Local Games Listing/RSVP / OP: Hornet's Nest LOST AND FOUND FORUM
« on: August 26, 2010, 06:22:03 PM »
Quite a few items were left behind when we departed Payson and ended up at Gearbox Airsoft waiting for their owners to claim them. If you are missing a particular item, please send me a pm with a DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE MISSING ITEM and we'll do our best to return it to you. Please give as detailed a description as possible, as many people might try to claim the same item. We have no real way to determine ownership other than the information you provide to us and will do our best to put the right item with the proper owner.

Gearbox Airsoft is once again hosting one of the infamous C.A.T.A.S.S. (Combat, Airsoft, Tactical, And Surplus Sales) on Sunday, September 26th. If you're unfamiliar with the sale, it's an excuse for quite a few of us on here to unload old gear, equipment, guns, etc. as well as meet many players from the area in person in an environment that doesn't require us shooting at each other in mock combat!

To allow more room for the sale and purchasers, we will once again be using the National Guard Armory, located just east of University and Rural, on the north side of the road. Drive to the north side of the building and you'll see where we are, just inside the bay doors. We're taking up the upper floor, and should have even more sellers than last time.

There will be a few tables available to use, but if you're planning on bringing multiple items then bring your own tables or something to put them on. Also, please keep track of the items you bring, as I'm sure there will be some similarities and we don't want things getting mixed up. Please RSVP in this thread if you need to reserve a table, or table space.

Post in this thread if you have any other questions.

OP: Hornet's Nest Player Pack

Basic Rules:

- All weapons to be used during the event will be chronographed before gameplay, by game organizers, using the same standard .25g bb for every weapon tested. The official chronograph used for OP: Hornet's Nest will be the XCORTECH X3200.

- Chronograph testing will be accomplished before gameplay begins, starting Friday at 2:00pm and ending before gameplay begins at 7:00am on Saturday morning. Non-chronographed weapons will not be allowed for use on the field during designated gameplay hours.

No trash is to be left behind at the camping areas or on the field itself. Trash bags and cans will be provided and scattered around the camping area. As a general rule, IF YOU PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT.

- Drum/C-Mag style magazines are restricted to SAW/belt-fed type weapons only. There are no high capacity (winding) magazine restrictions in effect for standard AEGs.

- There is no limit to the amount of ammunition/BBs that you may carry. Carry all that you desire on your person, as you may not return to your vehicle or camping area once gameplay begins.

- ANSI Z87-rated eye protection is required at all times while on the field. NO SHOOTING AT ALL within the camp site area is allowed. Please test fire your weapons in the designated areas only.

- No electronic warfare. Do not scan enemy frequencies nor bring devices that can scramble radio signals.

- Emergency channel is 1 flat, callsign “HQ." Emergency issues that take place on the field must be known to all players in the immediate area by screaming out the command "BLINDMAN," as well as a notification given via radio. This is a common and universal signal to end a scenario in the case of an emergency only, and not as a way to take a break, reload, eat lunch, etc. Once the BLINDMAN call is given, the game is considered OVER until the emergency situation is dealt with accordingly. Only the game staff/organizers may restart the game once the BLINDMAN call is given. Stand by with your weapon on safe until you receive further instructions.

Any safety and/or integrity violators will be instructed to leave the site immediately, and could face permanent banning from all future events.

- NO SMOKE or PYRO of any kind will be allowed. We are under fire restriction for the duration of our stay in the National Forest. This includes fires within the camp. Stoves, lanterns and generators are not restricted and may be used, but please exercise caution when doing so.

Smoking is allowed while on the field and in the campsite, but be mindful of the fire dangers. Stamp out and fully extinguish all burning embers/butts/etc. and dispose of them properly, leaving no trace of trash or fire dangers.

Surrender / Parlay Rules:

- You may surrender an opponent from BEHIND ONLY. Call for a surrender if you are too close to make a safe shot on the player, which may result in possible injury. Typical "bang bang" rules apply, and must be less than 20 feet from the rear of the opposing player.

- If you find yourself in a situation that you feel is "too close" to shoot/engage with your weapon you may call out for a parlay, meaning to back off from the initial engagement, usually about 50 - 75 feet, and reengaging from the new, longer (and possibly safer) distance. Not all players will be willing to stop and disengage, so please use this rule only in a situation that you deem unsafe, and not as a way to gain a possible false tactical advantage. Always remember to think SAFETY FIRST, and that this IS ONLY A GAME.

Removing yourself from any situation in which you are not comfortable is always a better option than getting injured.

Please be aware that the "surrendered" player may still turn and shoot back, and not want to take a "bang bang" hit, wishing instead to be shot. Do your best to aim for an area that will result in minimal damage, and push forward, knowing that you tried your best to do the right (and honorable!) thing.

FPS Requirements

- Semi and Full Auto AEG’s cannot exceed 375fps with a .25g bb.

- Sniper rifles may not shoot over 525fps with a .25g BB, and must be SINGLE SHOT ONLY. Please note that "single shot" is not the same as semi-auto, and refers mostly to bolt action or pump action weapons.

- Grenades, launchers, claymores, and explosives will not be used in this game unless directed specifically by staff to do so. There is a reason for this rule that will be discussed at a later time.

- BIO BBs, while not required for this event, are still highly encouraged as we would like to be able to use areas like this in the future. Try to remember to leave as small of an environmental impact as possible.

Sniper/Marksman Specific Requirements:

- All snipers must observe a 50 ft.minimum no-shoot limit.
- Snipers are limited to one sniper/one spotter per squad of ten players, allowing for       a maximum of three designated marksmen per team.
- Snipers must, at the minimum, have a spotter with a non-sniper rifle with them at all times. This includes when they're embedded within their squad. This is to help the marksman maintain the 50 ft. no-engagement limit.

CLEANUP:

All camping areas are considered to be in pristine order, and must be in that condition when we are done and gone. At the end of the day, all BBs and trash will need to be removed from the camping/gaming areas. Each player should help clean the areas used (it’s really not that difficult).  Game organizers and “range control” will inspect and make sure the entire area is clear of garbage/trash before exiting for campground. While not considered mandatory to help with the clean up, it is greatly appreciated as we would like to continue to use areas such as these in the future. Those that do stay and help will be looked upon kindly and earn the respect of their community. And possibly rewarded.

Gameplay Specifics:

- Each team (Green and Tan) will have roughly 30 participants each, broken down into 3 10-man squads, each with an embedded advisor that will fight as a part of your team. They are not considered to be a leader of your squad, as their primary concern is to convey information via radio commands from the HQ and to settle any possible rule disputes that may arise. Feel free to ask them any game related questions and have them fight for you just as any member of your squad would be expected.

- Each squad may be supported by up to 2 support/SAW weapons.

- Each team may have up to 3 sniper/spotter elements.

- Each player must carry a red wound/death rag - Once a player is shot/hit, he must lie in place with the rag visible, until the firefight has moved far enough away that the player may make a safe exit to either respawn or be "healed" through their squads' current specific rules.

- Respawn/Medic rules will differ from squad to squad, and from scenario to scenario throughout the day. Don't not call other players "out," as their particular rules may differ from your own at the time of the incident. Please direct all inquiries to the staff/advisor embedded within your squad with any questions pertaining to the rules or game design.

- When under medic rules, a wounded player may be “dragged” into safety, where another player may apply first aid as dictated by their current scenario. Talk to your advisor if you have any questions.

- After tying on a “bandage”, the wounded player is respawned and can carry on as normal.  Even though respawned, keep the bandage on until shot again. Depending on the scenario, the player may get another bandage, or have to go to a respawn point, as dictated by the current scenario.

- If no one can reach the wounded player, they must lie in place until bandaged by friendly players or until 5 full minutes have elapsed. At the end of 5 minutes of waiting, go to the last known respawn point, remove the bandages, and reenter the game as normal.

UPDATED AS OF AUGUST 12th 2010

When: Friday, August 13th, Saturday, August 14th, & Sunday, August 15th

Where: Sharp Creek Campground, Manzanita Group Camping Site (Site #1)
According to Google Maps, the AO is 104 miles from Gearbox Airsoft, an approximate 2 hour drive. We've been to the area and believe any “regular” car can make it to the camping area easily.  The site features well maintained dirt roads once you pull off of highway 260, all of the way until you stop at the paved parking area.

Price: $50.00 per player, 75 player limit (35 players on green team, 35 players on tan, 5 player/staff)

AGE Limit: This event will be 18 and over. We know we have many underage players that would like to attend, but unfortunately this is out of our hands for the time being. Hopefully we can accommodate you guys in the near future at other events.

FPS Limits: 375fps w/ .25g for Full/Semi Auto, 525fps w/ .25g for Bolt Action/Single Shot Models
UPDATED NOTE: Apparently, there has been a bit of a misunderstanding of what types of weapons fall into the "Bolt Action/Single Shot Model" category listed above, so I'll do my best to provide some examples. A weapon allowed to shoot at 525fps w/ a .25g BB  MUST only be able to shoot one shot per cycle before having to reset the action, as in a bolt action sniper rifle, or a single shot pump-action style shotgun. Semi Automatic is not in this category, regardless of modifications made to the weapon. A Tokyo Marui PSG-1, A Classic Army or other SR-25, a DMR, or an M14 is still an AEG and semi automatic, falling under the 375fps w/.25g rules, not the higher fps. Marksman/Sniper Rifles will be limited to 1 per squad, as they will be of limited use due to the terrain of the field. Contact Ron if you have further questions regarding fps limits. Sorry if this caused any confusion.

Uniform Requirements: Any variation of  green uniform vs. Any variation of Tan uniform (NOTE: For this event, Multicam will be considered part of the Green Team, ACU/UCP will be considered part of the Tan Team.) This has been changed from the original statement, due to player/staff comments and based on the actual field terrain. Please make note of the changes and plan accordingly.

35 Players Per Team (3 Squads of 10 Players, 3 player/advisors, 2 additional people to be used as their team sees fit. Either add them to a squad for additional support, create a command element, or as a recon/sniper team)

NOTE: Uniform requirements refers to the color of the clothing only, and does not reflect the color of gear worn with the uniform. Headgear (ball caps, helmets, boonies, etc.) must match the uniform color, not the gear color.

EXAMPLE: If you're on the green team, wearing woodland BDUs, your cover/hat/helmet must also be green. Want to wear coyote tan gear with it? You're still on the green team. Call or email Gearbox Airsoft if you have any questions regarding uniforms.

Included in the price of admission:
Friday Night Raffle Prizes to Early Registrants (Available to people that arrive and set up between 2pm - 7pm)
Saturday Morning Breakfast Before Deployment
One Full Day of Intense Airsoft Action (Featuring multiple scenarios that can alter events and cause repercussions throughout the day. Plan on being in the field no less than 8 hours at a time, so plan accordingly. Also, please remember to pack your own lunch to eat during the day, as the staff will not be providing lunch on the field.)
Saturday Night Dinner (Burgers, hot dogs, and potatoes will be served. People with allergies, special needs, etc. will need to be email Ron for additional details.)
Saturday Night Game (If enough interest from players)

 ](*,)

Felons, illegal immigrants and all others banned from buying a gun in the United States have a new alternative if they’re looking to get their hands on a firearm: Just buy a toy.

A FoxNews.com investigation reveals that a popular recreational pellet gun can be converted easily to a real semi-automatic weapon. And while the federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is already aware of the issue, these “toys” -- new, top-of-the-line airsoft rifles -- continue to be sold throughout the country.

Like paintball without the paint, the propane-powered airsoft guns are designed to shoot quarter-inch plastic pellets and are generally used for recreation or in military and law enforcement training.

When the ATF seized a shipment of 30 of these guns in October from a port in Tacoma, Wash., it said they could be “readily convertible” to machine guns. But gun experts called that claim absurd and said the ATF was overstepping its bounds.

Now one of those critics is reversing his position, saying at least one airsoft manufacturer has taken the quest to be authentic a little too far.

“The airsoft can be converted to an AR-15,” firearms manufacturer Leo Gonnuscio told FoxNews.com after testing the make and model of airsoft guns seized by the ATF.

Having concluded that several other airsoft guns could not be converted to fire real ammunition, Gonnuscio said he was surprised to find that he was able to to transform this particular gun to the real thing  -- and with “minimal work,” because its bottom half, or “receiver,” is so similar to an AR-15's.

To make the airsoft receiver function just like an AR-15’s, Gonnuscio said, “All you have to do is drill one hole.”

And once that's out of the way, the rest is even easier. The AR-15 receiver is the only part of the semi-automatic rifle that is given a serial number, and is the only part that is regulated. All the remaining parts of the real thing can be purchased by anyone – any kid, criminal or terrorist.

The cost of buying the Taiwan-made airsoft gun and all the parts needed to convert it to an AR-15 comes to roughly $1,100 -- more than the cost of some real AR-15s. But someone who can’t clear a background check or has been refused a gun for any other reason could use this method to make his own lethal weapon, Gonnuscio said.

Making it into a machine gun, he said, would require yet another conversion, and the makeshift gun would likely be able to fire only 15-20 rounds before it stopped working due to the pressure it would have to withstand while firing in an automatic fashion.

But as semi-automatic weapon, Gonnuscio said, “It may not last forever, but they’ve got a gun to get the job done that they were assigned to do, and nobody knows the wiser.”

The ATF has made no reported moves to regulate or seize any more of the airsoft guns, which continue to be sold in stores around the country, and it appears to be bowing to critics and reconsidering its stance on the guns' convertibility.

“We’re having to take a serious look at this, so it’s just something that we’re reviewing, and I’m hoping we’ll have some information that we can make available to the public certainly very soon,” ATF spokesman Drew Wade told FoxNews.com.

But firearms expert Len Savage said the ATF is taking a “serious look” at the wrong issue -- or, more specifically, the wrong part of the gun.

The reason it’s possible to make these airsoft receivers function as real receivers is that all an AR-15 receiver does is hold the gun together, Savage said. So with enough gun knowledge, almost anything can be made into a receiver.

“There’s a line of AR-15 firearms out there where the lower (the receiver) is made entirely of injection molded plastic … It could be made of cardboard and scotch tape,” he said.

The most important part of an AR-15, and the most difficult part to replicate, he said, is the upper half of the gun -- which is unmarked, unregulated and readily available for purchase.

"The ATF is regulating the wrong part as a firearm receiver, not the part that goes bang," Savage said.

“The upper is what contains the barrel, the breech or bolt, that’s what contains all the pressure,” he added.

The reason the lower half of the AR-15 is the part with the serial number, and thus classified as the receiver, is that when the gun was created it was up to the manufacturer to choose the location of the gun’s serial number, he said. Because the bottom of the gun has a flat surface, it was the easiest to mark.

And though federal law has since defined a gun’s receiver as the part “which provides housing for the hammer, bolt, breechblock and firing mechanism,” Savage says the bureau has continued to mark and regulate the lower part of the AR-15 to avoid confusion.

“In the stream of commerce, you’d have uppers that were marked and regulated and then lowers that were marked and regulated, you could see the confusion on a dealer basis” in determining which parts require licensing and which don’t, Savage said.

But even though the upper half of the gun can be bought by anyone, Gonnuscio still says that banning the airsoft receivers and implementing a few new rules for airsoft manufacturers could be a good start to keeping unregulated AR-15s off the street.

“I would hope that the ATF applies pressure to the manufacturers of these airsoft guns to redesign them so they cannot be converted," he said. "Make them move the pin holes ... so that an upper can’t be attached to it without major machining.

"Fill in some of that gap so that they would literally have to chuck this thing up in a mill and totally reconfigure it to work. Tighten up the magazine well so a regular magazine won’t fit in it.”

And because the U.S. is such a big market for these airsoft guns, Gonnuscio said, a foreign manufacture would change the product if its current design were banned here.

“There are tons of good uses for these guns: We use them for training, kids do reenacting with them, kids get out there and play just like the old days. We played BB gun wars when we were kids and we survived. These are little plastic balls that are shot by electricity or propane.

"So let them have their toys. Just make sure they're still toys.”

General Airsoft Discussion / Gearbox Airsoft has a new phone number!
« on: August 27, 2008, 09:33:30 AM »
Starting Friday, August 29th, Gearbox Airsoft will have a new phone number. This is another step closer to being fully separated from what used-to-be Jungletoy. The downside to this, however, is that our phone, internet, and credit card services are disabled until the new line is set up on Friday.  ](*,)  I know, it sucks for us too.

In the meantime, call me on my cell if you need to speak to one of us directly.

Next up is to get rid of the JT sign out front!
