You might want to check the whole hop up system. I had an G3SG1 that was fully upgraded. When I put in a upgraded barrel I accidently didn't have the rubber tube aligned correctly. Check it and let me know.

He may have left out the little tube that makes the hop up work.  Without it you can crank the hop up as much and it won't make a bit of difference.

No Im pretty sure I put the hopup tube back on. It the peice of rubber that slides over the end of the barrel, correct? Im going to take it apart tonight and reinstall it, if that doesn't work im going to take my dremel and cut the barrel down to match the size of the old one.

I thought about trying to exchange it from where I got it but by the time I pay return shipping and restocking fees its going to cost double what I paid for the barrel itself...

Nope, there's a little piece of black tubing about an 1/8 of an inch long that rides on top of the hop up bucking, (the tube you're referring to).  When you turn the hop up adjustment, the cam pushes down on this tube and presses againts the hop up bucking and is what makes the whole thing work.

Thats what I was referrering to. It can sometimes get jammed in there. So it won't push down. I think that little piece of rubber is junk, so I took a tiny nail and cut a small section off it. Works much better. But thats just my experience.

Well I took the gun apart again tonight, made sure the hopup was installed correctly, put it back together and still had the same results. So I decided to cut the new barrel down to length of old one (lol). No my bb's fly every which way. So I took it all apart again and put the old barrel back on. Works like a charm.

$25 mistake, I suppose it could have been worse... thanks for the help guys

Hmmm, could be you got one with a bad cutout for the hop up slot.  Some of the TN barrels have to be modified in order to work.  5 minutes with a dremel tool fixes it right up.  Compare the opening, (cutout on top near the hop up end) on the new barrel to your stock one sometime and see if one is larger than the other.

Yes I did notice the two different sizes in the hopup holes from barrel to barrel. Maybe I'll look into that in the near future. I have my gun back together and working again, so I'm a little hesitant to take it back apart...

Need Help Troubleshooting New Barrel Install
« Reply #10 on: October 15, 2003, 09:36:26 PM »
Hey guys, I live in Oklahoma and haven't found anyone who plays yet, but I have already began purchasing gear. A few weeks ago I bought a g3sg1 and decided to install a new barrel on it. In a stupendious move, I purchased a systema bs 6.04 for the m16a1 (longer barrel, more accuracy is the thought that ran thru my head).

Well, after getting everything back together I find that my shots are falling short of my aim from about 30ft no matter what the hop-up is set on. I thought at first maybe my battery was going dead so I charged it up but still get the same results.

Ive done some research and happened upon the "vaccumm" theory, where the barrel is too long and the piston starts to pull back before the bb has exited the barrel. Is there any other reason my shots could be falling short (perhaps I fudged up the install) or do I have a case of the suck backs, and if so whats the easiest way to fix this?

BTW, at 30ft I am getting close to pinpoint accuracy from shot to shot... too bad I'm having to lob the bbs lol
