Thanks Raith :)

Sarge, I don't really have to worry about resale because I can sell it to one of my friends here in Havasu.

What I meant by that is it would be uneven. It would feel wierd to have my stomach covered, but not my chest. I want either nothing covered, or everything. I'm thinking of going with a Vietnam-type setup. Either the belt and harness or that big puffy vest that the guy in Platoon wears, anyone know what one that is?

    I tried.

You're on your own now, kid.  Maybe Surplus Boy can help you from here.

Dude,

Just what are you trying to do?  The mission should dictate your gear, not the other way around.

If you're going for re-enactment / "impression" (as they call it in the UK), then get the stuff that matches the time period your replicating.

If you're trying to just carry stuff for games, figure out what you want to carry, then determine what you want to get from that.

Stay away from TAC-FORCE.  You'd be better off with USGI surplus, IMO.  However I will tell you, that trying to save money by purchasing crap gear, or gear that is merely adequate, will mean you end up spending MORE in the long run buying the stuff you should have gotten from the beginning.

However, as most of us have done, we didn't listen either.  Instead, we purchased knock-offs and shit, and ended up disappointed.

"Buy quality and you'll only cry once."

If you need some inexpensive gear while you save your scheckels to purchase good stuff, go USGI for a while...it's reaily availalble, and won't (usually) fall apart.

Also, buy the best , most comfortable footwear you can afford.  You will thank me for this piece of advice some day.

Just a little disclaimer in case some brainiac is reading this thread and likes the idea of the flak jacket-

IT IS NOT BODY ARMOR.
If you get shot wearing it, you will die.

That said, most surplus stores carry them for way more than they are worth, but you shouldn't have a hard time finding one.

Holy Sh*t Jamie, I just spit iced coffe on my monitor!    That's some good stuff.

Wraith, TimW and Greg are dead-on.  Another note about body armor - it's heavy!  If you're going to lug around all that weight, make it be for something cool like a CIRAS with plates or a loaded RAID.  Wearing a flak jacket will not only look silly as hell, but will be heavy and you'll want to quit sooner.  That means one less person for me to shoot, which = not cool.

BTW nice to see you posting again TimW.

His advance should be good...after all he is a tactical gear retailer..

Tim has always given me good advice though, even if there were some milf jokes in between the lines of advice

Buy it from whoever can give you the best deal.  If that's PT, great!

I just bought a Low-Vis RACK, level 3 from Diamondback today for 50 bucks.  I'll get some pics here pretty quick.  It holds 6 mags, modular front, very compact.

It might be another option for you, but expect to pay a little more than I did unless you sign oyur life away to Uncle Sam within the next few days. :P

Retail is like 65, which is still VERY resonable.  They have Ranger Green in stock! 8)

The low vis RACK?  Looks like a knock off of my Hellcat.  I love the thing, its simple, holds everytihng I need, and it fits me just right.  I always felt like I was one step behind you gear wise Sarge, but I beat you to this one!

On that note, the hellcat is a little more expensive but if its for airsoft Id say the low vis rack should do you just fine.  The bib portion on most set ups I have had only made it harder to remove the mags being held directly below it.  Ill be putting the hellcat though some training in a few weeks to the tune of 16 days of constant use...Ill let yall know how it works out.
