Lubrication Alternative
« on: May 21, 2010, 10:11:45 AM »
I wrote this in another section, but thought it belonged better here so I posted a new thread hoping people would read it and comment on what they thought.

A friend turned me on to some bio-based lubricant called "LubriMagic" all purpose lube and penetrant made by a company called LubriMatic Green. I found it at Lowes near the other penetrants and such. The can is huge (12 oz.), has a green lid, and cost about $6.00. The label doesn't say it is silicone based, but it is. (The junk smells like a bag of used condoms!...Takes me back to college...lol) Make sure and wash it off your hands!! It does say that it is biodegradable, but also toxic.

I've tested it on all sorts of plastic and rubber without any damage. It has excellent lubrication properties and works just like regular airsoft silicone spray except it seems to be a bit more viscous, which wasn't a problem. I have used it to clean and lubricate my AEG and GBB after several skirmishes without any complication. I have also used it to lube up and repair a plastic AK magazine that was all boogered up and had a seized internal spring from using petro-based lubricants in it before i knew they sucked. This demonstrates LubriMagic's ability to lubricate plastic without damage. It didn't hurt my hopup, and it is cheap. Thus, I am impressed enough to suggest that others try it out.

The other topic this was posted in switched topics to cell phones or something...WTF is a droid? I figured people would just stop reading it, so I posted a new topic. Is this incorrect or considered bad forum etiquette?

Thanks for posting that. How long have you been using the lube?

I have used it for months now. I used it long enough to see if plastic and rubber would degrade from lengthened exposure to it. I tested it at first on all kinds of plastics and an old bucking. All it did is lube. It leaves no chalky residue or corrosion like the effects of petro-based silicone spray that I have seen.

lots of petroleum products even won't harm some orings and hopup buckings that are made from true synthetics instead of rubber compounds.

but... almost all airsoft orings and 'just a random bucking' seems to indicate more than likely rubber was used. :D
I'll stick with my 3 tubes of different viscosity/composition lubes for my gearboxes and 100% silicon spray for my gbb's, but it's great to know that there's something else out there when I want to airsoft after the zombie apocalypse!

You know Axis, he has to tease the zombies before he shoots them in the head.

I am just picturing you whipping out three guns, first one shoots BBs at the undead. Second shoots 8mm BBs (for that increased annoyance factor) and then your assault rifle starts laying out copper coated candy :D

The bucking I used was a stock CYMA bucking from my CM.050. It is most likely just rubber like you said. Who makes synthetic buckings? I used a bit in my current hop setup which includes a systema bucking. It works perfectly still.

guarder. firefly. the 'clear silicone' buckings aren't rubber.
