Sniper Help
« on: February 26, 2015, 11:25:28 PM »
Hello all,
I am relatively new to airsofting; I have an AEG and have used it for several games, so I have some experience. But ever since I started this hobby I've always wanted to be a sniper/marksman. I didn't purchase a sniper rifle at start because I wanted to get a standard AEG to get the "feel" of the game. After doing some research on airsoft sniper rifles I'm curious if its even worth using one over an AEG. I've been killed at very far distances by people with pretty upgraded AEGs, so what's the point of a sniper rifle if I'm outclassed by an AEG? Is there a way to compete against these upgraded wepons without spending a whole lot of money on a sniper rifle? Also if I were to purchase a sniper rifle, which type should I get (electric, gas, CO2) and are there specific models that experienced players would recommend? Sorry, there are quite a few questions! Feel free to answer any or all of them!

There is no real point, other than to challenge yourself.

99% of airsoft "snipers" out there only last a year or so before burning out and selling all their guns and either quitting airsoft altogether or just trading in their sniper for an AEG/polarstar/etc.

I've run bolt-action, single shot aegs, and more recently polarstars for... 13 years now, I enjoy it, but most do not.

Most AEGs can get amazing range especially if they are v2.5 gearbox like the SR-25 but if you do want an actual bolt action sniper then gas would be my recommendation.Polarstar engines for AEGs are also a great alternative if you have the money.

They see me snip'n they hate'n

In truth,
They all have advantages and disadvantages, but, the only thing they have in common is they are not cheap.

All can be made to be quiet, all of them can be made to be accurate. Gas is easier to adjust/harder to maintain, bolt is harder to pull back, aeg has more fail points unless overbuilt.

If you like doing it, any of the rifles will work for you.

The greatest tool you have as a "sniper" will be your radio, not your weapon.

If you must go cheap - the KJW M700 is a great starter if you like to tinker, or a $100 Bolt rifle that is marui-spec if not. Both can be upgraded into monsters over time.

Try and borrow a bolt rifle and try it out. many are willing to lend them as they are very robust. You will know within 5 minutes if you like Bolt/AEG/ or gas better haha.

Simple rule of thumb: Snipers are built, not bought. In fact, that goes for any gun you want to shoot at longer ranges. If you want to outrange the AEG's, you will need some money, time, and patience.

Thanks so much for the tips and advice guys! I'll try to borrow a rifle and use it for a few rounds. Also, one more question. Are snipers of any use at arenas like Wild West?

^^^ Nailed it. Lol most snipers I see run a modified scope that fits the look of a serious set of optics, but its only like, 2x or 4x mag. But yea. Snipers can get crazy with their setups sometimes. Its why I always prefered rifleman or LMG roles. It takes a certain kind of player to be a dedicated sniper. Most do tend to burn out and feel like they aren't having the thrill they could be having.

Buy used. If you don't like it, then you haven't spent full price and can still sel it to get some money back. There are a few sniper rifles on the sales thread that are fully upgraded. Hint hint as in mine.
Everybody get down!!! Their trying to kill me! YEOWWW!!!
