Title: M1A1 Abrams
Post by: Sir Mister Sir on July 22, 2012, 10:43:26 AM
I posted a little about our airsoft tank awhile back.

We have made a few modifications since then.

I got the main gun to shoot Nerf footballs.

I added a vortex machine gun.

We took it out and tried  some milsim with it but it didn't work out too well. The players were mostly younger kids 13 yr or less and all they want to do is run and gun, which is understandable. I guess I need more mature players. Also it appears that we really need 2 tanks, if for nothing else some tank on tank battle. So we have started on a Tiger tank based on snowmobile tracks. I don't expect it to look as accurate as the Abrams but I'd like to finish it before my son gets to old to use it.

Here is a video we shot on the 4th of july. My son shot the video and it's a little shaky.

Let me be the first to say that, that is an awesome vehicle. That would looks like it would add some realism to any big Airsoft event. What is the ballpark figure to Buick one of those?

I think I said this before on the old thread but I love this. I have been wanting to make a tank since I was a kid and I think many airsofters need to take a hint and start building machines of war for their teams.

There are opportunities where a piece of armor could come in handy to break the deadlock in games. Realize, however, that when you play with mature airsofters you will face more anti-armor and with only one tank on the field, you will be a big magnate for it.

I hate you for having the funds, skills, and know-how to build something like this. I want one now. D:

But it would be awesome to see one of those rolling down the desert with infantry behind it?

Yep, with a loudspeaker on it blaring out Odd Ball's music from Kelly's Heros, awesome :)

Thanks.

Cost depends on how you do it. I probably spent around $2000 to build the Abrams but I had a lot of stuff on hand. (I took apart my kids Chinese 4 wheeler)

The Tiger I am trying to build with out spending near as much . So I'm scrounging stuff up. I got the 2 snowmobiles for free and I traded out some labor for the ridding lawn mower parts

Do either of these have a coaxial machine gun, either mounted currently or planned in the future? Because I could see that being an asset.

Did you end up using the Quick Exhaust Valve setup for the Cannon like I showed you on the last thread?

It's looking good man!

Thanks Dayton.

I tried that valve but I couldn't get the distance with the low air pressure I am using. I don't know why ? Longer barrel I guess. So I went with a 3/4" modified sprinkler valve.  It works but I'm still looking for something better. I did get one of those palmers stabilizers, it sure takes care of the air problem.

There is a vortex machine type gun mounted next to the main gun. But I'd like to get a SAW or something to mount on top.

Oh that is freaking cool! Is there a link to the previous thread or possibly more info on this? I'm interested in what makes that thing tick! Seriously awesome project.  ;D

You sir, are very creative to have built something like this, especially which functions so well. Add that SAW to the top for keeping infantry down during larger games, and you will be golden.

Hey Mace, remember that AR-15 spade grip (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/ARR-830) you were laughing at a few months ago? This is the perfect project for that item. Pintle mount an M4/M16 AEG on the top of the tank turret, load it with a 5000 round self-winding magazine, and slap that spade grip on it. In the end, it'd probably cost less than buying Crono's M2 off him and mounting that.

I see someone's been watching Dave's videos :D

You a member of the Scaled Tanks forum? I had plans on building an M3 Lee that could seat 2 but never got funds for the project...
