Multicam Stigma, use at games, effectiveness, etc.
« on: June 13, 2011, 10:07:42 AM »
I'm attempting to slowly turn my rag-tag group of Sunday airsofters into a team and my first step is switching from MARPAT to Multicam and making M4 mags both standards for the team. During this phase I'll also attempt to organize them into an assault team, fire team, weapons team, and sniper/recon team. Also I use an L85A2 and since the British version of multicam hasn't hit the market, this is as close as I'll get.

Anyway, my questions about multicam are as follows.

Is there a certain disdain/stigma associated with these?

Are these allowed at most if not all games as an acceptable uniform?

Does Multicam work in super green environments such as Michigan? (I go there ever summer and its important that these at least work).

Have you ever personally had an experience with multicam that made you feel its was a useless pattern?

If we purchase these, what brand should be go with and where might I locate them for a good price online?

If you have any other information to provide in regards to multicam I'd appreciate it. Most of the hits on google have made me feel as though this is a working camouflage in enviroments in Arizona as well as Michigan, however I know cameras just don't work the same as the human eye.

Multicam is exaclty that Multi Camo. When you go to michigan its should work just as good as it does here. Most games it is expectable all depends on where you play to see what team they put you on (Green or Tan). I have used multicam since it was released and honeslty everywhere I have played it blends great just about anywhere. I have a set of TRU for my Combat shirt and pants, they are decent quality and are very comfortable.

My experience with multi-cam is similar.  Worked good in both AZ and CO, low and high country (so, flat and grassy, as well as heavily wooded areas).  You would do better with an actual woodland pattern in the thicker wooded areas out east, but it wont stand out like the ACU Digital does.

Thank you, that was exactly what I was looking for. So the Tru Spec's are good quality or should I shell out the cash for the more legitimate manufacturers?

Is there any real advantage going with the real spec stuff? Aside from fading slightly faster over time, I've had zero issues with my MARPAT Tru Spec replicas.

Ah, good idea! Thanks! I do have a MARPAT shirt for hot weather, but I'll look into a multicam as well. Probably may even go with an under armor shirt even if its only in tan/OD.

Working in a meat cooler really screws with my body's ability to handle heat.

I have put my TruSpec Multi-Cam pants through their paces.  10 months of pretty active use, I believe, airsoft and yard work, and they are still in good shape.  Other pants I have picked up (black, tan, and a woodland) split the first month I had them.

I hope the A-tacs stuff I get holds up as well.  Very little fade too.

Thank you. The fade and rip factors were what I was mainly concerned about. Both sets of mine and my brother's old Tru Specs faded really quickly. The new ones seem to be doing fine, however my brother's ripped at the crotch...

P.S. Does anyone know where I can get tops and bottoms in Multicam for cheap? I'd actually prefer BDU style rather than ACU as I'm not a fan of velcro or zippers.
