AEG's / Lube!
« on: July 05, 2011, 02:03:18 PM »
I have an Echo1 G36c and it been sounding rather loud lately. It's distracting to hear the gears so clearly and I haven't taken a look at the gearbox just yet, but I have a feeling I'll be doing some cleaning and greasing. Browsing stores online, I noticed there are different kinds of grease for different parts, such as gear grease, piston grease, bearing grease, hop-up oil, etc. Are separate products necessary? Any advice when it comes to cleaning and re-lubing a gearbox?

Gas Powered Guns / M9 GBB magazine release malfunction
« on: September 18, 2009, 11:11:02 PM »
My KJW M9 is having trouble holding on to the magazine whenever I fire it. The blowback shakes the mag loose from the catch and just falls out. I checked and the catch still has its spring, so I don't get what's wrong. Any ideas?

General Airsoft Game Discussion / Airsoft game proposal
« on: August 18, 2009, 11:22:59 PM »
Players: 40+
Teams: 2 or 3
Objectives: multiple and dynamic
Duration: 2 or 3 days
Basic premise: hiking, camping and airsoft all in one

-Assuming there are three teams, each team will have a separate starting location within a large wooded area. Not only will players carry their guns, ammo and gear, but they will also be responsible for carrying food and water.
-To simplify things, each team will be called a Platoon and each Platoon will be split into several Fireteams.
-To start, Platoon 1's objective may be to reach a certain destination, such as a campsite with fortifications. Platoon 2's objective may also be to reach the same destination. Platoon 3's objective will be to reach a completely different, undisputed campsite and will be given the option of settling down or ambushing the other Platoons.
-As time limits are reached or objectives are achieved, new ones will be issued. Platoon leaders will take votes from Fireteams when there are multiple objectives to choose from.
-Each Platoon's leader is in constant contact with a group of people who direct the events of the days.

It would take a lot of coordinating, but I believe it can be done. A way of getting people food and water and supplies would have to be established.

AEG's / Tokyo Marui Electric Blowback
« on: August 09, 2009, 01:16:12 PM »
Blowback in AEGs has always been a stupid add-on or marketing ploy, having little to do with the actual operation of the gun.

But what about these new TMs and CYMAs? Has anyone fired one and decided that the addition of an electric recoil system gave the gun better aesthetics?

Accessories & Gear / Retaining peripheral vision
« on: October 08, 2008, 01:09:27 AM »
I sincerely apologize if this has been discussed before.

Are there any good brands of or specific paintball or airsoft masks that have 1) proper ventilation, 2) a very wide field of vision, 3) comfort?

My biggest problems with masks is that they tend to rest on my nose uncomfortably, that they squeeze my temples even when loose (causing headaches), that they fog up instantly on winter nights, that I'm unable to see out of the corners of my eyes, and that they're generally unfriendly when you want to aim down your sight (bulky). I prefer masks to Wiley-X, Oakleys, or shooting glasses or goggles. I've tried out quite a few of each of those and have never been too happy about being shot in the lip, which is just my damned luck. I have tried out friends' masks but none are very comfortable for me to wear.

AEG's / What are the difference between popular Chinese brands?
« on: September 30, 2008, 10:00:42 PM »
What are the differences between JG, A&K, AGM and CYMA? Do you have any recent experiences with any of these brands? How well-built are they and do you think they are reliable? Any tips for owning them?

Most interesting to me are AGM and A&K's metal body M16 models.

Reviews / Echo1 G36c
« on: August 15, 2008, 01:24:05 AM »
Purchased from AirsoftGI Monday night, got here Thursday morning on $2.50 UPS Ground Shipping. As usual, ASGI test-fired and chrono'd the gun beforehand at 380fps with .20g BBs. Thank you, ASGI.

//first impression:
Upon opening the box I removed all fliers and pamphlets and receipts and wiggled the gun out of its styrofoam prison. I could see that the gun appeared to be well-built, and holding it in my hands only enforced this first impression. I tried to squeeze it--no creaking anywhere. The stock detaches very easily and swings into the side of the gun very easily before snapping into place with an absolute "crack." Pulling the charging handle back revealed the wheel-style hop-up adjustmer (already adjusted by ASGI). The charging handle cannot be pulled back the full four inches or so as on the real deal. The metal flash hider is an amazing orange color that I absolutely hate. The included hi-cap magazine is solid gray plastic and slides easily in or out of the magwell. The front sight was a little crooked, but definitely usable.

//test fire:
The included 8.4v 1100mah battery had some juice in it, so I took the holding pin out of the G36c's handguard, attached the battery, and was ready to rock and roll after slipping the handguard back on. The hi-cap magazine is very easy to load and winds very well after the first few uses. I used the included 200 BBs that came in the box. At a distance of 80ft the G36c was nearly dead-on with no wind. It makes a satisfying "snap" whenever the trigger is pulled and a BB is fired. Using a coke can (poor man's chronograph) for test-firing I determined the fps to be just around the limit ASGI's certificate stated. Full-auto is impressive for a gun costing only $150, in my opinion.

General Airsoft Discussion / Does The Gearbox have a website?
« on: July 28, 2008, 09:33:35 PM »
I live in north-eastern Phoenix, a long ways from The Gearbox, and I'm always looking for spare parts to fix up my guns or to upgrade, and occasionally for deals on new or used airsoft guns. It's difficult to get all the way down there because of time and because of the cost of gas and I was wondering, does The Gearbox have a website?

Frankly, it'd be neat to be able to know what they have on-sale and in-stock or on consignment without having to drive all the way over.
