This event is near Fountain Hills. I am trying to get a map. I will post it as soon as I find it. The Arby's is at the intersection of the Beeline Highway (Hwy 87) and Shea Blvd.

If your arroused by the name I'm not sure you should come out.  :)

OK here is some more information about the event:

It is on March 7th.  We are meeting at the Arby's in the parking lot on the corner of Shea and the 87 freeway.  It is on the left side of Shea about a block away from the turn off.  We will be meeting at 10:00am and will sort out transportation (as this location is off road and some people have trucks that can make and others do not).  We will then caravan to the location so no one gets lost.  OKC is a few minutes past the four peaks turn off going north on the 87.  The reason for the name is because there is a corral near the entrance.  However, it basicly turns into a collection of washes that form sort of a trench system that provides good cover and great combat.  It will certainly be a great event.  We have airsofted there many times before and it is a good place. We hope to see you all there.

There are some set game senarios for the game, but we are easy and will take any suggestions for additional games.  Mainly all of the games will revolve around OP: Red Hand (a ficticious US and Allied Operation that engages ex-Soviet militias who are commiting genocide in ex-soviet block states like Georgia).  But like I said we are easy and will play whatever.

If you want to see what we look like and what we use for our games (as far as gear goes), you can go to our website http://www.warlordairsoft.com.  It is just the myspace page right now, but we are working on getting the real website up and running soon.  It will let you know what exactly we do.

This is my first post on AA, but I have been playing for a while now.  I am kind of the ring leader for this group.  I hope to meet some new people.

If anyone has any other questions let me know.  You can email me at giulianom60@cox.net.

Thanks for your intrest in the OP.
Joe

This IS the the Arby's in Fountain Hills.  Just to let you guys know.  The parking lot is shared with some other fast food places like Taco Bell I think.  But in any case just look for the Arby's.  It is on the left hand side of Shea (north side if I am not mistaken) going towards the 87 freeway.  If you get the the 87 you went too far.  You should see us in the parking lot (the guys wearing BDUs).

Hope to see you all there!

Post by: 19dcav on March 02, 2009, 10:44:21 PM
Hey Everybody-

Here is a little update on the game.  So far it looks like we have at least 20 people.  If all of you guys who posted can make it that will put us way over that number.  It looks like this is going to be a fairly big game (people-wise)  I really hope everyone can make it, should be tons of fun.  In any case, we will wait at the meeting place for about 15 minutes and then head out to OKC.

Also, if anyone has a 249 (SAW) it would be great to even out teams (so each team has a support weapon).  We should have one already out there, its nothing big...just throwing it out there!

See you guys out in the field...

Why meet at the arbys? people usually meet at the conico, Im not sure how the parking you are meeting at is with long term parking, there is a shoping center behind the stop light with a target and a bunch of other stores and that lot is huge and always open.

Any breakdown of what BDU colors are going to be used and who is on them?

Also, I may attend this event and bring several others with me pending confirmation from the organizers that correct law enforcement has been contacted and a green light has been given to play.  Im sure there are several people who would like to play but wont unless you can provide some type of assurance the game is being held legally.

We had picked the Arbys parking because it was a good central location.  I really was not expecting so many people so I was not thinking the parking was going to be an issue.  It is too late to change the place because I do not want there to be any confusion.  If there are too many we will move across the street and park there.  It will work, there is nothing to worry about.

As far as legal issues are concerned.  We have been playing at this area for about 2 years now and have never had any problems.  So do not worry it is a cool play to play (legally speaking).

I hope that clears any questions for now.  If you have anymore, just ask. See you on SATURDAY!

Thanks guys!

Not having any run-ins with law enforcement doesn't make it legal.  Nor does it mean anybody who is in charge of patrolling the area and carries a real gun has any idea who you are or what you are doing.  I wont attend this event it looks like.  I know you may think my position is unwarranted and alarmist.  Its just not worth it for some of us to risk it.  Not personally nor for the sport as a whole.

Stop worrying about the law and weather guys, most airsofters that have been doing it for a while play in multiple spots, half of those are probably illegal but the chances are extremely slim for us or anyone to run into something like that. If if rains, keep any wires or fuses from water getting inside, (you probably already new that im just clarifying to those that are scared or dont understand). Im more worried about my gun then getting my boots wet even if it downpoors. Come on out and have fun, its an epic spot ive been told by many people. Later guys.

I don't know how guys have been doing it lately but I know how it was done 6 or so years ago when AA first started planning games.  I think the biggest two things done were 1) contacting the law/governing authority/land owner for the geographic area that the game is being held in and verifying that the location has no restrictions on use (ie firearms, vehicles, etc) and 2) letting them or the police in that area know what we do, what it looks like, the exact area, etc so that if somebody is dispatched they know what to expect.

Im not sure if those interactions resulted in some sort of written agreement though.  Im sure the vast majority are verbal.  Best to take note of the names and numbers of the people you talk to when getting approval just in case you get harrassed.

Youre entitled to your opinion but you must realize that even in the absolute best case scenario youre still flirting with trouble.  Airsoft isnt a sport that will ever be able to handle much negative press.  It could take as little as ONE incident to cripple the growth of airsoft in our state and others.  Be smart guys.

Gentlemen-

I did not realize that this was going to cause such a debate.  I have been checking up on the spot we will be playing at.  I will have all of the information updated tomorrow afternoon.  Everything will be disclosed and the proper athorities will be contacted.  What I can tell you is the area is vast and it is public land according to the assessor's website.  I have never had to do this with airsoft, only film.  My background is mostly in procuring filming locations.

I do understand and appreciate the concern for the law.  I was not counting on there being so much interest on the forum as this was one of our first postings.

However, the bottom line is that I do not want there to be arguments taking place for this (and any other future games).  We all need to have concern for the law and for the our safety as well as for the safety of others.  There should be no debate on this point.  Rest assured that we will be playing this game on Saturday, whether it be held at OKC or perhaps Four Peaks (they are close to each other and Four Peaks is a popular airsoft location).

I will conduct this game in an appropriate manner.   So if you were planning on coming out to play- do so.  We have a good number of guys both exclusively from our group as well as from AA.

Lastly, I really do not want anymore arguing on this post.  We all like airsofting we all want to do our best for the game, so no more arguing.  Listen to digitydog, "settle down, everything will be fine."

I will post my findings tomorrow so stay tuned and get ready for the OP.

Joe

the wires will be fine, its the connections i would be woried about, I'd be most worried anout my hopup getting wet, that would really mess it up, but then again its not a very open spot.

Asking him to be smart is like asking the sun to be dark, its never going to happen.

Look through his post history, this kid is not the brightest bulb by any means. Some of us have tried to reason with him, but he is convinced that he knows better than a community of airsofters who've been doing this for a long time. With an attitude like his, would you really expect any of us who've dealt with him before to really have any sympathy for him?
Title: THE GAME IS LEGAL!!!!!! COME TO OPERATION: RH
Post by: 19dcav on March 04, 2009, 01:10:04 PM
OK guys-

THE GAME IS 100% LEGAL!!!!  WE ARE PLAYING IN LEGAL AREA!!!!

I contacted the Tonto Basin Ranger Station and discussed everything with them.  I talked with Susan (cannot post last name) and she along with others in the office found my inquiry slightly amusing.  Anyway, the same rules and restrictions apply here as at Four Peaks.  They now know and understand what we will be doing as well as what airsoft entails (they had no idea what airsoft was at first) and where we will be located.  So, all of you hesitant on coming out to play- you can now come out.  There is no written paper work for these events it is all indeed verbal.

Thank you for the questions and concerns.  We want to stay within the law.  You can PM me if there are any further questions.

Thanks guys.

See you all out in the field on Saturday!!

Title: Re: ***OPERATION: RED HAND*** March 7, 2009

As far as people go, we have about 16-17 guys from WARLORD AIRSOFT.  Ages range from 14- 41, with the median age being 24-25.  Some guys have had military experience and others do not.  In either case, everyone has gear and knows how to play.  As far as Airsoft Airzona players are concerned, if all of the guys that have said that they are coming do so, we should have another 10-15 guys.  I cannot confirm the exact number because I do not know them personally.  If it is not too much trouble, it would be nice if everyone who is coming for sure post it on this thread or PM me to let me know so I can give an exact answer.  Combined, we are looking at a ballpark figure of 25-30 guys roughly.

As far as teams break down, we would love to go green and tan (with ACU as green and Multicam tan), but I feel there is more to consider in team break down such as equipment and experience.  So I think we will go with some type of armband.  If anyone has an idea let me know.

The games will revolve around OPERATION RED HAND which I briefly explained earlier on in the thread.  If you guys have any suggestions let me know.

This is the biggest game I have planned to date.  Most have been half as big, so thank you very much for bearing with me. I appreciate the suggestions and will see you in the field on Saturday.

Joe

Just thought that I would clarify FPS limits and general rules.  We will be generally following the AA rules and guidelines for the game. I know the original limits and rules were confusing.

Sorry do not have a lot of time right now.  I will add more later.  Just let me know if you are coming out!

The Tonto Basin Ranger District is not the correct ranger district to speak with regarding airsoft unless you are playing on the North side of 4 Peaks.  Which would require about a 45 minute drive up the 143 road, or driving to Roosevelt Lake basin area.  Susan works the front desk at Roosevelt Lake.  Are you planning to carpool to Roosevelt Lake?  Mesa Ranger District is in charge of the area on the south side of 4 peaks.

I don't know who is organizing this game, but I PM'd the info from our Tonto National Forest Website which has a PDF file clearly showing the areas which are legal.   The area just past the OHV area on the 4 peaks road is also illegal if you look at the map link on the TNF website, all the way fromthe south side of FDR 143 Four Peaks to Cottonwood wash.

First of all:

The map which bigwavedave has kindly provided us with is totally usless (well not totally it outlines the areas South of where we will be and for that it is informative).  If I read the map correctly (which I know I did) we are playing more to the North, not much-but its north.  It IS in the Tonto Basin ranger district and it IS out of the firearm restricted areas, trust me I know I have been there and in some areas there are more shell casings than rocks.  I checked it out and I discussed it with Susan at length.  I told her exactly where we are playing and she confirmed that she knew EXACTLY where we are going to play.  Maybe its because I am a "Newbie" or something, and you think I am incompetent, but I know that I contacted the proper athorities for this event. I would appreciate it if you would PM me rather than post on this thread in the future.

Bottom line, if you are coming out to play- do so.  If not, don't. Simple.  I hate to be a dick but I believe that I have done everything I could to make this game legal and run smoothly.  I think that I have been a fairly nice guy so far on this forum (yeah I know I have not been on that long) but there are some guys out there who seem very negative and combative and determined to end this game, and for them.  Well, they can kiss my (  ).(  )  I understand concerns for safety and the law, but I think it is fairly evident that I am striving to take the proper steps neccesary to make this game work.

Again, PM me with further questions and concerns.  JUST post on this thread if you are attending the event.

We WILL see you in the field on SAT,

Joe

I think youve done a great job getting things together both legally and from an organizational standpoint.  I dont think anybody is complaining or trying to ruin anything for anyone.

Having said that I will most likely be attending with a total of 3-4 players.  This is pending as work may require me to travel this weekend to Oregon.  Otherwise, see you all on the field.

I have worked for the Tonto national forest for 19 years.  I posted the info that I've been able to come up with to help people who would like to organize future games and make sure they are legal. Not to discourage or negate your efforts.

Part of being legal is getting your facts straight.  Tonto Basin Ranger District is 18 miles North of SR-87 on a nasty bit of road.  If you are organizing an AO and tell folks they are playing on Tonto Basin Ranger District which is at the Saddle of 4 Peaks then that is relevant information to your game.  If you are playing on the Mesa Ranger District then please make efforts to contact their main office at 480-610-3300.

I'm glad you're doing something positive and working on getting a game together.  If anybody has questions related to FS laws/restrictions I will do my best to find out from the folks I work with.

Unfortunately, I myself can barely locate a half decent map for anything on the US Forest Service website.  I find most of their online maps vague and lacking, very frustrating.  Maybe I am looking in the wrong places online. I know the area is in the boarder region of those two districts but without an accurate map it makes things more difficult than they have to be. A man needs a good map, much better than this.  http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/tonto/contact/d ... .shtml#one (http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/tonto/contact/districts.shtml#one)

In short the location is North of all the firearm restrictions in the 4 peaks area and is on Tonto Forest Land. The district which the area resides in is hard to determine with the provided maps online.

Hey guys-

Thanks for the investigations and map links.  I have checked and rechecked our location via maps and reading the various rules and restrictions on multiple sites and I even had one of my guys (who has some legal knowledge from filming movies) dig up some info.  Our location checks out.  We can play there.  The area is up the 87, not on the 143.  The restrictions on firearms are a ways below that (like you said Mad Sarge).  I know what you are talking about, though, Mad Sarge. The map that lays out the various districts is very difficult to determine boundaries and such.  The people I talked with knew exactly where I ment.

Thanks for the map,

Looks like we are going to have a great turn out, too! The biggest game I have played in was one I set up for WARLORD at SASCO.  That was 18 people though, this game is almost twice that much (if we have 100% turnout)

Thank you to everyone who has helped me and given me info to get this game going.  Look forward to playing with you dudes in the future,

Joe

JUST FYI to any other OP planners..

if anybody is planning an OP and needs good maps, I have access to all our GIS data as I am a part time GIS data steward and civil eng. tech. Just shoot me a PM and I will do what I can to get something useable.  The reason the FS maps on the website are crappy is because they want to CHARGE you to go and buy a real FS map.  The special orders that are executed, such as Firearm restrictions are usually hand drawn on a FS map and exported to a .PDF.  You generally need a true FS map to be able to decipher the restrictions.

I am very excited for tomorrow!

But I am also a little nervous.  I hope I planned the games out well enough.  If anyone wants to suggest a game tomorrow at any point, go for it.  I would certainly welcome it.

It will be great to meet all you dudes tomorrow.  Looking forward to playing some good games.

See you at OPERATION: RED HAND Gents,

Joe

It was brought to my attention that I should have clarified that I was talking about the FPS rules when I said we will be following AA rules.  My bad.

Later guys,

About how far from the Arby's is the actual AO?  The distance will determine weather I show up or not.

We will keep the FPS rules simple. Try not to keep it under 375 with .25s (I think thats around 400-415 with .20s). Generally, we like to keep it in the 300's. I do know that the Echo 1 SCAR shoots above that out of the box. So if anyone uses that its ok, obviously. For snipers (which I do not know if we have any going) keep it around 450. They also cannot engage close targets, they can use a side arm, however.

But hey, its the night before. Do not sweat it, trust me. If your gun is stock out of the box, then it will be fine FOR SURE. Even, if there are minor upgades (like springs etc..) it will be fine.

Bottom line- bring your weapon and use it,

Later,

Joe

How bad is the travel from the arby's to the AO? since my wife was going to drop me off and pick me up after a bit, She has a car and If I need to leave before the game is over I want to make sure I can get picked up, and not have to hump it to the arby's.

hey guys,
Thanks for getting back with me on those emails, however, i am still missing a couple of guys out there: PETER - STAN - JAMES - KIETH and CHRIS.
Im hoping that these guys look at this forum(even though its been a week over) and decide to email me.
So far? we have just over 30 guys on the roster! and if most of you guys come each time we play? it will be a (blast) pund intended! LOL

if anyone knows who these guys are that are MIA? please contact them so i can finalize the roster and move on.
also, i am hooking up with Jason(the video guy) today and im hoping he has something for me to give to you guys to look at. I will also make copies of the whole operation,so if you would like to get a copy of it? please email me to my address and i can write you down for a copy... unfortunately, it will cost about $5 for each one, but at least YOU will be a star in this movie! LOL

L8r boyz..

good hunting

Why not just host it somewhere?

If all else fails I can pop it on my webserver.

I wish I had been able to make it :(

the video is roughly 30 - 45 minutes long and to tell you the truth? I dont know how I would be able to get this whole thing on the net. Im not that savvy with using pc.. Im a mac guy and my mac is out of date.
Its easier for me to just make copies for everyone(since thats what I do for a living)and make them look totally cool with a DVD case and artwork on the DVD itself. (Kinda like a memento to keep).
Its not that I am trying to make $ off of this, I am only charging what I use to make them. But if you have any ideas on how to get this on the net? let me know.
