^Oh yeah, I forgot to add, the Tachyon camera also comes with a clear, full body protective case that is only open to the rear to allow the user to access the buttons. I haven't taken a direct hit to either the lens or the case, but the tachyon is also a smaller target to hit than a contour or go Pro.

Keep in mind, you can also make your own lens protecting cover by dremeling a piece out of a sheet of lexan, which you can buy at Home Depot. You just gradually sand it to fit and then glue or tension-fit it in place. I do that for my RDS and scopes.

The camera still picks up sound quite well with the cover on, you can actually hear the bbs hitting around 0:37 in the video

it will leave a white impact depression on the outside protective lense. i would not recommend taking direct shots to the front of the contour
I would recomend not taking direct shots to any part of your person, but that's the whole reason we do this.

Does the Contour camera have a protective lens?

GoPro - Direct Hit!

This is quite important to me as well.  Can the contour take a direct hit to the lens?

Yes

I've had success with the Gopro. Of course shorty after I bought mine the new Hero2 came out which offers faster proccessing and multiple FOV options as well as an optional Wifi module that streams to your smart phone etc. Gopro offers a NVG mount which I plan on picking up too. I am really impressed with Gopro's housings. I've taken the airtight one underwater.
