Halloween Woes. Or why were there no open fields on Halloween?!
« on: October 31, 2013, 08:44:06 PM »
So... today's been, meh to say the least.

After getting my hands on nearly $500 of new gear, I was excited. My gear came in the mail, I got it, I was ready to go. I hit online and checked the two best options I had for airsoft on thursday. VIP and Tempe Airsoft/paintball.

Everything looked good [though apparently I entirely overlooked the fact that both sites were closed today.] So I hopped in my car with my roommate, called a buddy, and we were ready for a night of shooting people with small plastic pellets... a night that didn't happen.

It's not often I like to complain about business practices... and I like to support my local shops, but why the heck, was everything closed on Halloween? ESPECIALLY when everywhere on your sites mentions that you're "normally" open on Thrusdays from 5-11... What changed with Halloween? What exempted a great day, that could have been some awesome, costumed fights, and instead ended up with disappointment?

I'm just curious, now don't get me wrong I TOTALLY understand wanting a day off, but frankly information on this kind of thing should have been placed in the "Hours" area of the site. Apon review, I find that I was quite obviously blind [save for the fact that VIP's site has the fact that they are closed on a rotating banner, that's easily missed if you look away for a couple of seconds.]

It's a crime we missed some epic chances for themed games tonight guys... and I was soo ready to spend money at one of these two places.

I posted this last week: http://www.airsoftarizona.com/index.php?topic=37173.0

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it might be that people want to go to a costume party or take their kids trick or treating (or, in Vanguard's case, most of their players were out trick or treating), so both places realized that they would have a small to nonexistent crowd.

If you wanted costumed gameplay seems you weren't paying attention to either VIP or Tempe Airsoft and Paintball. TAP had a zombie themed game (with strobe lights, fog machines, ect.) two weeks ago put on by the Department of Zombie Defense. Human players faced off against costumed staff in full out zombie costumes. VIP had a Silent Hill themed lock in (though, I would assume they toned/dumbed it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down for the kiddos) last week.

That would have been great, had I not already had things going on when those other games were happening.

I think there would be a bigger turnout than expected, especially on Halloween days that end up on a normal, functioning day/school night like a Thursday.

I mean, if there was a long weekend or something this would have made sense. Or if Halloween was a Federal Holiday... but neither of those things were happening. So it just seems weird to stop business for basically a random thursday.

You're joking, right? This is like asking why people don't go to the movies during the Super Bowl.

I go to movies during the super bowl, because screw football.

Seriously though, not everyone does this whole "It's X day, everyone does Y" yeah no...not everyone does that, and I can almost guarentee there would have been players on site.

All I hear is bitching! WAAAAA WAAAAAAAAAA Banks arent upon on sundays and no one is catering to my airsoft needs on the holidawwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I hit up Tap every thursday, I would not have gone last night.

What was preventing you from opening and financing your own indoor airsoft arena? And using it on holidays?

Or just playing with your (Friends, one friend?, self?)

What did you do on Halloween before indoor airsoft?

Yeah I was whining a bit.

What did I do before I found indoor airsoft.. simple I sat on my ass, played videogames and ignored the world around me. Or I sat around and watched horror movies and got drunk... or I did one of any number of other things.

The fact of the matter was, I actually wanted some social interaction in a fun environment on a day that normally would have been a standard business day. Your bank "Example" falls flat, we expect banks to be closed on sundays, just as we expect Airsoft fields to be closed on Mondays/Tuesdays... it's the nature of the business. My complaint here, was that on what would have normally been an "Open" day for airsoft arena's, EVERYTHING was instead closed. Under the guise of "It's a holiday guys!"

This would have been easy to accept if Halloween was considered a federal holiday, or a typically recognized holiday where many other businesses close. It just seems odd to me that pretty much every AO was closed on a "holiday" that is not recognized federally. Or even by that many people at the end of the day.

Also getting together a private game of just 3 people, is kinda lame. yes everything was somewhat last minute. But you tell me you're not excited when you get a brand new set of weapons, and that you don't want to go out and use them as soon as possible Exarach.

That being said, things happen, I get that. And sometimes you have to blow off some steam. I'll get my chance sunday to put some hurt down. just a matter of waiting. Just sucks when it seems the rest of the world's falling down around you, and you just want to go out and blow off some steam ya know.

Last night at dusk, the Wife & I sat out in the driveway with a bowl of candy, a couple of glowing Jack O' Lanterns, and gave out goodies to about 50 kids..
By 8, it was dead, and I would DEFINATELY been in the mood to hit up Tempe..

Coulda done both, just sayin'..

The "guise"?  Are you trying to argue Halloween isn't a holiday?  It might not be a bank holiday, but you can't argue it's not a holiday.  The minors make up a hefty portion of the indoor fields client base.  The majority of minors go trick or treating on Halloween.  Therefore if you can make the reasonable assumption that the majority of your client base is going to be engaged in other activities, it doesn't make sense to waste money being open that day.

So its not just my neighborhood Mooncruiser, we only gave out half of our candy bowl by the handfuls. Seems like less and less people are celebrating Halloween in the traditional manner(taken up by parties). Sorry to change the subject lol.

You still are!

I get at least one new gun a week. Some have NEVER seen a game.

Everyone and there mother recognizes Halloween. Some of the largest corporations in the world hold festive events. I call 80+ of them a day, and everyone I talked to had some kind of festivity planned.

The use of Indoor fields is a privilege, not a right. The store didn't have the flavor you wanted Waaaaaa

We were notified at least a week+ prior that neither of these places was going to be open, its not our fault you can't read. Why didn't you plan a halloween game? Or a some type of event? If you knew it was going to be so popular. Or that you were getting new stuff.

OH, you can't play with your new toys..... oh no...oh dear....you poor poor thing, the world is probably going to end.

Not our, or Tempes, or Vanguards, or Whoevers fault you could be bothered to read the memo or call and ask.

Give it a rest.

YOU want a halloween game>? GO MAKE ONE!

Alright lets not feed the fire and beat it to a pulp. We get it, don't complain, its honestly not a big deal. From my experience last minute games hardly ever work out anyways. On that note, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
