On May 9th, 1945, the final German surrender took place, effectively ending World War II in Europe, with the final Japanese surrender to take place three months later.
So, let's take some time out of our busy days to honor the soldiers that fought in the war that surely shaped history in more ways than perhaps anything else (well, except maybe electricity -- shit is awesome), the soldiers of the Greatest Generation.

This'll be funny for you guys, but it was actually my grandmother who served in WWII. She was a nurse, got out as a major.

My grandfather was shot in the head at The Battle of the Bulge, and lived. Beat that.

Mine was a Platoon Sargeant in the 13th Infantry attached to the 13th Armored Division aka "Black Cats". He has pictures of the inside of Hitler's home in Austria. They called him "The Deacon" since he didn't drink or smoke.
Oh and I also found out my dad's uncle and his dad(not mine) both served in the navy during WW2 in the pacific. His uncle was KIA due to ship to ship combat(a shell went into the room), at a post he took for someone else.
