General Airsoft Game Discussion / Winter Snow Game
« on: September 22, 2003, 05:46:09 PM »
I know we discussed this a month or so ago, but seriously I would love to try one.

So the questions are, Where, When and How?

Just in case we don't get much snow up north around the prescott area, where else would be a good place?

Another question is how many people would actually like to do this?

I don't think camping out would be very much fun, but doing an all day game would be cool (no pun intended).  Maybe we should find a place with a hotel nearby?

Any other thoughts or concerns?

General Airsoft Discussion / To Fuse or Not to Fuse. . .
« on: September 20, 2003, 08:08:03 PM »
So for those of you who throw caution to the wind. Does removing the Fuse change anything important or noticeable if I do not change anything else at the same time?

Would this decrease battery run times on my gun or affect the rate of fire or power. . . Or anything worth digging in there and taking the little bugger out?

Just a thought.

Accessories & Gear / Guarder Tornado Thigh Holster
« on: September 17, 2003, 04:36:32 PM »
I just got this a few minutes ago. It came nicely wraped and with big tags and labels on it, to let you know it is the real deal.
My first impression was, Wow that is a lot of velcro.  It has so many places to adjust stuff that I don't even know what some of them are for yet.
After playing with it a little, I found it easily holsters my new H&K MK 23 without the Lam unit. It could possibly do that also, but I have not tried yet. One bad thing I noticed is that the thumb break is permenently attached in a funny spot which makes quick drawing the gun a fruitless ordeal.

Here are some pictures

General Airsoft Discussion / Glow in the dark Paint. . . .
« on: September 12, 2003, 10:11:53 AM »
Does anyone know where I can get the really bright ones?  I saw some at a Gun show in Mesa a while back before I got into Airsoft. People use it to paint temporary night sights on guns. Well I was thinking this stuff would be great at OPRO. Now where to find it. . . .

General Airsoft Discussion / Maybe spoke to soon about Throat Mic. . .
« on: September 08, 2003, 06:24:20 PM »
Well I finally got my Noise Terminator Headset from

http://www.clearercom.com/index.htm

Not only did it take forever to get here. The PTT button they show in one picture does not come with it. There is no packaging, just bubble wrap. No instructions, no nothing. When you try to recieve communications from someone using the headset you have to crank the volume just to hear them, and even then it sounds like they are talking through a styrofoam cup at you. General impression of the company and product is two thumbs down.

*UPDATE*
Sat. the 13th was the first real trial by fire of this throat mic, in an Airsoft game. Every player in the game said that I sounded clear and audible. I asked on numerous occasions, and everyone said they could hear me just fine.  Why it performed so poorly when I tested it at home is anyones guess. I will be using this for the next couple of games, so if you find it hard to hear please tell me.

General Off-Topic Discussion / *Bushnell Tanks Players read this.*
« on: September 07, 2003, 05:50:53 PM »
For all of you who like our little Saturday morning get togethers. I just wanted to remind and restate something important.

<b>Do not have your guns where they are plainly visible at the Gas Station.</b>

If you know you are going to switch cars and ride with someone else, bring a gun bag or some other carry case for it. You can get a cheap gun case for around $10. If you are going to spend $200. on an AEG why not spend a little more to make sure you don't break it?

I know a lot of people complain about this, I totally agree. I am old enough to carry a real gun in public.

 So why is this different?

It is different because we are playing a sport that in some states and countries they have already outlawed it.
There are people out there, even people who have served in the military that believe civilians should not have the right to bear arms. These people do not have the power yet to shut down gun manufactures, but they might have the power to ruin Airsoft for all of us.

How can we stop this from happening?

By being careful and considerate. By trying to avoid unwanted attention to our sport.
We do not have the numbers yet to fight for our rights if the vultures come after us. You may point and say that, "There are lots of Airsofters in Arizona."
Yes this is true, but in the law makers eyes anyone underage has no voice. Without the right to vote, your opinion does not matter to them. Therefore a good number of our supporters do not exist to those who regulate us.

We need to try and grow our sport carefully so that these "Vultures", so to speak, do not have enough of a reason to come after us.

Enough lecturing Be safe, play safe, Have Fun!

I ordered my name tapes 4 days ago and they just arrived today. Talk about fast, and they look good.

If your looking to get some made, this place is fast!

Well as always it was a blast. Hope everyone had as much fun as I did.

I have come to the conclusion that it is not practical to play multiple objective games at these games without a lot more people. The multiple objectives just give people reasons to do nothing or be indecisive. This leads to the sitting around the camp fire wondering when the enemy will arrive problems we have been having.

So after coming to this conclusion, in the future if we do multiple objective games the players should not know of the next objective until the first is completed.
Sure this means taking a break every hour or so to go over the new scenario, but no matter what, we do this anyways.

So lets hear what you guy's have to say.

Accessories & Gear / Night vision at its worst
« on: August 28, 2003, 09:46:38 PM »
To start off, I am trying to find a cheap alternative to expensive Night vision equiptment. I was thinking about getting a cheap night vision monocular around $100. and some how modifying it to fit on a rail system. Duct tape, super glue who knows.

Any input, ideas, cautions?  Any certin brand I should look for or stay away from?

General Airsoft Game Discussion / Aug. 3rd Summation
« on: August 03, 2003, 09:00:34 PM »
Well as usual great game everybody. I had a lot of fun. In 2 out of the 3 games I was there for I did not get shot, which is an improvement. Unfortunately my battery for the M4 died again before we were done playing. If anyone has one they want to sell me, I am planning on being at the Aug. 9th Game. Just let me know. [:)]

To the point of the matter. Game 1 was a different twist on an old favorite. It was a retrieve your teams Dynamite pack and bring it to a designated blast area on your opponents team. The twist you ask, is that both teams have bombs to be placed, and defended. The timers on the bombs once retrieved and placed were set at 1 min. Which means there can be no lolly gagin around once the OPforce has your bomb.  As for the game play on this, it was pretty interesting. Both teams took a less than conservative approach right from the start.  After initial casualties were incurred, the game became more strategic. Eventually one team (the other guys [V] ) detonated their bomb. This game was pretty evenly matched because given 1 more min our team would have had our bomb detonated.  All in all it was a very interesting game of defense and offense.

Game 2 was back to basics. Capture the hill. This time however each team had a timer on the hill and was responsible for switching their 30 min. count down on and switching the enemy teams off. This game had much more intense fire fights. Practically 30+ min worth. There were very few Lulls in the fighting. I think I went through 4 mages on the hill alone. And oh did I mention it was single fire only. As with most of the times we have played this game, the team which took the hill first was able to keep it most of the game.  Good fun a cover fire practice if nothing else was gained.  At one point however the fighting spilled over into the parking area.  This should have and easily could have been avoided.  For future reference most sane people don't like getting their cars shot at without at least running someone over. [^]  I think on these capture a static point games we need to be able to approach the target point from a good distance in any direction.  This will allow all you Flankers to have plenty of counter Flanking room.

Game 3 The last game I was there for, was a capture the enemies command post style game. No real new innovations on this game were made. Since there were approx. 5 people per team we did instant respawns for each game. Which kept the fire fights heavy. The defenders of the Command center had to hold their position for 30 min. And succeeded as usual. This time however it was not because the Opforce took 15 min to find the base. In a fair estimation, the enemy base area ( not specific point ) was found in less than 2 min of game start.  There were several small fire fights, but few heavily engaged ones. I think I changed mags once just to run out of battery power almost immediately afterwards. The defenders picked a nice area to set up camp, where it was difficult to flank without being spotted. This made the OPforce have to come in slower than was prudent for the 30min time limit, and eventually won the game for the defenders.  The 30 min limit had just run out right when all of the OPforce had converged on the base point.  This was also the high point in the fighting with BB's flying in all different directions.
So as stated it was another great day of Airsoft. I hope to see you all at the Aug. 9th game next weekend!

General Airsoft Game Discussion / July 26th summation & impressions
« on: July 26, 2003, 08:38:58 PM »
First off sorry about the length, & good game all who were there.
To those who said you would be there and did not show, Shame on You!

The first scenario was a border crossing scenario. 1 team had to smuggle 3 items to the other side of the border. In theory this was an interesting game idea, but in reality it was a short fire fight with a mad dash for the border.
To give this scenario more replay value, in my opinion, we should change the rules a bit. I was thinking that to make the smuggling harder the smugglers should either 1. be forced to walk with package not run. 2. need 2 people to carry package, or 3. not be able to advance with package when a fire fight erupts in their immediate area I.E. when we are shooting at them.
One of the rules / guidelines for the border troops was that we needed to capture one of the smugglers alive. There was no way we could do this when they went blazing for the finish line. They were outrunning our pellets for gods sake. Enough said here. Try it again with some changes and see if it last longer and is more fun.
Game 2 (Maybe not in order) So with the smugglers beating us soundly, they decide to try and attack our encampment to chase the Border guards off or kill us.
In all fairness I have played several defend point such and such games before and never had this much trigger time or fun. The first reason this game was so good, the Smugglers did not have foreknowledge of where our encampment was. This made them search for us, and made the game a little slower at the beginning, but gave the defenders more time to coordinate and familiarize ourselves with the terrain. Which is all things we would have done had this been our real encampment. So we had a spotter on each end and the rest of us at the camp grounds. The smugglers had a hard time finding our camp, which I agree we should have had a flag or some identifying mark to show its location. Once the smugglers did find the base it was a non stop fire fight for the remaining time. [:D] Like I said I have never had that much trigger time in a capture so and so before. The terrain was a perfect mixture for cover and wide open areas, much nicer than the place I had previously played at out there. So to summarize, Base camp should have identifying mark I.E. bandana hanging in tree, highly visible. Everything else seemed to work well, even the 3 death limit.

Game 3 Pistol only (sort of)

This was a standard capture and hold point so and so. It probably would have been a pretty even game except that our team either started farther from the "Point" or did not start on time. We were beaten to the Cap point and swatted back from there on out.
Another more major problem was the pistols only. Out of 10 people little over half actually had pistols, so the ones without pistols had to use AEG single fire only. [xx(] You can see how this worked out, I'm sure. Once one team got the cap point and entrenched their AEG carriers, it was damn near impossible to get close enough to score a kill on them without being killed. I don't know if any pistol carriers actually did it or not, but I know I did not. Second time out of respawn I went blazing into battle with my trusty, LOL, G18 which promptly spit gas and died. Not having any way to refill it handy, and no one on my team had extra gas handy either, I ended up being a spotter and actually helped get several kills this way [:)] but never got close enough for a knife kill [:(] Oh well maybe next time.
So my ideas here are. If you are going to try and get people to play a Pistol only game, make sure to ask / tell people on the forum first that you want to incorporate this into a game. I was initially depressed because I came out to Shoot my new M4, but the pistol was fun too. Second we should not allow any AEG's / Sniper rifles or only 1 per team. Third some people had more than 1 pistol while others had none, some had multiple mags while others had only 1. These people with extra guns should allow someone who they trust to borrow a gun for the game, or not use both. I was thinking we should make each person only carry as many mags as the lowest number in the group so everyone is pretty much equal. This would slow down respawns because people are reloading, but at least it would be uniform for everyone.

Game 4

This game was the exact same as 3 except that each was allowed their AEG's on single fire only. This was more fun for me and my M4 except my battery died and was having feeding problems with my Mags, probably related to the aforementioned battery problem.

This game worked out much more evenly with both teams holding the Cap point for almost equal amounts of time. The only real downfall I noticed was that it did not seem to take as long for one team to respawn as the other. Maybe a distance concern again. The other bad incident that happened was that one person got a nasty pellet wound to the face. Blood and all [:o)] This I am sure was an accident, and no amount of trigger control can stop BB's from going Awol sometimes. And you have to remember that if you don’t wear a full face shield you are bound to get hit in the face sometime. Just one of the many inherent dangers to our sport.

I don't know if and or what types of games you played after I left. But again Good Games and nice to see you all again.

General Airsoft Discussion / Recommendations - For Big Games -
« on: July 14, 2003, 05:39:59 PM »
Since a lot of you guys have been to these big name Air Soft games, I was wondering if you could give us some general recommendations on things we should have. I think we all have read the general recommendations on the AA web site, but I'm talking more from a convienience stand point. Like how many mags is too many; do they usually require hi cap or standands, Is food storage a consideration when organizing your combat uniform or is there a place to store this sort of stuff for access during rest periods? You know all the not so obvious things that you say to yourself, damn I wish I thought of that!

AEG's / Hop Up . . . = Power Up?
« on: April 18, 2003, 11:40:50 PM »
I was reading my invoice from my AEG and found where I had "upgraded" my FPS to 400. At the game last week my AEG came in at a Whopping 317 FPS.
Anyways I was in the garage trying to run my battery down and it appeared to me that my AEG shot harder with the Hop Up turned up.
Is this my imagination? Or is that supposed to happen?

Airsoft Items FOR SALE / Anyone have an M4 they want to sell?
« on: April 15, 2003, 03:45:51 PM »
I have been looking to get a second airsoft long gun, either for myself or to let one of my friends borrow for games. I like the look of the M4/M16 shorty, but have never shot one so I don't know much about them.  Anyone have any comments on these guns?  Or any suggestions?  I would appreciate that also.
Thanks.
