[Yet another] Noob
« on: March 28, 2006, 10:51:02 PM »
hello everyone...
so, yeah... I'm new to the sport and the forum;
My name is James, I'm 19, and I live in Mesa.
I guess I would qualify as an ex-paintballer.
I got into paintball 3 years ago; the same guy who got me into paintball introduced me to airsoft; I didn't actually start playing AS until this summer, though.
I stopped playing paintball because, with a kid on the way in 6 months, I really can't afford the upkeep for my paintball gun.
I found this forum through a link on the airsoftplayers.com forum
seeing as I live here in the Valley of the Sun, and I like Airsoft, it felt like a perfect fit.
So, being a newbie, I don't really have any wicked awesome gear yet; I'd like to feel like I've earned a sweet gun before I go and spend my money on one. (I can't bring myself to shoot a gun unless I feel like I can do it justice; I know, I'm wierd!)
I'm also pretty into DIY mods on cheap guns. (I'll post some pictures of my projects when I can put my hands on a camera.)
It's turning out to be a fun way to pass the time; I can't wait to see what I can come up with when I have a little more money to work with...
Well, that's about it, I guess.
I'm off to goof with my cheap ass guns some more, see you all around.

I agree with you earning your AEG, you should first get used to lower end guns.  And welcome to the world of Airsoft.

That is the worst advice I have ever heard. Welcome to the world of airsoft.

Really, the "get used to a crummy rifle" excuse is pretty lame.  Buy yourself the best you can affort.  Show your prey the respect he/she deserves.

Don't listin to get the crummy gun stuff first rubbish, get a decent gun you can get good with and not have to bother upgrading.  (people only tell you to get the cheap guns first cause they want easy kills)  :P

I don't know where you guys came from.  But you really gotta work up from the basics of airsoft.  With spring guns, you learn things like conserving ammo, and taking your time on shots since you don't exactly have a great rof for spring guns.  From my experience, all the people I know who immeadiatly went to AEGs completely sucked.  But if you wanna go right up to the 'big guns' go right ahead.  I'm just giving my opinion on how it worked for me and my team.

I'm a mediocre at best airsofter, but I started with an AEG, and I nearly almost always kill more than I am killed.

I agree that if you want to become better you must have trigger control and a good way to force yourself to do that is to limit your number of rounds.  But with that aside, to have someone spend their hard earned money on a piece of crap is not sound advice in my opinion. Spend your money on good quality and then if you choose to limit your rounds and such you can. At least this way you buy the thing once and dont have to waste money buying crap and then getting something better. That is if you plan on sticking with it. If not then crap would be a good way to go.

I know what you're saying Valley. I got ACU's and coyote MOLLE gear (coyote=best!) coming out my ass and still I don't have an AEG!

Sorry to hijack your thread but I thought I would introduce myself while I'm at it.

Hey, my name is Aaron and I live in North Phoenix/Deer Valley area. I have been around the AA forums for about 2 years now. My previous account was cmptrdewd. I got a new account for a few reasons. First, I know I did cause some trouble while on the boards and I would just like to apologize and start off with a clean slate.

Second, I just got tired of cmptrdewd. I picked Chinchilla_man because anyone who owns a chinchilla knows how fast, stealthy and intelligent these creatures are. If they escape in the house it is almost impossible to catch them because they are quick and silent and are capable of making smart movements under and behind things. After a while of owning chinchillas I have become the best in my household at capturing them because I have learned to think like them, but they still surprize me at times. You really have to own a chinchilla to appreciate it's tactical prowess.  8)

I know how lame that last paragraph sounded but it's true!

I left for awhile because I didn't see the point in hanging around here when I couldn't participate in games being 15.

Now that I'm 16 I'm looking for a job (to afford an AEG), a set of wheels (to come out to games) and a sponsor (to play in games). I know at least one of you guys are in the National Guard and I think my dad, being in the NG himself would like the idea of me having a sponsor in the NG.

Here's a few more thing about me:

I do photography, that includes airsoft combat photography.
I'm profishent in Photoshop, can make decent looking sigs and avatars.
I have webdesign experience and have a good feel for HTML.
I enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities, liking camping, moutain biking, backpacking, hiking, etc.
I'm a member of the Phoenix Speedskating Team (ice, not inline).
Like I said before I own ACU's and MOLLE gear but no AEG yet.
Guess that makes me a gear wh0re then, huh?

Best bet is buy what you can afford, its not a waste of money if you use it a lot.  I made the mistake of buying an MP5 only to find out later that I prefer an M4, for the looks and feel.  So maybe attend a game and check out people's gear.  I've yet to meet and airsofter that wouldn't let somebody fire their gun to see how it feels.
