The only thing that a "silencer" has any real noticable effect on is NBB pistols.  It will dampen the report but you will still have some noise.  NBB because you dont have the noise of the slide and all the gas is pushed out through the barrel along with the noise.

Sarge is right.  The noise on regular AEG's and GBB pistols will be different, but just as loud.  The only ones that really make a difference is on Non-Blow backs.

Doesnt the different noise make a difference at a distance becuase of pitch? that is my understanding of how a SUPRESSOR works(and the direction that it forces the gas[which makes the sound] goes). Please correct me if i'm wrong, i hate sounding completely stupid.

Really the only way to "suppress" an airsoft gun is to pad the gearbox which I've heard is a pain!

Like I said the noise will sound different.  But the sound of the piston pumping and the gears moving or the slide working will still be the loudest sound.  So the supressor will not be useful.

Silencers

I've heard from any different sources that silencers do not help much on AEGs. However I've never heard whether they help or not on GBBs.
