Local Airsoft
« on: November 18, 2009, 07:17:01 AM »
I own a local machine shop in the valley.  I have owned an airsoft gun for the past year and I have an absolute blast playing.  I think these airsoft rifles are very impressive.  I am wanting to make an american made airsoft gun that does not cost an arm or a leg.  The idea came to me once I started breaking down my gun and realized that I could make a lot of my own parts.  I know there is a lot of R & D involved but I think it would not take long before we could start selling some guns. Iam planning on having some prototypes by the end of the year. We probaly start out using overseas gearboxes but we really want to make as much as we can in house. I am wanting to know from the site if you guys would be into something like this.   Would you purchase made in the USA airsoft guns?   We want to compete with overseas buy making midpriced range guns.  I am interested to hear your opinions.

I'd give an American made, mid priced gun a shot.  I like your idea, as long as you can keep it cheap.

If you can provide maybe even higher quality control and better quality of assembly (don't end up making it difficult for the consumer to work on their own gun), I'd be willing to pay a little extra.

I just don't know how you plan to manage a lower price than the brands overseas, unless it requires a lot of labor that you don't make much prophet from.

Even if you just made parts that are hard to get a hold of, that could interest me (like some of the G&G parts...).

due to copyright laws some style of modern weapons might need to have a manufactors licensing to keep your self out of trouble, also it can be a buying point for some customers. Since you are likely to use overseas bearboxes I would honestly put a shit ton of effort into the fit and finish and quality of materials to set yourself apart from other manufactors. I will tell you I like the easy take down and realism of VFC products so take a look at them.

If you can combine the quality and ease of take down with a low enough price and gearboxes that wont die you might have a slight chance but with all the chinese clones out there you might just want to start off with upgrade parts like metal bodies and such.

I'd be interested... but honestly, it's hard to place too much trust into something we haven't seen.

That being said, I'm all for keeping my money in the states. Like everyone else said, your guns are more than likely not going to compete in the price category, simple fact of life. Make them better in every other way... and you will gain a strong following pretty quickly.
