OP: Red Sleigh Down: Battlefield Wonderland
(http://www.msdenishia.com/TOYS_FOR_TOTS_logo_jpg.jpg)
TAC is proud to present the 8th annual Operation Red Sleigh Down on Saturday, December 8th 2012. Operation Red Sleigh Down is a benefit game that raises awareness about children in need this holiday season. Near the holiday season each year, we gather to play an organized airsoft event and fill a car with new unwrapped toys and then donate those toys to the USMC Toys For Tots program. Please consider coming out, helping those in need, and having a good time with us while you are at it.
To see what the community was able to donate last year as a group visit the below link:

Scenario:
The group know as the People's Occupation and Liberation Expedition (POLE) has sent a sizable group into Northern Tanistan in search of a downed supply plane. This supply plane was carrying support and relief supplies north for all the good girls and boys when it went down over a remote desert area.
Tanistan has search parties combing the crash area and attempting to secure the area and the supplies from POLE.
POLE and Tanistan forces now fight for control of the border area in a search for the missing supplies.
Admission
This event is by admission only. Your admission is unwrapped toys with an equal or greater value of $10. Cash donations are discouraged, but if you forget your items a suggested cash donation of $15 will allow the staff to purchase items in your behalf when dropping the donations off.

Special Note
Radios are not required for this event, but are HIGHLY recommended due to how the objectives are spread out and the play is fluid. Please also note this event is being planned as a MILSIM Battlefield type event with a fun twist. This means that we expect limited return trips to cars and staging areas. Please be prepared to carry everything on your person that you need to play and stay on your feed, including plenty of water and extra ammunition.

I think I am up to date with 34. Undecided bucket includes those who have not specified a uniform or are abile/willing to swap sides to even colors out. Keep those RSVP's coming, it really helps us to figure out how much non-playing admin staff we need to allocate to help things run smoothly.

last year it was a gift for a boy and one for a girl. how can we be sure that everyone isnt buying for just a boy or just a girl? shouldnt the gifts be leveled out so its all not for one gender?
It's boy OR girl. All the previous years we let those doing the donations decide and it has come out pretty even with just a minor lead by the boys. If we end up with any cash donations we usually purchase for the side with the deficit as well. Quite often we ask for 1 gift for a boy or girl and end up getting 1 for each though.
Hey Kiley, think youll get a chance to check the water level as the game gets closer?
Yeah I can probably get a eye on it the Thursday before the event.

RSVP list is now up to date with the latest information I have in both the AA and TAC threads as well as my PM box.
Important Clarification
At this time Multicam to Tan and ACU/ABU/ATAC map to green. If you signed up under a color with a different understanding of the mapping please let me know so we can get your name in the right silo.
We could use some more green players if people are still thinking of attending. We will shuffle the undecided players to even out the gaps where we can but if we have too large of a gap come game day we may have to make some trades to get it close.
I'll try to make it out to where Sasco Rd crosses the Santa Cruz and get a report on the water before the even and post it up. However, it is advised that you come in a vehicle that can cross the river or square your gear away in such a manner that you could hitch a ride from the river in case in it unexpectedly high (i.e. don't bring 5 Tupperware totes of spare parts).
Thanks for the support so far everyone, I'm getting really excited.
-
The only time ive crossed a river was in Oregon trail. (and they all turned out badly) Any tips on how much ground clearance the vehicle should have?
-

You're probably going to want something other then your camry.
-
I've crossed it in an 03 mustang before, however that was the lowest Ive ever seen the water. If you can see the road through the wash clearly then your probobly ok.
-
I've crossed it in small sedans and seen small sedans drown in it.
-
Totally depends on the water level of the Santa Cruz and wether or not the farmer upstream are irrigating fields. For stalker I saw a small car (like Geo Metro size) make it through with no issue but I've also killed a 4x4 size truck in it as well.
I'll get some info before the game and post it here but its important that everyone make an assessment for themselves when they arrive at the crossing point. If it looks too deep then park your car and hitch a ride or walk in (2 miles). If it looks ok then go slow, its much cheaper and easier for us to pull a stuck car out of the water then it is for you to gun it through and suck water into your engine. In that case we are pulling a dead car out of the water and your out the cost of a car.
-
Anyone carpooling from the valley can pick me up in chandler. i would really love too attend this game. also about the wash guys. it really depends on the depth. when i was there for the last red sleigh. it think it was up at 4 feet in the morning. but on the way back the Wash was really deep. Remember the guys Cars hydroplaning or something on the water then his engine went dead.
-
So will there be a caravan or something to help those of us with cars only cross the river?
-
2 from CT will be in attendance for sure, working on others. We can go green or tan, put us where you need us and we'll show up in the appropriate color
-
ill bring some wood, duct tape, bubblegum, and toothpicks, and make a McGyver bridge

I've not been to a TAC game yet and when I was reading the rules, and I came across this one:
14. "...When you are hit and rendered out, you are encouraged to act out a "realistic dramatic death" and then place the red rag over your head while lying down. ..."
Does/will everyone be doing this?

Abso-friggin-lutely! I was thinking of doing one of those old western deaths, where I just stand straight up and slowly fall over after being shot.

I certainly will. I think I'll do the spin around and fall from the old Westerns, like Shadow.

Depends on my mood and the situation but I often drag myself around on the ground 'wounded' yelping for a medic. Its often a nod to a good sportsman getting a solid kill on me, flow of game permitting of course.

Roster updated.
Current as of 12/03/12 at 20:14.
We are at 79 not counting staff. 32 Green to 33 Tan. We will see if any others RSVP in the next few days and then we will divide up the undecided players (mostly DH members) to keep the teams even. Truly appreciate everyone's willingness to help keep the roster tidy.
Remember, ACU maps to green and MC maps to Tan for this evolution. Please make sure to keep your uniforms the appropriate colors (tan all tan and green all green; no mixing) so we don't have any blue on blue confusion.
Radios are HIGHLY recommended. If you don't call in objectives you don't get points. Also, be sure to setup your gear and hydration so you can be in the field for prolonged periods. This will not be a situation where you can play for 30 minutes then go back to the cars to bullshit and reload. We will have a break but it will be after the evolution is complete and scores are being tallied.
Make sure you have reviewed the FPS limits, we will have several chronos setup to check people in. We would prefer to have it go quick and smooth and not have to send people back to swap out guns. We will also have admin staff not playing and checking weapons/responding to issues. Please show up to have a good time and don't game the rules or be poor sportsman. If that's your normal M.O., so us all a favor and bow out now.
Last but not least, I'll check the Santa Cruz later this week and get back with a status on whether it is unusually high/low.
Thank you all again for your support.
-
I'll be there +1 for green.
-
I think its really great that so many people have signed up of for this event that supports such a great cause, that I wanted to extend a free invitation to everyone who participates Operation Red Sleigh Down VIII to attend Rise of the Insurgents IV the following weekend (Dec. 16) for free.
If you are interested in attending the event, be sure to either sign up by posting on the AA topic for Rise of the Insurgents IV or posting on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com//#!/pages/Havoc-War-Games/249281991791406.

You don't have to be going through Mesa. If you have an extra seat let me know thanks.

The hill wont be in play, we will be at the alamo site, just east of the normal area.
Water was a little high. Trucks with clearance should be ok if they take it slow but I'd avoid low clearance or cars.

how deep is dose it get exactly. dose it move too fast for a human too wade through it with gear.
-
No it's about less than ankle deep in some spots. Water doesn't move that fast. On one part over to the right, the is a raised part that you can drive on. Kind of like a berm. It's not as deep though.
-

you shouldn't have to do that. i know more than a few AA'ers would be more than happy to ferry you across..
i would offer you a ride, but i'm carpooling myself..

GREEEEEN

I will no longer be attending.

Not to mention the hike to the AO after that creek. It's a pretty good distance from what I remember.
-
I think my +1 bailed but I'm still gonna try to make it, my car definitely won't make it across the river, can I park my car right before there or where should I leave it?
-
If my group does make it out, you can grab a ride with us. You can park your car back on the pavement way before the river and join someone.
-
park on the side and flag a truck down. you don't want to walk.. it's far
-
Well see how it these game turns out.. See you all there.

I slept through my alarm, hope everyone has fun!

I'm still at the field @_@

Honestly, that was THE most fun I've had airsofting. Ran out out ammo, then gas. Just plain tense and fun. Glad to see a great turn out. Any idea on how many toys got donated?
-
Any pictures?

I believe they got a whole truck-load full of stuff

I believe they got a whole truck-load full of stuff
Good job Guys and Gals!
-
Thank you everyone who made it out, your contributions make a real difference to the Toys For Tots program. Last year we collected enough toys for 3 grocey carts. This year you guys picked it up and filled 4 carts! The response the staff had was great, they pointed at a bin and say the toys for tots go there. When we explained we could not fit a truck full of toys in that tin they sent a guy out to help us load everything into the carts and put it in the employee area for sorting. The whole time they kept going on about how great it was to see such a large donation. We heard much if the same chatter from patrons who gathered around us to as we unloaded. It was pretty cool and its all because this is a great community.
I hope you all had a great time, we had a good time watching events develop and the action ebb and flow. At the end of Evolution 1 Tan was ahead with 34 points but green was not far being at 26 points since they held 11 of the 15 gifts. Going into Evolution 2 green was actually 2 1 or 2 points almost the entire evolution and then a series of massive tan counterattacks took all the spawn points ending the game 20 minutes early in tans favor and gaining them the points on all the gifts held at all the spawn points.
Biggest lesson our admin staffed learned was the we will never map ACU to green and MC to tan again. It was nice to be able to keep teams together and keep the Tan Vs Green even but it made it tougher then normal to IFF. We will also be more logical/careful about what flags go at what point on the field. It was fine after everyone oriented on the flag names vs positions but the first few minutes were rough for anyone who had played the even format with us before.
Thanks to all those to helped setup, chrono, direct, and staff. Both those who planned on helping (DH team members) and those who just decide to lend a hand last second. I wanted to also thank Tonk of 52 Zulu for the use of the flags.
As always we welcome your feedback. Feel free to post it here or send it in a PM to myself, ultimentra or cipherblue. Thanks once again and have a great weekend!

I have seen some floating around on facebook. I'll drop them a hint to put them on photobucket or something and share with the TAC and AA sites.

I agree. I do have to give tan props on that last ambush however.

I was also happy to see the tan suicide bomber playing his role haha

I dunno. Before that, when green flanked Charlie with an onslaught, I thought Tan was pretty much done because we were spread too thin.

I know what you mean. If green had pressed the wash, tan would have had to fall back to the sand hill.
It was all good fun, though. As I said before, the last stand at the Alamo was the kind of thing I got into airsoft for. Thanks again to everyone that put the game on. Hope to see y'all again in January.

The Last Stand at the Alamo was really something, loved that last big fight.

EDIT:
Video done..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4qyJAkzGQk
First clip was first few minutes of game. Second clip (longest part) was during a push towards northern most point which included myself and two friendlies.. we were outnumbered. Third was my attempt to prevent capture of southern most point in the wash, in which after i get hit, i ran back to alamo to give last stand at the alamo from tan's large push. Last clip shows the push on the alamo...
