Good M4 mags?
« on: May 28, 2007, 07:36:32 PM »
I have been using the same M4 mags for over 3 years and noticed last weekend at LC's that they wont feed in full auto anymore.

So what is the best mags around these days, or is there reasonably reliable alternative that is cheaper?

I like the MAG mags, they are cheap, light, and seem to be reliable.  They are 100 rnds, but seem to work better if you don't stuff them full.  I usually only put in 80.  Out of the 16 that I have purchased only 1 has gone down.  At 7 bucks a piece(when you buy an 8 pack) the Price is right also.

On the downside, they are plastic(so less realistic) and the last 3 or 4 BB's don't feed.  So with every mag change you lose 3 or 4 BB's.

Just my 2 cents,
Charlie

The last three or four BBs never feed, unless it's a TM Type 89 mag (which, while STANAG replicas, don't work in M4s).

MAG mags are OK as Charlie says, but, they are plastic as he also says, and I don't think they are as 'nice' as TM standards.

My vote's for TM standards.

Are the Mag mags 1 solid piece of plastic, or do they have a plate on the bottom like the TM mags?

Just curious, I have pull strings on mine because my vest holds them so tight I can hardly get one out.  Although the plastic might be easier to remove from the vest. . .

I opened one of my mags up and streched the spring.  But I'm sure that wont last long.

$56. for 8 mags. . . . choices choices.

Anyone know of a place to buy replacement springs by chance?  I've never seen any.

You won't be able to make paracord pulls for these, you'll have to buy Magpuls.

You could tape the paracord on, but that shit is booty, just spend the extra money and do it right.

Does anyone know where I can get a non high cap Lorsen G3 magazine. The only reason I don't want a hi-cap is that my freinds get pissy because they think its cheating.

First, that is way off topic. Second, that is a lpeg and unless it is a real replica I dont think it will have one made for it.

If you can find the Metal A&K standard mags they are great and cheap.  You can find them for about 14 or less depending on the site. They are rare due to people not wanting standards. Its a complete TM clone with the only visible plastic being the top and BB guide(which is normal).

EDIT: I believe this is one just mislabeled since AGM doesn't have a M4 and alot of their stuff is wrong. But I can't tell.

I have been using the GP mags and they have worked alright for me, at LC I was using some TM mags however and they feed perfectly. I plan on replacing all my mags with TMs.

I'd say 3 years of use = you getting your fuckin' moneys worth, dude.

Throw them out and replace them with mags of the same type and you can expect another 3 years of service.  Do you think you would have had 3 years of use from a plastic mag?

Guys get emotionally attached to mags, and I don't understand why.  Throw that old shit out!

Get more TM.  Best mags hands down.  I fucked around with different kinds for over 2 years before I realized to just stick with TM and they shall not fail.  And my shit is dirty inside and out, and the TMs still slide in and feed the best.  Others fail when they get dirty, or are not kept lubed.

Honestly, I've been using them for 3 years and I bought them Used from Harley.

So god only knows how old they really are.

Now I need to find a good deal on some more.

Well, that's because they were mine, were well taken care of, lubed and PMCS'ed often, and will probably last forever.  You can hand those mags down to your grandkids!

Well, that and brand new TM mags just look gay with that what-the-fuck-were-they-thinking finish.

But if those mags ever fail you on the field of [simulated] battle, leave them there as a testament to the firefights that were.
