Well, I personally don't mind if you wear makred BDUs if they belong to someone(I use my fathers DCUs at games, and they have airforce ranks and markings on them). I wear my issued(I have about 6 pairs) BDUs that only have my name, and US Army on them, but you'll never catch me with ranks or earned patches(air assault, airborne, ranger, ect). But, I am in the military, so I have sort of earned them. You, are not, so if you were to do the same thing, it would be frowned upon. I suppose...

Ok...this is only my opinion and as such should only be taken as that.  No offense towards anyone person/unit/branch, etc.  And before you say I am someone that "...thinks they are military but are not." I spent 5 years in the Marine Corps and 7 months Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during Desert Shield/ Desert Storm. I believe I have earned the right to speak on something like this. And if you were to ask me back then...I would definately be bothered about someone wearing the Eagle Globe and Anchor that had not earned it.  However, I wouldnt have a problem if it meant that one more motivated individual would be playing.  Shoot, the first few games I played with AA I was wearing BDU's with an ANG patch (shudders) on it.  Do you think I would have cared if someone came up to me and said 'hey...did you earn that patch...or hey were you in the ANG?  I would have laughed in his face.  I guess what Im saying is most people wont say anything...and if they do who cares...  Most people involved with airsoft hold themselves to a higher standard and for the most part are very honorable.  It would be the respectful thing to do to take the patches off if you didnt earn them...and get some BDU's without patches when you can.  And I have a feeling that you being from a military family would have no problems removing them.  I mean...you had the presence of mind to ask and to me that shows respect about it right there...but then again being a Marine I dont consider the Air Force a part of the military...they're more like...TWA.  Haha....I am totally kidding!!!  I had the privelege to be flown over to the gulf in a C5.  Best flight I ever had!! And that Im not kidding!
Respectfully,
Rav

My stance is just don't wear them even if you were in the military, then conflicts like this would never happen in the first place. No one questions a man wearing "blank" BDUs with no patches or anything, but it seems a man wearing BDUs with patches, rank insignia, etc. will always draw attention.

Thanks for you opinion Ravnar.  I understand what you are saying.  As a member of a military family, i am aware of the honors and work involved in obtaining those patches.  Any man who earns a patch on his uniform also gains a bigger sense of pride.

I asked that question for two reasons.

1.)   Being that this is "airsoft," and most players are civilians who probably have nothing to do with the military, maybe patches on used BDU's wouldn't be an issue (but i'm not saying that civilians have no idea about the military and what the life is like).
2.)   Since "airsoft" can be used as a method of training because of the gun replication to simulate the use of a real one, then i'm sure there would in fact be some active duty servicemen who take part in these games for just that... milsim.  Because these men really are in the service and most likely have patches which signify his real life position, i'm sure that it may bother them if he saw a 16 year old kid wearing the stripes and patches of an officer.... or maybe it wouldn't.

As for respect... i treat everyone with respect.  Whether i know you or not... like you or not... i have respect for you.  I believe that giving respect earns you respect.  Know what i mean?  And if i ask dumb questions obtaining to rules and regulations of the games, it is because for one... i may not know the rules... and two, i respect the rules.  :)

The AO looks very interesting!  Can't wait to go!  :D

This isn't a new topic.

I moved the posts from the 21st game thread rather than deleting them.
