you should add a new bolt (beacuse the original one is awful and if you get a new one if will last alot longer),  a new spring, tight bore barrel (increases your spead and makes your shots alot more accurate), new hop-up system, and a silencer because the barrel will be sticcking out. your gun will be shooting around 700 fps or more =D>  :D

and alone when you are rejected from the team, and everyone else because you have a airsoft gun that will go faster than a .45 pistol, and would easily shatter eyeware.

thats why snipers have range limits, i personally wouldnt go beyond an m160 spring becuase your ROF goes down the drain with any spring stronger than that because the tension makes it harder to pull the bolt back, not to mention you would be tearing up triggers like a black man in an asian whore house.

Necro Add.

That said, I have the UTG 96 as a "shell" for a project build up. So far I have painted it, added a PDi stainless TB (6.01 - 495mm) PDi Hop, Firefly Bucking, laylex cylinder head, PDi barrell spacers, laylex piston, laylex spring guide, laylex piston head.

Im necro'ing because allot of people say this gun is fine out of the box and perfect for a build up. My comments are -
1. if you happen to get a good one, yes its solid out of the box and great for a build. However the QC at UTG is not the best. The gun is over lubed from factory, it shipped with the dirtiest inner barrel i have ever seen, etc. It took more than 7 full patches to clean it! It has allot of fly aways, which a bucking and or new hop fixed.
2. its not a good rifle if you are doing a marksmen or sniper role where you have to change positions frequently, it is a giant gun and has some good heft to it.

If you ae looking for a shell for a 96 build then yes go for the UTG all the externals are tough enough. There is Alot of info on upgrading this gun on A.R., even a few how to instal "x". A red dot or even iron sights would work fine on this gun a 3-9x scope has def been overkill, i rarley ever go more than 3 or 4x. If you want something good bolt action wise i recomend buying one thats already built or is used ive seen ones with dead internals sell for as low as 40.00. or you can buy a bar10, great base allot of mods and is only 74.00. If anyone considering the 96 for purchase or upgrade, has questions on it I would be happy to help.

So being a Utg rifle, I've heard quite a lot of good reviews on this gun for the price. Definitely a good gun to mod considering all the external pieces. However, 500 fps out of the box (if lucky) is sick. Of course after wear and tear your getting probably closer to 450 still stock. I bought this gun a couple weeks ago, definitely more for firepower than mobility but shit isn't that what sniper's are supposed to be? Anyways I recommend this gun for many types of players. It's just a good all around gun. Now some internal pieces like the trigger assembly is usually the best thing to change no matter who you are. I mean its plastic... plastic and 450+ fps just don't go well together period. Seriously though, great gun for the price. Go tryout a buddies first if you're still not convinced.

This is one of the best guns that has been on our team, like I said in other posts my partner keny has the L-96 and couldn't be more happy with it stock! It gets the job done on our granite dells field where their is a lot of long distance shooting. My suggestion to anyone who is thinking of getting this gun is to buy it! It has worked great since it was bought when they first came out.
