Blackhawk Tactical Gear
« on: October 12, 2006, 05:42:53 PM »
I searched and could not find much info, but i was wondering if anyone here used Blackhawk Tactical Gear, And if they did if it was worth the price that you have to pay for it. Any information that you could give me would be most appriciated. The reason i ask is because i am looking at getting one if their Omega VI Thigh Holsters and i was just curiouse what everyone else thought of them

Inferior materials, with designs badly copied from real gear makers, made fong kong.

That said, it is cheap, because that is the best word for it.

BLACK HAWK SUCKS! Self promoting S.O.B's they simply are not worth the price (about medium quality really) and to top it off they put their 800 number on nearly all the products they sell. As in stitched into, sewn into, emblazoned, embroidered... you name it...

Blah blah blah Blackhawk sucks Blah blah.

Blackhawk is one of the only gear businesses in the business of being in business.

That might not make sense, but they consistently have reasonably good gear, for usually a reasonable price, and, most importantly, they have it in stock.

That said, there is a LOT of gear out there much better than Blackhawk.  However, you will pay for it.  Sometimes a LOT.  Sometimes not that much more.

None of it's made in Hong Kong.  It's made in Vietnam. :)  Some newer stuff is being sewn in Korea, and they purchased a US sewing facility to take care of Berry Comliant orders.

Yes, they copy other designs, but there are only so many ways to sew a pouch.

Now, if you're still interested in an Omega holster, I have one I will sell for stupid cheap because I am clearing them out.  What gun is this for?

I also have one or two Safariland 6004 and a couple of Eagle SAS drop holsters, as well as the usual stock of High Speed Gear holsters.

It all boils down to what you want to spend.

Props for Tactical Tailor. They've got AWESOME stuff.

A good gear distributor is www.optactical.com They carry all of the major brands of gear for, somtimes, less that what the producer sells it for. They do have blackhawk but...well, we won't go there.

I have nothing really negative to say about blackhawk. One thing I do like is that lack of a need for MALICE clips on their pouches due to a sewn on MALICE-like attachment. However, the make/look/price of many other types of gear have served me much better in the past.

Just some food for thought.

Unless and item is a very hot seller and in short supply, or the manufacturer has imposed some minimum advertising price policy (MAPP), most retailers will sell gear for below the MSRP.  Reason? Because in most cases, the manufacturer does not want to under-cut their dealer network.

Manufacturers who do undercut their dealers soon find out dealers will have nothing to do with them.  Blackhawk did this with some of their discontinued items, making some of the inventory I (and likely other dealers) had immediately un-sellable due to the prices we originally paid for it.  For this reason, there is only one line of Blackhawk's gear that I carry, their MOLLE line.

People can bash Blackhawk all they want, but the fact is that they have serviceable gear and somewhat reasonable pricing and, more importantly, they have it in stock.  When you get a call from a military unit or individual who is deploying within 2 weeks, they need gear now, not 8-10 weeks because some smaller company can't keep up with demand, even if their gear is 10x better quality.
