Field/CQB guns
« on: July 22, 2010, 09:07:27 PM »
I've been thinking about getting a gun that can be used in field games and CQB games. I play mostly field, but at cowtown, there is a CQB area and an AK47 doesn't work there. I also plan on going to Vanguard. So, what guns can do this? I know an M4 can, but M4's are more than common. I've been thinking a FAMAS can, since it appears to have the same barrel length as an M4. But, what others are there?

Side folding AK.

There is no reason to have a super short gun for CQB, change your mindset and tactics. It is better to be able to out range people between buildings than to worry about having too long of a gun.

if you want as short of a gun as you can, use a pistol... or better yet, a speedloader.

But yeah... just learning how to go around corners a different way can definitely be more than effective with a full size gun.

Apparently you don't understand.

A. pistols work fine in field games.

B. full size rifles, especially those with folding or collapsible stocks are fine for cqb.

They both just take a little adjustment and know-how.

Side note: Bullpups take longer to reload for most people, and so might not be the best option in cqb if you don't use hicaps, as most people spray like crazy in cqb... it's a nasty habit to get into.

I suggest a Steyr Aug, F2000, or P90. All are not THAT common. And upgrades are readily available for each of them.

The only reason I got a rifle is because my handgun didn't shoot across the field. so.....

An AK is just fine for CQB, but if you wish to buy a new rifle, go for an M4 carbine/commando.

Stay away from PDW type weapons, like the P90, MP7, MP5K, as they were not designed for assault teams.

..Looking at the pictures of the CQB indoor field at Vanguard and espscially for a limited ammo game like the Zombie one coming up, I think a good pistol is going to be more useful than even a smg.

The ranges will be close, and in you can play a agressive shoot and move game, the pistol and a extra mag will get most of the use.

Outside of concealment and speed, an AK-anything is okay. -Just don't stand in one place too long.

I would suggest a pistol. It will not only teach but also force you to conserve your BB's. And then you could just use the pistol as a secondary in the field :P. But if you don't have an airsoft gun in the first place I would go with an mp5. They are a medium size with good power, accuracy, and range.

Actually man I hate to say it but the simple fact that they aren't designed for assault teams is the entire reason to use them!

The average infantry rifle needs to engage targets out to 500 yards. (m16 famas aug etc)

Airsoft comes no where near that distance. Short weapons work just as well for field play if you can use manueverability to your advantage, with minimal loss of range in airsoft terms. Plus the Mp5/MP7/Other pistol caliber weapons have smaller mags meaning they are less bulky on your person. Less bulky means more mags.

I wonder why no one mentioned my favorite AK variant: the AKs74u? It is short like a PDW and has high capacity and good range as well as a huge possiblity for upgrade. Mine is built up for CQB with a custom RIS handguard to hold flashlight, grip, etc. and a trigger master mosfet for 3rd burst. Yay for the AK! Get one.

Trying to stay on topic, Mil-Sim means simulating actual military combat. Even though you cannot completely simulate the real thing and budgets may be tight, measures are taken to make the experience as close to the real thing as possible. Deliberately purchasing a non-military weapon like the mp7 because it is lighter/cooler than the M4 even though they both have the same price and the same maximum effective range, is a habit developed from speedballers and LARP mages; it may be conducive to Metal-Gear-Solid-Sim, but not Mil-Sim.
