As a software engineer that dreams of being on a game-programming/design team, I'd like to know two things.

First, how did you land the job?  From my looking into game-programming positions, you have to have pretty good contacts already.

Second, related to the first, what skills was the employer looking for in particular.  What experience was necessary?

Other things that might be interesting are how much do you play games day to day?

What is your favorite game and why?

What games did you get into gaming on?

The questions you have listed could pretty much be asked of any job.

Hope this helps more than hurts.

Hope is the first step down the road of disappointment.
Only the awkward question; only the foolish ask twice.

I use a combination of a few program for different things. Milkshape3d for the actual moddeling, LightRay3d for uvw mapping and skinning, then Deep Exploration for Creating nice looking renders. I would reccomend getting milkshape3d and becoming familiar with moddeling. www.milkshape3d.com. Just search google for "milkshape tuts or tutorials" you should get some good ones, any questions just AIM, MSN or email me me-ushi

Any Game Designers out there?
« Reply #5 on: November 22, 2003, 03:09:00 PM »
I need to ask a game designer some interview questions (the answers don't have to be long, a sentence or two is fine) for a project. I already tried e-mailing Rooster, but he hasn't gotten back to me (probably too busy) Here are the questions:

What is the average yearly salary in game design?

What benefits are provided to you by your employer?

What inspired you to work in game design?

What kind of schooling is required?

How much time do you spend away from home?

If you could change one part of your job, what would it be, and why?

What are the pros and cons of this line of work?

What are your hours?

What sacrifices have you had to make?

How do you like your job?

If you could answer these questions, or find somebody who can by monday, that would be great (they didn't give us much time to get our interviews together for this project.)
