR without a barrel extension/silencer.

Carbon I will let you empty a mag into me (standard) if you come out in cosplay.

And you have to play the whole day in it too.

I think nearly half of airsoft started playing wanting to be a 1337 OMG Snipzorz.

Then they realised sniping in airsoft is the most frustrating thing in the world.

Crono I was in the middle of the desert, and furthermore what the fuck is the point of carrying a gun if you don't have the balls to use it?! For crying out loud there is NO point in carrying a gun to "show you aren't to be fucked with" at all! The point of a gun is to defuse a situation as quickly as possible by ventilating the opfor. Period.

I have a few rifles, and a rather nice 870 with a 9+1 capacity, all of which would work perfectly. The problem is that I can't carry around my remington 870 like I can a handgun.

It isn't about the weapons you have, it's all about the weapons you have ON YOU!

And Vince, I am asking because I know how many people on this forum carry. To be honest I think I would get a better answer here then if I went to a gun store or even a strictly gun forum.

I like when people say 'to be honest'. It makes me feel like they are normally dishonest and this unabated honesty is a step out of their comfort zone.

I think if you think you're going to get good gun advice from this forum, and you're getting answers that include firearms that shoot a 5.7mm round for personal defense, you're getting what you deserve.

What happens when a shot you fire from your 5.7mm handgun overpenetrates and kills somebody else?

You are such a bastion of happiness and positivity Vince. Really I think that overpenetration is just as likely with a JHP .45 or 9mm as it is with the Five Seven shooting anything BUT the military/LE only armor piercing rounds. Those are a totally different subject altogether.

In my honest opinion the actual round itself matters more for (over)penetration then the caliber. Also I want to point out that having a weapon that can penetrate cover is not a bad idea at all. How many of us hike, camp, off road and the like. What happens if you have to take a shot at someone taking cover behind something like a car engine? Penetration does have a place in considering weapon and the round you will be carrying.

If the person I'm shooting at is hiding behind a car... chances are this is no longer a self-defense situation. If they're taking cover, it sounds more like they have withdrawn from the confrontation... I suppose there are some circumstances in which that would be useful though, i.e. they pull a gun, try to shoot you, miss. Followed by you taking a shot, missing, and them running for cover before firing again? Or maybe someone is trying to assassinate you and botches their shot? It might just be that I'm not very creative in handgun-defense scenarios, but I really can't think of any realistic time you (as a civilian) would need to shoot through cover unless you are the aggressor, or involved in some very shady dealings.

If you want to penetrate hard targets, but not penetrate soft targets... a round like the .357sig is reported to be a great choice. And when used with a hollowpoint, is supposedly still extremely effective at stopping people, very similar to a .357mag or .45acp in stopping power iirc.

Actually I had a very specific scenario in mind when I wrote that. I have been out shooting, packed up and started leaving, and had someone start following me. We weren't at a range, and just in the way he was driving I took it to be aggressive. This is the kind of thing that can't really be explained in text, but I just WASN'T comfortable. I had a .22 but I didn't feel like the .22 had the stopping/penetration power I wanted if I needed to shoot into his vehicle (should he brandish a weapon in my direction/start shooting) This is a situation where I want high penetration, and to be honest I also do consider this to be one of the few times I have felt like I wanted to carry a handgun.

I am sure all of the more experienced CCW holders are going to rip into me now, but hey like I said, I wasn't comfortable, and that alone is reason enough to want a weapon that will defeat a little cover.
