Look What I Found!
« on: March 02, 2007, 05:33:25 PM »
Well, I finally went to get my uncle's guns out of storage today, and found out that some had been stolen.  I was supposed to get an original WWII M1 Garand that my grandfather used, and an 1898 Colt pistol, but found out they were nowhere to be found.  Only ended up walking away with this Enfield 1896 single shot .303 caliber rifle with 21.5 inch bayonet.

Sad to hear that, I will try to keep my eyes out for those if you and any serial info. I live on the collection sites.

Good luck getting them back, bro.

There are hundreds of Enfield and other rifles of that era at the bazaar by the gate over here.  I'm going to pick a few up and ship them back before I come home.

AKs are very, VERY cheap here also, but we can't send any home.

Can you ship them in "parts?"

If you can find me any K98 mauser parts cleaning rod, sight hoods, screws that would be great if for some reason a rifle appeared that would be even better. I would through a few bucks your way.

No, I cannot send an AK home in parts.  Well, I won't, anyway.  A fuckin AK isn't worth jail time.  An HK21, maybe. ;) This ain't Iraq bro, there's no gold plated MP5s and rooms full of guns.  This is a poor country.  Before AQ/Tally-ban moved up, these guys were offing each other with flintlocks.  I have an AK and RPG in the office, but that's strictly for celebrations.

Brain, I don't think many Mausers made it this far east.  There is Russian shit (they even left a few landmines!), and old, fucking OLD rifles.  Like, black powder old.

I'll keep an eye out, just for you! ;)  (Or you could buy one stateside even cheaper.)

Well, if you could tell me where I can get an AK stateside for $75, I guess I'll be content with that.

Well, then get me some rust remover, because I can't go out and get it myself, and my mom won't take me to get my license anytime soon so I can.

DO NOT attempt to fire that weapon without taking it to a qualified gunsmith. Alot of steel back then was never meant to handle the stress of modern ammunition loads. It has the very real possibility of blowing up in your hands. Its a neat piece, to be sure, but it may be more of a collector's item than a shooter.

Also, what license are you talking about?

OOO!!

Is is possible for you to elaborte? Im a big blackpowder collector, and would love to see what you come across. Id gladly throw some good bucks your way for a piece of history!

Ill send you a pm when I get a chance man.

Babybackribs: DO NOT use any type of rust remover on that rifle if you want to keep any of the collector value that it still has. Many people think that refinishing an antique gun will increase its collectors value, but in actuallity it will decrease it considerably. Do not take the rust off down to the bare metal. Believe it or not there is still some patina left under that rust. WD40 and steel wool is the best thing to use. NEVER use sandpaper or abrasive to clean rust off a gun, EVER.

Martini henrys have gone up quite consierably in value recently, and yours is in not too bad of shape cnsidering where it was stored. The early long lever tyes are worth more than the short lever models, and yours appears to be of the short types. But the conversion from the .577 martini to the .303 leaves a little of the value behind. Almost all of these were done so to before the adoption of the lee enfield rifle, and ones with out this are rare and even more desierable.

Enjoy it and take good care of it. It will last you a lifetime, and hopefully your childeren's/grandchinldren's/ect..

Thanks for the heads up.  I'm not planning on shooting it, since it is old, and I know nothing about it.  And M-79, do you know anybody who is in the Scottsdale area that could clean this up a bit?  I REALLY don't want to screw it up.  And are the ones that are still chambered for .577 the rarer ones, or are the .303?
